if we seeing the match of kings11 panjab..all the viewrs will wear penisguard...is it????
ICC should form panel for risk assesment for umpire in all form of Cricket. Based on Scientific evaluation (distance, maximum speed of ball, time taken by ball to reach to Umpire, normal human reflexes etc) panel can suggest all forms of personal protective equipments (not only helmet but also inner for protective for delicate organs, ie.,------)to be used while umpiring.

one good shot is enough to kill the umpire. let them use all kinds of safety kit available.they too have family

probability analysis of how many times shots are directed towards umpires. Percentage of shots played by players is straight drive. statistical correlation between speed of ball, speed of bat, speed of ball after hitting and delicate nature of body parts! I hope this is enough for panel to run for 10 to 15 years of research project.

being a risk assesment exercise, panel can model a 3-dimensional random walk model with tager co-ordinates at umpire postion. the drift component can be fiunction of game format and teams playing.

Pretty enjoyable replies.... :-) :-)
Just because some Harper wanted a helmet, our friend Umesh had come out with a project that may consume few crores of rupees and so many man-years of research work. If ICC rules don't talk the other way, just give him a helmet and be done with it Umesh. Keep the R&D to yourself.

trajectory analysis, biometric analysis and bio-dynamics within body parts. Analysis of delicate parts are important.
I guess it's only a matter of time before you see Computers with spcialized technology taking over job of Umpires. It will be more efficient & error-free.
Re: DO WE NEED AN UMPIRE ON FIELD ????
by Vivek on May 12, 2009 01:57 PM
considering the fastness of the game . quick decisions are required, and there fore an umpire. computer can be used for suspicious decisions only.
Most of the umpires are aged and do not have quick reflexes compared to that of the players. BTW considering the hard hitting talent on T20 for the likes of Yousuf Pathan, Uthappa, Shewag, Gambhir, Dhoni, Jadeja, Jaisurya, Hayden, Gilly, Rohit etc.. It is better they sport the helmets.
I feel umpires should wear baseball helmets. I am a small time umpire standing in local games and i have been hit by shots played by batsmen on several occasions.

thank god you were small time only. So bad reflex and no wonder you were hit out of the profession.
Poor umpires running for thier lives these days. I completely agree on this concept. Some of the shots T20 are so dangerous they need to protected after all they also deserve same treatment as crickter on field. Tough to be an empire
