Fragile top order, good for Dhoni
by Devils Advocate on Nov 02, 2009 09:08 AM  | Hide replies

D. Karthik is one name Indian team would want to forget soon. Such a flumboyant player is rare and a total misfit in the team after some likes of K. More and C.Pandit who flopped. After seeing the Aussie wicket keeper fumbling behind the wicket at Kotla , one can imagine how would have DK performed spectacular dance , if he was asked to keep the wickets there. His foot work in batting also is so entertaining to watch as he performs same 'bharathanatyam' as he does behind the wickets. Why not this slot be filled with some one who can be groomed for future in the opening? With Shewag and Gambhir ruled out ( may be the extent of inljury is less, but they wouldn't take a chance with Dhoni this time ) and Tendulkar out of sorts, Dhoni has all reasons to promote himself and anchor the innings. I don't think the top order (first 3 batsmen) will put more than 60-70 together. Even if they do, it will be like a test match and even this average australian attack would like very challenging. Perfect stage for Dhoni to play long innings and keep up his rank.

Wrong... AGRAKAR has won so many matches one day and tests for INDIA.
KAIF has played very well and won us NATWEST trophy...KARTIK palyed well in so many matches and scored crucial sixes and boundaries. But we all use them in inappropriate slots and see that they fail.

u dumbo.karthik has always played well when ever hew got the opportunity.he played well in england, pak and recent WI series.he performed very well in IPL and even in the champions league he hit 3 consecutive sixes.he takes time to settle but once he gets settled even dhoni cant match him.even NSW is going to hire him.

Kaif was one batsman who was selected when he was not in form, not selected when he was in form. Agarkar, fastest bowler to get 50 wickets in a ODI,the record still exists. The administration lost confidence in him when he didnt play well in some matches and after some time, they totally forgot him. He was one talent who was not groomed propely by BCCI. Karthik ,such a good talent, only problem he is playing in a era where there is far greater talent ,Dhoni. Karthink when given the responisiblity has done great job,in England for example. For his responsible & consistent performance ,he has been approached by NSW blues to represent in the upcoming Domestic event. Why do NSW approach him,if they dont see a talent in him. Comeon ,mumbai, wake up.

high time to stop giving push to laggards like kartik...even kohli is not worth of getting in team...it would be better if they recalled yusuf pathan...at least pathan will score once in 10 innings...but virat and kartik will neither score runs but will also drop catches.... high time for shrikant to call it a day from office of chief selector

WHY? u want again India to lose even to bangladesh in the preliminary round itself? The current team of selectors are doing much better...They could safely ease out GANGULY and DRAVID...They are giving opportunities to emerging players...all going well.

1 guy as a cover for 2 injured players how does come that compensate/workout even
why don't they call somebody like Manish Pandey (who scored @ a brisk paceAvg 30S/R130) ask him to play like a T20 don't worry about the consequences

Dinesh Karthik could be a replacement for V. Kohli also as backup keeper to play @ no.6/7 since he's not good/explosive in opening which is needed when playing against AUS plays middle overs well as v all saw in IPL&ChampsLeag
1 G Gambhir/M Pandey
2 S Tendulkar
3 S Raina
4 Yuvraj Singh
5 V Sehwag/R Sharma(when Sehwag is Injured)
6 MS Dhoni*(wk)
7 D Karthik/V Kohli/R Jadeja/R Uthappa
8 Harbhajan Singh
9 P Kumar/M Patel/I Pathan
10A Nehra/Z Khan
11I Sharma

karthik is much mature player and he plays according to the situation... past records dont mean anything and sachin's present record in the series wont be same as his previous.. present form is what matters and moreover there is no w/c apart from dhoni in the team...

Just becuase Pandey scored a hundred in IPL doesnt make him to qualify for the ODI. He was dropped 3 times in that century. It is more of a stupidity from opposition that he got his century. There are far better talents in India than him. One example is Abhinav Mukund,19 year old, TN opening batsman, who has AVERAGE 58.85 scoring 1518 runs in 17 first class matches. He scored a unbeaten century in challenger trophy and one of the youngest player to score a triple century in a Ranji game. Talk about avaerages, talk about this.Pandey, a paltry average of 27 ,scoring a total of 195 runs in 5 first class games. Compare yourself, who has to get the nod.

I have no issue with Pujara as well. Pujara is one of the upcoming batsman, unfortunately he got injured when he could have got selected. I gave this reply just to prove a point to Indian. Pujara, Badrinath are some of the consistent performers in domestic cricket.

Having said that in current India ODI of 15, there are 6 players from Delhi. Does it says there is partiality in selection. It just says if you are good enough, you can be in XV. Please put a stop to this kind of argument. If that is the case with selectors Badrinath would have been in Indian test team the first day Srikanth became the chairman of selectors. I dare say that Badrinath deserves a place in Indian Test XI & a ideal person who can take up Dravid's Role in future.

Well done Shrikanth bringing Tamil nadu player again-
Why dont you give chance to new players-
1) Manish Pandey who scored century in IPL
2) Why not try with Rahul Dravid again for temporary time pass service
3) Why not give chance to bring a very young player of 16 years who can get good experience on the home soil???

Well done srikanth for not bringing a tamil nadu player Badrinath during the Australia test series and giving a good exit to Saurav Ganguly. Well done Srikanth for not bringing Badrinath again for England series and instead got Yuvi back.

Pathan u dont have any sense.
