So it's ridiculous to think Sachin is the greatest sportsperson in Asia. He isn't even the best cricketer around. He has been or was a fantastic ODI player. Dravid is a greater batsman in test cricket. Adam Gilchrist was far more destructive than Sachin ever will be.

Dhyan Chand was and is the greatest ever sports person india has ever produced. There have never been any comparisons drawn between him and any other Hockey player before or after his time.

Thanks for accepting Sachin "the greatest indian cricketer" buy not a greatest sportsperson? He has inspired youth, he is modest even after playing for 20 years, never been in a issue! What else mate?
tendulkr is not greatest...he is lucky...dat he is able 2 improve his record against certain teams afetr on battign pitches ater retirement of der great bolwlers..
I mean come on folks - no need to say anything negative about him. So he lost as a youngster to Kasparov... but Kasparov lost to Kramnik and Vishy beat Kramnik. Anyway they are all World Champions!!
In all sports there are certain players whom people crave to watch or people stop what they are doing to watch. Just one look and people know they are seeing something special.
Some examples A Mohammad Ali or a young Mike Tyson in the ring A Pele or a Diego Maradona or a Zidane in the soccer field A Michael Jordan on the basketball court A Usain Bolt on the track field
India does have a few like this - I do not know about the hockey greats - but Sachin can certainly hold the attention of the crowd in cricket.
Somebody who has given his soul, his best part of life for cricket...and even after 20 years of service, he still have to prove himself again and again...which is utter rediculous.
