I find everyone commenting on 36 not out of Gavaskar little realizing that that innings was played as a protest by Gavaskar as he did not favor holding a world cup for ODIs which would have sidelined Test Matches. Gavaskar and some other stalwarts formed a camp which wanted a world champion status for tests based on points, whereas it was decided to go ahead with the ODIs, hence that innings. Please get ur facts before commenting. Incidentally Gavaskar scored one of the fastest 100s of that time in 1987 WC. A technically correct batsman can always pace out his innings, unlike a slammer (for eg Dhoni)

Gavaskar would have batted like Rohit Sharma in T20 and made 6 n.o as a opener till the end of 20 overs. Is it not amusing?

That was in a test match in 1983 when they had their best bowlers. Gavaskar started playing hooks which he had not been playing for a while. Gavaskar, as a batsman, was an epitome of correctness in batting technique. Gavaskar would have been as successful as Dravid has been in IPL. If you do not recognize the greatness of the legend, do not comment.

When Australia decides to lose, they just do that..

When Australia decides to lose, they just do that.. They have enough training laying with India joint cricket exercises and now Australians are well versed in the underplay techniques. What now matters to every player is cash and other promises from international cricket mafia for their match-fixing genius.

You are right. Gavaskar is old idiot. Somebody should remind him his classic 36 not out, carried bat all through the innings in 60 overs world cup match. He should stop commenting about T-20 players.

do not change the topic, when we talk about cricket, talk about cricket only, no need for other vulgar words, it shows you have no defense from your side

Gavaskar: "I would think I would bat like somebody like Rohit Sharma".
Next set of stalwarts to join the 'self-band' procession.

1. Atul Wassan: If I get a chance to play in T20 World Cup, I might play like Glen McGrath
2. Arun Lal: I can play like Sachin.
3. Chetan Sharma: I can play like Kapil Paji
4. Sidhu: I can play WITH Mandira Bedi.

SOlute to Gavaskar
by idonthateteamindia on Jun 06, 2009 10:50 PM  | Hide replies

Solute to Gavaskar for excellent statement.

In 1975 he has scored 36 not out in 60 overs.

Similarly he would have scored 12 not out in 20 overs.

That was a historic knock. In 20-20 Gavaskar scoring 12 not out out of 20 overs... and India losing to Afganistan or Nepal.

But he would have remained not out also, there by increasing his average. Strike rate wouldn't have bothered this great batsman.

Gavaskars tortoise innings in world cup
by uday pawar on Jun 06, 2009 10:36 PM  | Hide replies

If Gavaskar says he would have enjoyed playing T20 version then I dont think he would have been a captains choice for 20 overs game because of his innings of 36 not out in 60 overs in inaugural edition of the World Cup in 1975. Even if he had scored 1 run per over he would have scored 60 runs. Boredom selfish innings when it required chasing Englands score of 334 runs.
