Cricket is known to be gentlmen's game bcoz of people like Shep. He used to be star attraction even though he was only an umpire but people loved him. May his soul rest in peace.
The Late Mr. David Shepherd was in a league of his own.Along with Md.Dickie Bird, he was one of the best umpires. He was always cool and never showed any irritation against aggressive appealing by the players. He was known for his fairness, integrity, efficiency and a desire to give the best. If and when he made a mistake, he would take it to heart and apologised to the affected player.
Umpires like the old Steve Bucknor, Darryll air and others have a lot to learn from Shep.
We missed him when he retired and we shall miss him more when he is no more. Just like we miss any great crickter after he has departed from active cricket, we miss the great Mr. Shepherd in umpiring. The British Govt should knoght him for his contrubution to cricket and make him a Sir.
I pass my condolences to his family and pray to God that May his good soul rest in heavenly peace.
We lost a great cricketing personality.A great loss to the game.He was always cool ,quite and calm and in full control on the field.Respected by one and all associated with the game of cricket. He will be in our hearts forever. May god his soul rest in peace.
Cricket is a great game and an unifying factor and this is truely evident from the overwhelming sentiments and sypathies conveyed by people from all over the world on the demise of not a great cricketer, but,a cricket umpire-an umpiring GREAT,indeed.
