we go on and on abt individual achievements , functions, felicitations, books, seminars, interviews.. even now we celebrate world cup win anniversary .. let us move on and win it in current era.. if australia celebrated each achievement of ponting or each of their world cup wins.. they would keep celebrating forever and not win anything. they just win and get over with it..with each new goal not carrying baggage of the past

well.. it makes no difference if no one goes down memory lane.. but the prob is we go down that lane too often.. but we're obssessed with it.. but ultimately.. in cricket.. no matter how great an individual is..he cannot be above the team's record.. which in our case isn't gr8..compared to all the attention

absolutely, so let's start the hunt for the players so that we can have a cricket TEAM. which can pick up where others leave, instead of dropping the matches immediately after their hero falls.

AB devilers of SA is the best batter now in world. he plays strokes soo freely and keep good strike rates , hit big sixes and find gaps easly. i think its time to AB to take over world no.1 batting slot. also when ever he scores 50 SA win that match . also he is the fittest man in crikcet world, and run like a horse . also a great feilder

Don't compare Devilliers with mr. god of Indian cricket. Devilliers may be a better player but Sachin is god no matter what. Give a bow!

Probably the fastest bowller India has ever got. I loved his yorkers nd yes, he had a superb action. But pity that he achieved so less in test cricket and ODIs.

Rakesh bhai. Did you know there was a certain man called Kapil Dev Nikhunj who used to bowl (and he broke Sir Richard Hadlee's record also at that time by picking 434 wickets in Tests and that he was the fastest bowler for India. Did you know Kapil also helped India win World Cup with his unbeaten 175 runs against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells when India were reeling at some 50 odd runs for loss of some 5 wickets. That win only helped India reach as far as the Finals and later on topple favourites West Indies to win the 1st and only World Cup (1983 WC) for India till date.
You think Manoj was better than Kapil and you call him fastest India had got ? hmmmmmm strange. How about Javagal Srinath who served India loyally so much that his arm only got strained and injured ?
Re: Re: Manoj Prabkhar
by Rakesh Shankar on Nov 13, 2009 12:07 PM
Ganeshji..I never called him the best bowller, I agree that Kapil was better nd I feel Kumble was the best bowller India ever got. Nd regarding Srinath, Zaheer in his older time was faster than Srinath. nd in manojs time we did not had the speed machine to measure the speed.
Wisden's book of cricket rates Brian Lara a better and competetive crickter. No doubt that Sachin's records are better but Lara has more than 60 percent knocks which won the match for West Indies. But most of the times when Sachin hits a ton we lose the game including the latest one dayer at Hyderabad against Australia. Sachin plays for his own records not for the country,

A true legend, a man, a gentleman and a very courteous human being too.Very Hard working and born as a WINNER.Unless we r not up to his level nobody have the privilege to criticise him!!

Hey come on now ! He need not have got out at 175 . He simply wanted runs on the board for the team. Give the little master the credit he is entitle to. Though India lost the message to the opposition was loud and Clear. Even 350 is not 100% safe with sachin around. People like you talk through your hat. He does so with his bat.

hi kumar, a man who is not ambitious is not a man. Unless you learn to create record you cant build your career. The tragedy that strikes indian cricket time and again is whenever sachin strikes other players fail - this happened at chepauk and now at hyderabad. Despite Sachin's efforts and his centuries not resulting in an Indian win - sachin bashers like kumar should know that cricket is 11 men game and every one is expected to contribute at least something. three batsmen could not manage in the end just 3 runs at hyderabad - 50 percent of such a huge target scored by a 36 year old legend and the so called young bloods could not manage the remaining 50% is a shame on others and sachin cannot be blamed. Someone who maintains a stricke rate of over 80 in onedayers for 2 decades and even in test matches sachin is not the guy to waste the balls and always ensure scoreboard ticking - cannot be a selfish player by any standard. People like Kumar criticising sachin just becoz - of their own failure in personal and official career. Modern youth should not be misled by guys like kumar - they should learn from little legend - how to be committed, build a career, achieve success and stay there for long and be consistent and not get provoked by criticism. Sachin never respond to his critics by words and his willow responds. But let us condone the guys like kumar who hate sachin - bcoz only when sachin is criticised - he is proving a point time and again - in that way we shud pardon his critics - as we have a chance to witness the legend's batting for an year or two. One last question - has Kumar ever worried about his own record in official life or personal life - records also is possible only if one is talented and committed.

Sachin has his own class. He is a greek good in cricket. Nobody can match up to his class. Even in terms of fitness, players like dravid, munaf, nehra, sreesanth lack the fitness which 10dulkar has. He is just marvellous and maintained himself to keep up with the pace of game. Hats off to him
Re: Lara a better cricketer
by Mr Infinity on Nov 13, 2009 11:54 AM
Most of the matches that WIndies won was because of their bowlers. and as far as percentage of contribution in Wins for team, Sachin still comes in top 5 list and at top for India. Use cricket stats or at least cricinfo to correct your misconceptions.

We indians or just worried about records and not about the team winning. It is pathetic to see so much idolising of individual performances when the team does not win in a game played by just 8 countries. The deeds of even our Hockey players like Dhanraj Pillay is much more than Sachin ,leave alone the true sporting greats like Anand, Paes, Bindra, Saina and others. As long as Indians worship cricket and those non performing players Indian sports is doomed.
Re: Re: Re: Lara a better cricketer
by Balaji Krishnamurthy on Nov 14, 2009 09:59 PM
Let us apply the same criterion for Dhanraj Pillai as for Sachin. What did Indian hockey achieve in his time? Nothing much, except for the 1998 Asiad. Paes was not able to prevent India's Davis Cup relegation. Abhinav Bindra had a crorepati father to support the expensive sport he played(BTW I am not putting down his achievement). Tendulkar definitely belongs to the pantheon of great Indian sportsmen. Don't keep blaming cricket for everything. We don't have a sporting culture. This is why Indian sport is doomed. Cricket is not to blame.
the reason why Sachin has stayed at the pinnacle of his career for son long is because of his simplicity. He hasn't allowed success to go into his head...The young breed of cricketers should also pick up this trait of his apart from his glorious strokes...Wishing Sachin all the best!
