Rohit Sharma is a solid contender for either one down or two down in both Tests and ODIs. However Dhoni is spoiling his talent sending him at no 6 or 7. He has the potential that required for those slots (one down or two down, I’d say one down). He’s technically solid like Sachin and Dravid. But Dhoni has other ideas! He’s just wasting his talent sending him so late for batting.

How many chances do you want to give Rohit Sharma in International Cricket? He is fit for domestic cricket not for international cricket.

Raina is performing exceptionally well. Which captain wants to replace him to experiment with some one else.

Not I but I think you have tasted his! How's that? Deepak, he may have given chances but at wrong place. As I said he's the best choise for no 3 or 4, and don't forget Raina, Yuvi have got more chances than Rohit.

Hi Sagar..if hard hitting shows the true talent that Yusuf is much better than all! ;)

All Indian batsmen other than openers should bat at no. 3 ... Dhoni, Raina, Yuvraj, Rohit, Yusuf, Irfan ... we are wasting their talent.
Re: Re: Re: Re: A solid contender
by naveen dhanerwal on May 12, 2009 01:14 PM
LOL..Bipul, unfortunately we cann't send so as many batsmen at a single time but we have to choose one the best in them. No 3 position is the most crucial no in ODIs and especially in tests that needs patience and none above them has that much patience except Rohit. You see he'll bat at no 3 in tests very soon and ODI's too.
Play one match and we praise him as the saviour of Indian cricket. It was Irfan, then Raina the other day and Uthappa later (and few more in between) and now Rohit. They are playing T20 matches and that's not what fetch India glories in cricketing field. He was miserable in Onedayers and not yet considered for test matches. Come on guys.. way to go. He is a talent no doubt but way to go .. way way to go.. T20 does not produce any real cricketing talent and that's for sure.

Hi Vinod, neither Sachin nor Ponting were supereb when they started thier career. Rohit has the pontantial of becoming a great batsman. He's techanically solid and aggressive batsman. I think he's not used well in batting order. He's like a batsman who takes his time first then attacks. He's the best choise for 3rd or 4th slot for India and not only me but many great batsman has said that! Mark my word..he'll become a great bastman in future..he's just 22 and age is with him.
Re: Re: Rohit
by rajoo iyer on May 12, 2009 11:43 AM
wash ur mouth naveen dhanerwal - i dont know abt ponting. But Sachin started his career with a bang - hitting 27 runs in one over at Karachi against the then world's best off spinner - Abdul Quader. He was also the youngest Indian to score a century in all forms of cricket. Sachin is born genius and he was more consistent and aggressive before he was made a captain. Rarely he allowed himself a bad patch to affect his career continuously. Rohit is no doubt - a promising young guy - but what is important is you need to stand tall and stay there - so let us wish him good luck and we Indians would love to see another Indian only surpass the little genius Sachin. While praising Rahit - dont try to discredit the little genius - who enthrolled the Indian cricket fans for over 2 decades.

LOL...Rajoo, I don't need to wash my mouth now, beause I do this very first after geeting up in the morning. Dude, I didn't say Rohit is better than him. I'm a big fan of Tendulker and only watch matches when he's playing. I only say he's the best choise when Sachin retires.

Naveen Dhanerwal - My apologies to you for being a bit harsh in my response. Over the years I observe a handful of disgruntled guys throw venom on Sachin while billions across the globe adore him. At the age of 20 Sachin had to play under the pressure of expections from a billion people when the team was solely depended on his form. I dont think any cricketer in the history had such a pressure at such a young agen that Sachin faced. Now we have a strong batting and bowling line up and certainly Rohit is well poised to bat freely without any pressure at 22 unlike the condition when Sachin was 20. Rohit also should take Sachin as an object lesson to be humble and modest off the field also.

LOL, Rajoo, I don't need to wash my mouth at this time because I do this very first after getting up. I didn't discredit Sachi and I'm also a bog fan of him. You won't believe I only watch matches when he's playing. But he had a slow start in international career. Yes, He made progress rather fast later.

Hey Buddy, Rohit got so many chances check out your Databases..He played one down also.. If he send for one down what is the order of yuvraj, raina, yousuf(in last year IPL he clicked at 3 spot),Dhoni. Simply performing in IPL is not suficient.
Re: Re: Rohit
by Truly Indian on May 12, 2009 12:24 PM
What you should remember is a player has to play for his team and should be able to mould himself according to the team requirements. If Rohit can only play at no.- 3 or 4, then he is not fit to be in a team. I find it funny that somebody who is technically so sound is unable to perform at different batting order.
Re: Re: Re: Rohit
by naveen dhanerwal on May 12, 2009 01:08 PM
Rajoo, no problem but try to be patient dude. I have had arguements with my mates on Sachin. I feel the same way you do. But, you cann't catch tounge of people talks like this. He's faced immance pressure yet people critisize him, but those too enjoy his batting. Hi Truly, can you ask Dravid to play at no 6-7 and hit boundaries on word go? No, he's techanically solid but he cann't do that. Rohit can do but isn't it better if he plays his natural game? He likes to have some time on pitch and then go after the bowlers. Their are many batsman who performe best at no they find themselves comfortable. Rohit is one of them, dude.
When Rohit played his debut match, everyone praised him with his batting style to likes of Sachin.. He has that natural talent and now that he bowls too with Sachin style taking some wickets.. If he keeps his consistency and keeps his feet on earth like Sachin he is heading to become second Sachin Tendulkar Best luck Rohit
Now, Rohit Sharma is become one of the alrounders. He should be given permanent change in one day as well ODI also in Test. He is showing best performance in IPL. Keep it up. Best of luck Rohit.

by aaaa bbbb on May 12, 2009 11:19 AM
yes.. the problem is T20 matches lack quality apart from identity crisis. One day cricket playing for the country bring more passion and challenges
Rohit is an extremely talented cricketer; very, very promising. He has an abundance of natural talent. He makes batting looks so easy. He has a rich repertoire of exciting shots and he plays hook and pull with aplomb. The thing to be noticed about Rohit is that he is very confident when he plays on the backfoot. His footwork is swift and reflexes are smooth. This enables him to time his shot well. He hits the ball really hard and looks naturally aggressive. He has all the shots in the book and he plays most of them with sweet timing. There is no doubt that he has bright future in international cricket. He is a very attractive batsman to watch. If nurtured well, he has the ability to make big and serve the country with distinction. Already he possesses gud fielding skills. His bowling, too, is very, very good. If he works hard on his bowling, he will emerge as a very powerful all-rounder.

by aaaa bbbb on May 12, 2009 11:22 AM
Any day Rohit is far better player than Venugopalraos and Ramesh powars...who are simply unfit to represent national team.
Re: Re: Rohit possesses natural talent
by naveen dhanerwal on May 12, 2009 11:44 AM
LOL..here people are compairing him with Sachin's caliber and you are putting him with Ramesh and Venugopal's! Grow up man!
Re: Re: Re: Rohit possesses natural talent
by naveen dhanerwal on May 12, 2009 11:46 AM
He did, but only in a few matches. He played hardly 1-2 good innings. Total waste of time he was.
Re: rohit sharma: did he slander abhishek raut?
by nadeem sonde on May 12, 2009 11:12 AM
Yes, he abused Raut. It seems the deccanis were desperate to win. The way they were appealing on every ball, putting pressure on the umpires; it was evident. Every side needs to win but it would do the game some justice if one is fair with his opponents.
This gentleman is headed for India captaincy. Dhoni has seen it and doing everything possible to have him axed from the side by slotting him in unenviable batting slots so that when he fails, that could be held against him. If Dhon's protege Raina had half as much skills, there was some reason to promote him. That the pyrotechnics indulged in by Raina has come off might help him in the short-term, but India needs a Rohit more than a Raina or Uthappa.
Re: Rohit
by Raja on May 12, 2009 11:45 AM
Rohit performance in the international scene is very inconsistent and he invariably plays muchbetter in ipl as he did last time around but when it comes to playing for india he plays much below par.Just go through his strike rate and the average in both odi and T20 in last one year.........
Re: Rohit
by Deepak on May 12, 2009 11:07 AM
Rohit is good that doesnt make raina bad, infact even raina is very talented and the main reason he is in the team is his consistency unlike rohit
Re: Re: Rohit
by naveen dhanerwal on May 12, 2009 11:43 AM
Silk ans Mathews, you both are right dudes. Raina too is very talented but Rohit is better choise for one down slot. Rohit has better potential for the most crucial slot no 3. Dhoni has wasted his so far sending him so late in batting order. He's not a batsman who come in and starts playing his shots. He takes his time and build his inng very well. You can not trust on Raina when comes Tests. Rohit has better capabilitis for this no both in Tests and ODIs.
Re: Re: Re: Rohit
by sreeroop kt on May 13, 2009 02:27 PM
If Rohit has the capabilities he had to prove in international matches where he was given ample opportunities. Iam sure no other batsmen would have got that much chances to prove himself than Rohit. I can say he is still lucky to survive inspite of lacklustre performance. Can you just remember one match winning good innings which Rohit played for India? If u compare him with likes of Raina and Yusuf Pathan even Irfan Pathan, they can single handedly win matches and proved it for India before. I am sure Rohit will get his chances soon..So at any cost he needs to prove himself or else it would be waste of talent.
