Sadly, Dhoni's Visa Power did not work. However, he never misses a single ball in TV commercials and cleanly hits them out of the ground. He is talented in TV commercials. Even that is important you know. Atleast more important than showing up in Rashtrapati Bhavan to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna. Tell me how many cricketers are so committed to their strokeplay, as to choose 'Fake Sixes' for Pepsi and Visa power TV ads, over receiving a National award from the President. Therefore dont criticize Dhoni over a lack of commitment.
Next, Dhoni's commitment to build and groom a great Team North India shows long term vision. It reflects the North Indian patriotism that was evident in several online discussion forums as recently as 4 days ago, when pehelwan northies were commenting that since uttar bhartiya ppl were full of 'physical power' they only should be in team India and they will return with the World cup. Every since I read those comments about imaginary north Indian stamina, I have been sleeping peacefully having patriotic wet dreams about a glorious Team North India returning with the world cup!
Unfortunately, my wet dreams got interrupted today, when I accidentally switched on the TV while eating full plate of idli and vada sambar. I was so shocked at Team North India's performance that the steaming sambar spilled out, and the idlis and vadas went flying from my mouth.
Now I dont have rasam to drown my sorrows. Still I will cheer for bha iyya Team North India.

haha... good one puzhakkal. but it looks like u took things a bit too personally. ease up!
man can you belive this, INDIA’s required runrate was 12 and MR.MC.BC. Dhoni was taking singles!!!! what can be said about this person and he was running other side as if he was giving strike to Yusuf!!! Only ball he smashed was final ball of the innings, even if had done the same for last 4 to 6 balls he faced INDIA would have won.
Re: taking singles when RR was 12
by sam puzhakkal on Jun 16, 2009 12:02 PM
Dhoni did the right thing. If you are a captain and you have agreed to fix the match, you willd do exactly what Dhoni did. He ensured that team lost, by not giving Yusuf the strike. After ensuring that bookies are happy, and team lost, he had one last ball. so what does he do, he goes and shows bhai yya aggression in the last ball, so all northie bhai yyas can celebrate at their fake northie bhai yya aggression. So he hit a big four in the last ball, after ensuring the Yusuf could not rescue team India.
Rohit & RP played very well under Gilchrist's captaincy. Even Kumble was a nice captain respecting all the players. Jadeja, Yusuf played well for Rajasthan..
Think about Raina, he was never allowed to settle in no 3 position by Dhoni. He discourage players in presentations after match when playing for CSK. I remember he did not even see Badrinath getting MOM in one match. Very egoistic behaviour with Sehwag. In the last match, did the same with Yuvi. Its high time for Dhoni to become humble and take right decisions.
Test: Sehwag (and drop Dhoni from the XI) ODI: Dhoni T20: Yuvraj (and drop Dhoni from the XI unless his hitting form improves; we dont want singles from Dhoni- that role is for Gambhir)

I say DHONI should be dropped from all the formats for 1 to 2 years, LET him perform in domestic circuit and for INDIA - A and let him prove some thing and then consider from TEAM INDIA, he has taken his place in INDIAN TEAM for granted like his predecessors!!!! non should be give their place in INDIAN team for granted

The bhai yya northies were all over these boards last week screaming why south indians should be kept out of the team because these bhai yya northies have lot of "physical power". (Last time I checked history, every single foreign invader plundered these bhai yyas and tookover their lands and enslaved the northies - yet they keep having wet dreams about their 'martial qualities' LOL. Rajendra Chola from the South invaded foreign lands but bhai yyas would rather glorify the Moghu l invaders that enslaved them instead of the south indian warriors, but thats another story for another day.)
So the entire world saw the strength and 'fighting spirit' of bhai yya northies. Did you see the 'fighter' Harbhajan (Mr. Turbanator) giving away 4s in wides in crunch situations.
Did you watch the great 'physical power' of bhai yya northy studs Jadeja, Rohit Sharma and Dhoni?
The other reason these northies were screaming in the discussion boards why south indian players should be kept away is because "South Indians dont look good". I must grant the northie bhai yyas that much... bhai yyas like 'Ishant Sharma' are really 'model material'. These bhai yyas are team NORTH INDIA's answer to Pakistani greats like Imran Khan & Wasim Akram in the talent, stamina and looks department!!!
No wonder why bhai yya bowlers like Ishant Sharma are idolized by North Indian media as the next 'Glen McGrath'.
Keep on dreaming. Atleast that doesnt cost anything.

I beleive Rohit Sharma is a Telugu Brahmin from Mumbai. And apart, which players from our south proved themselves in IPL to be selected : Utthapa? Laxman ? VG Rao? or the six hitting Dravid?
Re: Re: Re: Have 3 captains
by I am on Jun 16, 2009 11:55 AM
Mate Laxman and Dravid suits only and only TEST match, don't bring this regional based selection!! We have got best team for all the formats! Regarding VG Rao he is not suited for even for Team Andhra or team Hyderabad!!! Worst player ever seen

by ABHIJIT MISRA on Jun 16, 2009 03:33 PM
this bloody rayudu doesnt get chance in his state team, well abhishek nayar is a good player no doubt and has matured a lot under sachin. but never this rao and rayadu
Re: Re: Re: Have 3 captains
by sam puzhakkal on Jun 16, 2009 11:58 AM
So keep playing with six hitting bhai yyas. did you like the six 'match fixer' bhai yya Dhoni hit to win you the match? LOL.
Rayudu, Abhishek Nayar, Bhadrinath and others are some nice youngsters.
Even Dravid would have been better than bhai yya Dhoni in the last over. Atleast he would have tried. Bhai yya Dhoni was taking singles like he was taking a walk in the park.
And you bhai yyas and bhai yyanis are still getting wet dreams over your non existent bhai yya talent.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Have 3 captains

yup didn ask more from dhoni.... any other player would hve tried to get boundries..... y did the six hitting dhoni didn try??? wat was he doing by taking singles? telling pathan to hit six????? thn y v need dhoni? i think even dravid would hve tried to hit
If Dhoni should not be captain of Indian team.. Then now who is capable of doing good captaincy ? any guesses ? (* only for those who are commenting on his captaincy )

I will answer you Q with an example!!
Once Israel’s (if I am not wrong) whole foot ball team killed while they were traveling to participate for a competition, with in 2 or 5 days Israel sent another team. Bottom line “if you are not someone else”
Re: Re: If not Dhoni ...
by I am on Jun 16, 2009 11:30 AM
Kapil, Gavaskar, Azar, Ravi, Sachin, Gangully, Dravid all gone, then someone came to lead the team, same way it will be great players like Rohit or Yuvi or Bajji someone will take his place… will clear you with another example If there is a team where you are working and your lead leaves and joins some other company doesn’t that project continue, someone from the existing team will lead and doesn’t he deliver the project!!!

I think a captain can never win a match for team but can make team loose because of him loose captaincy. Previously the credit of aus win was given to Ponting but after loosing Gilchrist, hayden, warne the team got worser and the results are in front of all of us. But for team India playing with the same combination as in 07 the only reason causing india defeat is d Captain.
Re: Re: If not Dhoni ...

I think 10 runs in wides by harbhajan in final overs.18 over - 5 runs given 20 - 5 runs given, that was the turning point, because above given the momentum for opposition to defend.
IPL should be scrapped, then only our players will concentrate on playing for India...And the time of IPL also a ffactor to this loss...player are very tired and they will not inform the Board also that they are tired b'se of IPL..
Even if India has won that match, India then have to beat SAfrica by 20 runs r 2 1/2 overs to spare (win in 17.3) to get into semis. India was 'almost gone' even if they have bet england. Wake up... Guys!
Re: Re: Re: Re: India and semis?
by Indian Saint on Jun 16, 2009 11:18 AM
You stil don't get it. I will take your own example. What I am saying is: Aggregate reqd: 50% and a mimimum 40% in 1 subject.
If you pass in Science with 40% (England), you should score 60% in Maths (SAfrica)to get a overall pass. Gt it?!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: India and semis?
by I am on Jun 16, 2009 11:22 AM
I got it...but for getting what ever against SA first you have win against England then only these permutations and combinations would have been made since. If you haven’t cleared the first hurdle then what height or what difficulty is second doesn’t matter. Its 2020, you never know India would have scored the required runs in less then 17 overs which would have qualified them to semis’ but they don’t have that option as they did gave them a chance by losing match against England
1) Elmination of Ohja (Majority of England bowlers were right handed and he would have been perfect for them) 2) Sending Jedeja up the order 3) Bajji 2 wides costed INDIA 10 runs
Dhoni who? by Avinash Kadam on Jun 16, 2009 10:40 AM | Hide replies
(1) Since winning the T20 world cup last time, Dhoni and his men have lost all the T20 matches against Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
(2) Dhoni’s CSK could not win both the IPL tournaments.
(3) T20 World Cup 2009 was a disaster for Team India.
(4) What is Dhoni’s contribution with the bat in all those wins in the test matches and one day games? (like that of Sangakara). Negligible.
(5) Is Dhoni an outstanding wicket keeper like Gilchrist or our own Kirmani? No he is in the league of Mongia, Kiran More and others.
(6) When was the last time Dhoni played attacking innings similar to that of Shewag. Don’t remember, may be three years ago, when he blasted Sri Lanka in a one day match.
(7) Has Dhoni won any matches on his own, in any capacity – as a batsman, a wicket keeper, a Captain? No, cricket is a team game. There can be match winners but not solo winners.
(8) Sachin, Shewag, Rahul and Laxman, do they need to be motivated, guided and managed? No, they are committed, talented and non egoistic; they don’t require to be supervised by any Captain, least by Dhoni.
Why is Dhoni in the team? Because he is the Captain.

Shinde:
No one is capable of doing good captaincy.... your point well taken.....
Coz the good captains were Kumble and Gilchrist (who beat everyone else to reach IPL finals).... Kumble has retired, and Gilly obviously not only has retired but he is an Aussie so no use for us...
So your point is absolutely valid..... Only Dhoni can be captain and no one else..... :)
Re: Re: Dhoni, who?
by sam puzhakkal on Jun 16, 2009 12:08 PM
What is wrong with you. should have persisted with Ganguly? And groomed Sehwag for the role. Form is temporary, but class is permanent. Sehwag has proven himself over the years, and is not into politics within the team (like bhai yya Dhoni or even Ganguly for that matter).
Re: Dhoni, who?
by I am on Jun 16, 2009 10:59 AM
the answer is....Dhoni is CAPTAIN n in the team only reason is commercials, 60% of money which BCCI gets is from Dhonis’ advertisements (i.e. nearly 10 to 12 ads) that is the main reason he is in INDIAN team and is the Capitan of the team. GOT IT!!!
