Slightly deeper than what Kotian says
by Iceberg on Jun 17, 2009 04:08 PM

All thru the IPL days, these players were in opposite camps. They abused each other, celebrated their wickets, taunted them when they got out and teased them when they lost. Now, when you come back into the national team, you take time to get over the insults and gel as a unit. We are no Gods who would forgive the other the moment the match was over. You take time. That time wasn't available. Had there been a 2 months' gap betweenm the IPL and the world cup, this gelling would not have been a problem. Also, physically they would have been fitter. While Gary Kirsten is talking more of physical fatigue in terms of hectic scheduling, Dhoni is talking of the inter-personal issues where he says the team performed only 60% as a unit. This is probably what he means.

Shame on indians
by stephen jose on Jun 17, 2009 03:21 PM

As a indian I felt very sorry that India lost out so early. But the way BCCI and Indian team has been behaving, they deserve this the very least. They are continously playing cricket and because of which they were tired and just not interested in playing cricket as is evident from skipping practice session. 2nd Factor is IPL. If guys like lalit Modi are there who are at the helm of cricket, who can only think of BCCI and their franchisee and behave like mercenaries and got the whole team fatigued and injred. When the Govt of india requested them to postpone the IPL, they like the lords went ahead and took it to South Africa putting the image of the country at risk and bothering only about their money and franchisee. The players are only interested in endorsement and making money and not interested in protecting the prestige of the country. The behaviour of Yuvraj and Dhoni bears this out.

The BCCI should sit and set the calendar for the year and take preventive measures before the cricket goes the hockey way

Fatigue
by righty rightwinger on Jun 17, 2009 02:38 PM

Rather than fatigue it was phat gayi due to bouncers that caused India to crash out.

Kirsten is Spot On
by Sandy on Jun 17, 2009 02:00 PM  | Hide replies

Gary Kirsten is spot on when he said that fatigue was one of the reason for Indias poor showing. Everybody could see a tired Dhoni and Yousf Patan trying to hit even when they where only at crease for 20-30 Minutes. Its not that Australia has played more matches than India in this year. Its when that matches was played. Indian team has been playing internationakl cricket non stop for the last 4 months and then the international nautanki called IPL also put in between the players would defenitly be tired. Kirsten had said fatigue as only one of the resons. The immature and corrupt media made it as the only reason and went all after Kirsten.

Whether IPL is responsible or not, there is no gainsaying the fact that money makes the mare go. Last year Tendulkar was unfit for the earlier part of IPL matches but later on he played the IPL matches by declaring himself fit. Subsequently, he opted out of India's official tour citing injury. Thus, he played IPL for money but opted out of India's official tour. Similarly, Dhoni played IPL last year and made lot of money. Subsequently, he opted out of India's official tour to Sri Lanka citing too much cricket as reason. When playing for money in the IPL there was no `too much cricket', but the moment you haveto don India colours where there is not that much money as IPL, all sorts of reasons for not representing the country come out. One can draw his/her conclusion from this. But IPL has certainly made players greedy and they do not mind even opting out of playing for the country. After all, their financial needs are met by IPL!As one can see, Tendulkar is again reported to be opting out of the official West Indies tour starting from 26th June because of injury. But, he did play all IPL matches and made money! A point to ponder indeed!

IPL,no Rest and Sehwag factor ruined psycho. weak indians.
by niranjan inamdar on Jun 17, 2009 01:45 PM  | Hide replies

IPL practice to foriengners,to understand Indian captain mentality,no rest before main world cup events, also Sehwag not present and psychologically weakness in minds of indian players and as usual no answers to chest high bouncers are major drawbacks of indian teams,so if we do not improve in these fields,Dhoni cud be rated as worst captains. Also tactical planning by Dhoni this tour was wrong many times.

T20 is a lottery

Blaming Captain or just a few players for consistent failures in a team game like cricket, is not right. The entire team needs to look at the causes for the failures and prepare better for future events

T-20 itself is a flop show. The more you shorten the game, the more unpredictable it becomes. In near future, we may have five-overs a side games, then one over a side, and finally the toss of a coin would decide the winner. Any team can win or lose in these formats.
Heavens have not fallen because we lost in T-20. If we are not able to change gear for Test Matches in time, that would be the real tragedy.

proteas also played ipl
by paras sethi on Jun 17, 2009 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

i don't think ipl shoud be blamed for indian team's poor performance.
south african n sri lankan players also played almost each n every match in the ipl n they r performing well even in the world cup. some players like dilshan, devilliars, gibbs, kallis were involved in the playing 11 in their respective franchise's team.
if u c proteas past schedule u wud realsie dat they too were playin too many cricket in some past months..Aren't they tired..? so i think this talks are just bullshit. they didn't play upto their potential n r just blaming ipl.

Every body players was playing in IPL, but its the motivation for the team which is big factor which was lacking in the team. Body language was -ve. Reason why India won last time that they were enjoying cricket and had a fire in them. Morever there was a fear in each other, that if we will not play better we will lose our place and there will be no money. Now, every player has lots of money and they know that if they don't play, I can still make lots of money from IPL. Once one get bread easily, no desire for success is there. But, for SA, SL other teams outside the IPL, there is not much money, they have to fight for that and earn the money.
SL and SA people are athletic and are so professional that even during the non-playing period they are following the training assigned to them. But, Indian players use whatever time they have either for endorsement or for parties.
Indian players are not use to tight work schedule. See, even yuvi who is supposed to be too much athletic has put on weight and was not able to run quick singles.
Beside that there is so much ego within the team, one can sense that. So, its useless to include emotions with them, let them enjoy the money.

Yes, Coach is right

Gari Kersten's opinion is true. See what is his opinion in IPL matches there is no good players, most players first class standard only. On the otherhand like Worldcup each team is the best players only. So we should fight against best players. In IPL some bowlers is very poor so Yuvaraj, R.Sharma, R.Jadeja etc. are playing dynamic and they are getting 50s or 100s from 20 or 70 balls. But internationally that is too lack. Garri Kerston no profit from IPL thats why he said the true. Dhoni or other players or BCCI will make money from IPL so they cannot find any problem for IPL. Is it right? What you say?

by tamil troublers on Jun 17, 2009 12:03 PM

You know why Kirsten said this statement, because players who were playing said this to Kirsten that they were tired. Since if any player said this in open media, BCCI will never select him in future... because even IPL is run by useless BCCI and Modi is a part of it. Kirsten said this on behalf of players, Hats off to kirsten to come out in open and said for the benefit of game and country. I salute him, since he is the only one thinking of our country or national pride. this useless BCCI and modi, the pig only wants money
