TWO VIEWS ON IPL
by ARIF KHAN on Mar 06, 2009 03:28 PM  | Hide replies

Wow! Readers on this forum are totally divided on IPL issue. Many feel that IPL should not be held as it is election time and country is more important. Some feel that IPL should happen because IPL matches are not held during voting days. Almost equal number of readers have opposite view.

My view would be that IPL should be conducted according to revised schedule. Ok its election time and we will require a lot security to prevent terrorist activities. But if we back down than that will send wrong message to the cricketing world. What happens in sub-continent countries like Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is that western countries fear of touring those countries. But here if IPL is not conducted than it will be Indian Government which is accepting that we cannot provide security hence these players should not come! Now that will happen 1st time in history that hosting nation is rejecting. But don’t you all think that it will have severe impact in future when other country is to tour India. Mr. P. Chidambram you have in one sentence accepted that you cannot provide security. That’s pathetic comment and all developments which are being done.

So, if IPL is not conducted than rest assured in future /any team would reluctant to tour India, because here Government itself is not confident leave aside giving confidence to players.

GREAT SACHIN
by Ravi Chandran on Mar 06, 2009 03:22 PM

Nobody can shine when Viru is around. 69 for the 1st wicket in the last match, created the platform to build, as acknowledged by Dhoni. Today also, Sachin kept the run-rate up, after Viru left.

Jewel in India's crown
by Venkatesh V on Mar 06, 2009 03:13 PM  | Hide replies

Viru has shown his incredibility at the top yet again. The amount of consistency he has brought to his ODI performances of late is very heartening to see. He is giving fantastic starts almost in every outing of his. Any batsman would love to bat alongside him not worrying too much about the scoring rate. Thats one of the reason why Sachin who struggled initially 14(37) ended up 61(69) because he had all the time in world to get himself settled. I dont think there is any batsman (was there any before ?) who finds fence as easily as him and as regularly as him. I remember Akash Chopra(in one of the TV shows) saying 'In one of the club matches during our earlier playing days he used to hit boundaries even when all 9 fielders were on the boundary line'. What a talent !!??

Credit to whom for consistency:

1. Sehwag - for change in approach
2. Kirsten - For making him change his approach
3. Dhoni - For letting Sehwag decide himself how to play , and not putting any pressure on him.

I dont think any other captain had put pressure on him to change his approach. Forget Greg as he was the coach. The only thing that has made him consistent is the fear of losing his spot in the side. He knows Dhoni doesn't fancy him in the team and he might plan his exit as easily as he did in case of Sourav and Dravid. CB series is a perfect example of that and I just cant put that out of my mind when it comes to Dhoni's partiality.

That time both were flopped in initial matches of CB series, but Sachin got advantage beacuse of great test series for him.

I am not saying Dhoni was partial towards Sachin. It was Yuvraj despite his mediocre performances in tests whereas Sehwag had done fantastic in the 2 test he played.

I think he felt Yuvi as better option than Viru in middle order. Yuvi was on top in Dravid-Chappel era while Sehwag on floor. Past performance forced Dhoni to choose Yuvi over Viru. Viru just made comeback in this series after a long gap. Now you can see he is playing almost every match and Sachin is taking rest in some matches.

Sanath?? I respect him a lot. He has to get credit for the way he plays even at 40. Amazing. One thing I like about him very much is that he is as unselfish as Sehwag and plays for the team's cause. But, he is not the same Sanath when it comes to tests where attacking fields are set and edges go in search of fielders behind square and slips.
No doubt that Sehwag stands ahead of any other batsman when it comes to the ease with which he scores.

Same situation like Ganguly had before 2000 when Sachin was on fire.
Like Ponting had in presence of Hayden and Gilly. Now flopped when they have retired.

They are not invincible now, but enough strong to remain in Top 3.
India is looking best team of ODI currently. But in test will face tough competition with Aus and SA.

coz our battin line up is such a strong maybe the most dangerous in world cricket ri8 now makes india stron contender for no1 spot in ODI in test also we r good to b in top3 but our bowling need to b more consistent and more lethal in both forms(zaheer and ishant r doin well currently) but we need aggressive bowler not one like irfan and munaf definatley

Where does Lalith Modi fit in?
by silk on Mar 06, 2009 02:57 PM

Is it with the Asif Iqbals and Tony Greigs who would sell their grandpa to the highest bidder or is it with his own Modi-clan who owe the India Banks and financial institutions all their cash stashed away in foreign banks?

Poor Sachin! now we have to wait for 1-2 years to see the next half century from him if he is not kicked out.
Whats happening to Dhoni guys?? He wanted the Indian team to be young. When will these players like Dravid,Sachin, lakshman go go give chance to some young promising players like, Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, and so many waiting to start their international careers!

Sachin, please give the youngsters a chance to play! Retire, you have done your part for Team India! we are proud of you!
