Dhoni is just an ordinary player with lots and lots of luck.
by Avinash Kadam on Jun 12, 2009 05:54 AM  | Hide replies

If Dhoni is such a great captain and he is alone responsible for the wins, then:

Why Chennai Superkings lost in both the IPL tournaments?

Why did India loose all the T20 matches (post last world cup win) against New Zealand, South Africa and Australia?

India’s wins in test and one day matches are on the back of superlative performances of Sachin, Shewag, Rahul, Laxman and the bowlers of course. I also don’t believe that committed and vastly experienced players like Sachin, Shewag, Rahul and Laxman need to be motivated, guided and managed by any captain, least by Dhoni. Matches are won by team and not by the captain alone.

A captain is only good as good the team is. Take example of Australia. Till couple of years back, under Ricky Ponting’s captaincy, Australia was winning all the matches. Why are they loosing most of the matches now, even though Ricky Ponting is leading the team. Simple, the retirement of Warne, Gilchrist and Haydon has affected the side’s performance.

So, cut the crap that India is winning because of Dhoni’s captaincy. He is simply too lucky to have talented, committed and non egoistic players such as Sachin, Shewag, Rahul and Laxman, who have been consistently performing well.

We would rather have lucky a person as our captain and not one who always has gods against him and is saddled with so many sins that one thing or the other always goes wrong with him and in the process Indian team suffers.

Dhoni's Transition !
by HonestTruth on Jun 11, 2009 09:25 PM  | Hide replies

This was bound to happen ! Dhoni should have taken lessons from others before him like Sachin, Saurav and Dravid, in fact, even Kumble. Our media and spectators have a habit of raising a person on a pedestal and then kicking him and they enjoy it thoroughly.

Dear friends, Dhoni as a batsman is the same batsman that he was earlier, the only difference being that earlier the opposition bowlers didnt know much about him, and also we had no expectations from him; so, he could score runs and we also overlooked all the shortcomings that he had as far as his batting technique was concerned.

Also the fact that he led us to a WC win (even if it is T20) and that too just on the tail of a humiliating exit from ODI WC made us give him an aura as well and nothing that he did seemed wrong to us.

Now that the team is winning continuously, we decided that the person lacking is Dhoni himself and start slapping him, and added to that the media who is used to being pampered by all celebrities just could not digest that they were snubbed, and so the result is that Dhoni becomes the bad boy of Indian cricket.

I request all to please shed this habit. I am no fan of Dhoni, but am indeed a fan of Indian cricket, and I respect anybody who allows me to hold my head high when I am in the midst of other cricket-loving people, and as far as media is concerned - Give respect and earn respect.

Nice one dude, but dhoni co ming at one down is making use of his position as a captain. When there are people in form hugry to get runs he should allow them to do just that. This is one aspect that he screwed up as a captain.
His theory of not losing wickets and then go for the kill in the last 6 overs is a dangerous ploy
If Yuvraj did not fire earlier India would have had an embarassing defeat with bdesh. hehas not learnt from it and continued at that position. he has done it for last four matches without success
He should not get touchy about this and just come down the order

Other aspects of captaincy are good as of now. Media or nomedia, 1 dwn batting by dhoni was a blooper

Swastink,
What's your problem if Dhoni comes as opener or at number 10th?
Whatever India team is today, that is because of experiments, and smart leadership.
Don't forget test match against NZ when Dhoni was not leading the team.

I am sure you know that respect is earned not asked or begged. I do not think Dobhi has done anything significant to get respect.
Dobhi did not win T2020 for India, though he lifted it because he was the captain.
Kapil is still respected and admired because he as captain contributed immensely to winning of World Cup in 1983?

Best captain?
by LG on Jun 11, 2009 08:56 PM  | Hide replies

Fools make mistake so do intelligent/genius people. Does that mean some fools are intelligent. No.

Similarly, a team having great captain wins matches and so does an ordinary captain having many match winners in his team. It is naïve to call an ordinary captain great or the best without considering the quality of team members and captain’s contributions in those wins.

My point is media has hyped Dobhi who is a club-level cricketer. I have been saying it for long time. From recent comments here, I am glad to know that people have at least realized the truth now.

This is a modus operandi by media persons and their associates, who in disguise and putting different names blaming Dhoni incessantly. The reason is quite obvious that Dhoni dared to tell the media and showed them mirror, which they never expected. actually we all need psychophants, if dont get then criticize.

by LG on Jun 11, 2009 08:08 PM  | Hide replies

he is fool with arrogance. He has been hyped by media as a great cricketer and the best Indian captain. Funny thing is he started believing in the hype.

Both fools and intelligent people look cool as they hardly express their emotions.

Then how do you separate intelligent people from fools? ---Check their contributions (for example in cricket their contributions as batsman, bowler, or fielder/WK).

Dobhi has not contributed either as batsman or as wicketkeeper (T20 word cup was won by contributions from other, players).

You are a sad pile of junk..
Let me put it this way - how many indian captains who have contributed with 100's and 200's or taking 5 or 10 wickets have contributed to India winning in the past 70 years?
Dhoni has barely lead India in 50 games, and he has probably won more than Shastri, Vengsarkar, Srikanth, Bedi, Wadekar etc. put together.
Less jabber more thought. Dhoni is going to re-write history, and 10 years down the line, you will be fondly remembering his captaincy.. Wait and watch!

Hahaha - who has the right to enforce language in this country? Why is Hindi the national language when it is spoke as a majority only in UP? Hindi is not the major language in Bihar, Punjab either mind you - it comes behind other local dialects.
Just coz some northie dipshit was elected PM 70 years ago, doesnt mean you shove Hindi down the throats of people. Although I do wish people would learn Hindi - but its up to the people - if they dont want to learn who are you to force it down them? Arent we a secular nation?
