Dhoni Talent
by shahlal zafar on Nov 01, 2009 10:09 PM  | Hide replies

Bihar has always produced good leaders and Dhoni is the live example. This backward state has produced so many talents in the form of Syed Saba Karim, Kriti Azad, Subroto Banarjee and so on but they failed to establish because could not get the opportunity on right time. This is the right time of indian cricket where they have really tasted the flavour of Win. This is the alround team performance and we cannot give the whole credit to Dhoni but his leadership cannot be ignored. India never get a team like this before and hopefully if we beat aussie in ongoing series then we will certainly ge crowned as a top rank team first time criketing history

Mohali better win
by krishna sumanth on Nov 01, 2009 10:05 PM  | Hide replies

India should better win in Mohali, as they are not going to win in the following game in Hyd - no host team won a game yet in Hyd, including the Chargers (there could be a game or two in the Ranji level)

See what Ponting said:-
"It was a difficult wicket, but it was the same for both teams. We just were not good enough today."

haha.. Right.
Ponting never slammed the pitch as there was nothing to slam as it had some more juice for Bowlers. A real good pitch indeed

Cricket shouldn't be Racist against bowlers
by George Varghese on Nov 01, 2009 09:15 PM  | Hide replies

I will never understand why a low scoring pitch is criticized by all and sundry. It is such pitches that bring out the most exciting matches. Who can forget the 1999 World cup Semi final Aus - SA, or the recent Aus - Pak match in the Champions trophy this year. All captains seem to think that only a high scoring match can be an interesting one. Such a pitch brings out the best in the batsman. It showed the difference between getting the basics of batting right which is what Yuvraj, Dhoni and Sachin to some extent did and sloggers like Sehwag whom we idolise didn't. It was very disciplined batting by the Indians. Congratulations to them. And I hope they don't whine if they lose a match on a pitch like this.

How can a high scoring match on a pitch which gradually deteriorates be interesting. How often have we seen boring matches in which the team batting 1'st piles on 300 because the hapless bowlers just don't have the element of turn/swing to assist them. and the hapless one batting 2'nd crumbles due to mere target pressure and loses almost all wickets under 200. And then some so called experts attribute it to the greatness of the team batting 1'st.

A low scoring pitch is as good as any other. A Cricket match wasn't meant for some players to make records on high scoring pitches. It is meant to be won under whatever be the situation.

Good long windy analysis. But if you had only read the article in addition to the headline, you'd have realised that there wasn't any criticism of the pitch by Ponting.
If anyone has criticised the pitch, it is Rediff, through their extreme headline writing.

My criticism of Ponting is only as explicit as his criticism of the pitch. Read between the lines "couldn't get worse etc". Niether have I mentioned 'Ponting' or 'Ricky' anywhere in the comment. It is a general criticism of attitude of most captains today, ex players and so called experts.

Where did you pick up the "couldn't get worse"?

He said "..probably slightly worse.."

He also conceded that it was the same for both teams and that Australia wasn't good enough...

Otherwise, I agree with your take on the general criticism of most captains, experts etc.

Hey George, Wonderful analysiss by you. Completely agree with your points. Low scoring pich are diffrent than bad pitches. One should play on all kinds of piches to prove their batting superiority rather than playing only on good scoring pitches.

We need more wickets like Kotla
by Lotiya Pathan on Nov 01, 2009 09:14 PM  | Hide replies

It was a sporting wicket to say the least. It helped Bowlers for a change and forced batsman to put in some real efforts and demonstrate solid skill.

Such pitches make the game more challenging by bringing bowlers advantage in the game. Aussis scored 230 runs in 50 overs, a fairly decent score!

we need more wickets like the one in Nagpur which had good bounce and carry. Even though india scored 350 , it was more due to poor aussie bowling and brilliant dhoni and raina batting. Australia scored only 255. we need such wickets to have good entertainment as well as fair chances to both teams.

This man is the biggest Whinger. Usually cheaters are the big whingers, and it fit best to Ponting. There isn't single series where you haven't heard Ponting complaining. Even during the Ashes, he was whinging and english public booed him righly through out the series..
