Ganguly a great captain ?
by Sameer K on Apr 11, 2010 01:53 PM  | Hide replies

These bongs keep shouting how can we comment on Gangulys captaincy in IPL, and have we forgot how he lead India to WC final.

Let me clear these bongs doubt.

Ganguly opened in first 2 matches and we lost against australia after scoring 125 and crawled to victory against Netherlands. Media were asking Ganguly as why Sachin is not being sent to Open and he should go down and Ganguly argued with the media getting irritated, as why should i go down the order when i have scored most of my runs as a opener.

Ganguly did not know it seems that Sachin had scored more runs, more hundreds, with better average and strike rate even then in 2003 as compared to himself.

Anyways after that John Wright forced Ganguly to send Sachin as a opener and rest is history. Read Wrights biography where he wrote he took sachin for a stroll and asked him where he wanted to bat and Sachin said Opener. And Wright further added that Ganguly as unhappy but he forced him to send Sachin ahead.

Here was a man whose personal interests were coming before the team and he wasnt even scoring.

He scored 400 runs against Kenya and Namibia in WC 2003 in 3 matches and rest 9 matches he scored 92 runs averaging great less than 10 runs. So the world knows who took India to WC 2003 Finals.

Now the bongs will say, i m creating a fake story and John Wright is a liar !!!!

It is a nonsense logic.India was in pool A with Pakistan, Australia, England, nederlands,Zimbabwe & Namibia.Probably it is looking funny now as you are checking thru' site records and telling. In Super six Kenya Match India was 2-11 when ganguly came Sehwag and Tendulkar already back.It was a chase of 229 Runs.Kaif left at 3-24.Dravid at 4-104.He did his job of making the team win with Yuvraj being undetaen.Against Srilanka with Sachin put up a 100 Run Stand in 2nd wicket to put up a mammoth total of 292.Then Srinath-Nehra killed Lanka in 23 Overs. With New Zealand Srinath -Zaheer bundled them within 150.Kaif & Dravid saved after failure of top order 3-21.The Kenya Match was Semi-Final and Ganguly and Sachin played well with a 111.Zaheer,Srinath Nehra fired and tendulkar broke partnership of Tikolo. Then our bowling was beaten for the 1st time in the tournament and we lost it. Since 1998,India was opening with left right combination.Inclusion of Sehwag was the reason for discussion whether for RH-RH or LH-RH combination. In 2003 where Ganguly's public argument was there for himself,I have not seen. But India has tried earlier to do that with Vinod kambli as a LH opener during Azharuddins time which was criticised. Now also Gautam Gambhir opens for India with LH-RH. Please donot distort facts for settling personal problems.

Uthappa would have been selected as reserve keeper for T20
by vadivel kumar on Apr 11, 2010 01:26 PM  | Hide replies

Uthappa would have been selected as reserve keeper instead of Dinesh Karthik.Uthappa is a big hitter and better finisher then Dinesh karthik. He can also keep wickets when required

sachin??he didn't get selection that's why he refused to play now..instead of dhoni, we could have selected uthappa, karthik is better player
NB: I know reply wil be like this, dhoni is ever best batsman and captian, he won world cup, next 100 year we can repeat same.

agree fully. In place of Dhoni we can have Sehwag as the captain. But this is a huge variation and it will be very difficult to justify his exclusion given his record as captain. He really does not add much value with his batting against quality pitches and good bowling attacks.

Root cause Analysis by an Anapadh
by surya das on Apr 11, 2010 01:09 PM  | Hide replies

There were 5 major drawbacks in KKR's strategy:

1. First and foremost why Ganguly is coming as an Opener? If we talk abt IPL 3, he has scored runs, but strike rate is merely 112 to 115%, which is average in T20 games, and worst part is, he is spoiling the first 6 Overs fielding restricition, where a player like Macllum could ve been explored very well like how Gayle does. (Remember Macllum is opening the innings in T20 game for NZ, and is very successful). Ganguly can come after 6 overs, and can score run and ball as he does every time.
2. Why Cheteswar Pujara position changed down further and send Saha (wk) who is neither a good hitter nor a great batsman either. Simply wasted talent of Pujara.
3. Why Ishant Sharma playing in this format of the game, where is a complete failure, and everytime he comes and opposition scored heavily against him. If he can not learn from a legend bowler, then he should be dorpped immediately, you can see Dhinda who has changed his line and length, and trying hard to learn every game.
4. It is management fault or may be Captain's fault since IPL 1, that they dont ve a single Indian player who is a real hard hitter like every other teams they have. U should understand it's Indian players who will play major roles (as 7 players must be Indian), when u don't ve any Indian player (except Pujara).Tiwary comes and playes once a good innings, and rest games he flops.
5. Coach and captain strategies were wrong to drop Bond.

1.Seperate his strike rates as opener and middle order in this tournament and then you will withdraw the suggestion. As an opener his strike rate is above 130 here. KKR played first 3 matches with Brad Hodge & Tiwary as opener.
2.Cheteswar Pujara thrice has got the chance to save the innings. He was never close to a Naman Ojha or Saurabh Tiwray. He can hit and in form so sent in lower order.
3.Till recent past he was a regular player of India. Who was knowing that he will be ranked 25th bowler in the tournament among 32 specialist bowlers.
4.KKR is mostly playing with 1 Foreign Bowler and 3 Foreign Batsman.Mandeep Singh-VC of Under 19 India(Team mate of Virat Kohli) twice flopped. Badluck again.
5. Bond played 6 matches with a economy of 7 . Best is 2-32.He has not done well yet in slow turners. turners.

Ganguly is good as he perfomed when others don't.
Ishant selection is a mistake and they need to select good Indian batsman as you can most of the batting contribution came from foreign players other than Ganguly.
Bettter to drop Mathews and fill it with David Hussey

yeah partially true, but gayle is there, so one player canbe in anchor role, ganguly playing well, but he is not getting timing as he used be.anyway maculam is not in his form , don't think better than ganguly in this situation.

And forgot to add one thing, it is right and left hand combination who creates problem for the bowlers. So, Mcllum and Gayle be an ideal option, Ganguly should come first down.

When you open with an foreign player obviously opponents will open bowling with spinner. You need to tackle that here.

What is Wasim Akram Doing. Can hardly remember in the last match , if any one of the KKR bowlers' has bowled yokers, bouncers and slow deliveries. Akram is just a waste of time and money, throw him out.

Wasim Akram is a mentor for this team not a bowling coach. He cannot go and bowl in the game as he can only instruct them to do.If the bowlers won't do that he should not be blamed

I think so. Otherwise why all of a sudden the people start throwing their wickets and bowl in a reckless manner. This is happening almost with most of the teams.

Disappointed MI fan
by Mash on Apr 11, 2010 12:41 PM  | Hide replies

I m really disappointed with the MI's flop show in last two games. Even after having so much talent & after almost sealing a place in semis can't understand why this team is looking under pressure. In last game against Punjab, Sachin & Raidu wasted 8 consecutive balls without run & that too inside powerplay overs. Had they scored atleast 15 runs in those 8 balls result could have been diffrent. MIhave to improve on this otherwise it will be repeat of first IPL season.

Hmmm. May be you have a point about getting the selection right. However, I see you are a regional crapper that tries to label people as this and that!

No marks for that!
No one wants to listen to you!

You r the biggest moron in this earth. ICC won't wait until u finish IPL and select players. First learn some basic things about Cricket before vomiting here.

Selectors can't select 30 persons and they never ever going to to satisfy 110 cr people.

They Picked squad is Good One. No Blemish.

You seems to be a regional fanatic. how many matches Vijay played for India and compare with Robin.

Tell me Apart from Bangalore where he played well???? Rohit is played twice well but unable to Complete his job due to the support is not came from the other End.

Sorry to Say, He never play well if you given a Chance, he is just another Yusuf Pathan, play well only in IPL. It's truth.

Tell me one match where he played well?????

He is out of colour in IPL 2 in SA.

He never going to be a International Player like Yusuf.

Suman also out played Uthappa there.

ey????? Remember that Vijay is among the top 5 of the highest run getters and the highest strike rate among the top 5 and also scored the highest individual score in the IPL.
He have played well in all the oppurtunities he got to play for India in tests.
Badri also scored a maiden test fifty in his first match against SA.So,They deserve a chance .
Don\\\\\\\'t blame Kris Srirkanath and he is not biased to region.
Remember more players who came under regional quota and when there were stupid selectors disappeared in a game or two eg.Dodda Ganesh,Sujith somsunder,Jacob Martin,SAmir Dighe,Tinu Yohanan,Ajay Rathra,Vikram Rathore.
But Under Vengarkar/Srikanth the selection commitee is doing well and everybody new player selected have done a bit to get notified in the international arena..RP Singh,Ishant,Rohit Sharma,Ojha.............
