Match was lost as Viru departs early
by rohan kumar on Oct 25, 2009 10:37 PM  | Hide replies

to chase score close to 300 runs is always difficult. As Yuvi not fit someone up the order needed to play fast inning to maintain the RR. Viru departed early and sachin was not able to play fast, pressure came to Gambhir and before he could settled sachin & powerplay both are over. Virat is good player but not strokeplayer as Raina or Yuvi and to maintain righthand lefthand combination Virat got chance before Raina. Gambhir and Virat made a good partnership but at slow strike rate. RRR mounted up and india needed heroic effort by someone and that couldn't happened . Result India lost the match. In my view Viru and Gambhir should open the inning( as Gambhir & Viru opening pair is the best in current time) to take the advantage of powerpaly. To chasing high scoring match RRR should be maintained from the start of match. Because it is always difficult for batsman coming down the order to settle if RRR is high. And probabilty of wining such match is very less.

So if Gambhir opened with Sehwag, then Sehwag wouldn't have lost his wicket?..... :)

Curious reasoning... :)

Vinay is saying that Dhoni was already back in the pavilion by the time we lost 7 wickets. . .

And his contribution was nothing worth writing home about....

I think he has thought quite well before writing... But I can't see what YOU are complaining about... :)

praveen n bhajji
by vinay on Oct 25, 2009 10:25 PM  | Hide replies

although praveen n bhajji played well with the bat, both needs to b dropped for their failure in bowling.

atleast, praveen proved that he can also bat a little. while in A tours, he used to open the batting, n in intnl matches, his bating records sound just better than munafs n nehras.

Because of Dhoni they r in the team and getting rotated. They cannot play more than 7 overs in a mtch after that they will give the gifts to the opponents.

Rohit,
My point is Dhoni promotes himself up the order and takes forever to setle himself. Even after he is settled, he expects new batsman to start slogging while he keeps his end up.

You can even see in this match. Dhoni was settled and India needed 120 oidd runs in 15 overs. Raina just came to cris in Powerplay and Rains had to go slog because Dhoni was just trying to rotate strike. I don't really blame Raina for loosing his wicket.

See Dhoni is playing like Dravid, no team cannot afford two Dravids. What Kohli did u have seen. What is the guarantee that raina would have won match for us. Even he plays
rash shot in a innings. You cant say he is new in this team.

I think Dhoni is playing Selfish and Dravid was playing Sefless. Given a choice, I will take Drvaid over Dhoni in this team

Kohli is young and bit arrogant, but I do think Raina is class. He is young and he has played many rash shots and many others established cricketers do the same..

There is no guarantee in Cricket. The best one can do is plan it well and execute and hope for the best..

its a good begining though India lost the match, but lost it after a strong battle...unlike those days when sachin's wicket falls, rest of the wickets fall as nine pins... today the tail wagged to such an extent that it will make Aussies re-think their strategies. Hope India learns its lessons from this encounter to put up a better performance in the rest of the matches and emerge as a winner!! 3 cheers to the indian team...

Do u say same thing abt hockey, football, tennis, kabbadi, etc "our team ". Why? because in cricket u understand potential of each player. So u need to understand the potential of our cricket team which is too low from Aussies.
What u r saying is height of hopelessness.

If only 20 runs needed in 18 balls by Harbhajan or Praveen kumar, i'm sure they couldn't did it.
