Sunil Gavaskar is an Icon!!
by ashish fadnavis on Jun 08, 2009 02:07 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Friends,

Sandip Patil once said we do not honour our heroes!! reading the lines which have been written here I have to agree. Guys, you have freedom of speech... but does it mean you have to demean one of our greatest cricketers? have you ever seen anything bad written about Sir Don Bradman or Sir Gary Sobers? have ever heard an Aussie demean even alan border or steve waugh? why is it then, that people in our country tend to do this? why do regional biases come into play while praising a cricketing icon like gavaskar or kapil dev? why is it that a fellow from bengal would say sourav was better than sachin and a fellow from mumbai would say exactly opposite to that? why are we such narrow minded ?

He once scored 36NO in a 60 over game coming as an opener. imagine the score he would have got in a 20 over game...12NO

Sunny thinks highly of himself. He likes Rohit because Rohit plays classical shots also. Sunny thinks he used to play classical shots! These shots were reserved after his uncle used to lift his finger from the stands!

Gavaskar can play T20
by Jomesh George on Jun 08, 2009 12:21 PM  | Hide replies

Gavaskar was a great batsman and i believe he is suitable for any format by doing some hard work and practice. He hit a six against Chatfield of NZ in 87 WC and that shot is debated till now.In the same match he scored 103 off 88 balls. After his retirement i saw him playing an exhibition match where he hit 7 sixes.Gavaskar concentrated more on test matches and formed his batting style according to situations of test matches. But he can also be a success in T20 provided he change his style of batting.

gavaskar has hit more boundaries and sixers of fast bowlers , especially the west indians, than his contemperoraries.

He batted like he hid due to the way cricket and team india was then.

Surely he would have adapted to T20.

His thoughts are as pathetic as his commentary..
by Amit on Jun 08, 2009 11:22 AM  | Hide replies

Some of his usual commentaries..
"He stepped out to a fast bowler as if he was a spinner!" - wow, it's a big deal for him.
"He just got a boundary of the previous ball, he should have taken a single and not gone for a big shot!" - just like his playing days, preserving his wicket.
"He can learn a lot from the great Sachin batting along with him" - too much prasing seems like a broken record!
Not to mention his limited vocab. Feel like throwing up, whenever he comes for commentating.

The other option (which I mostly do) is to mute the volume, so that you don't have to listen to his non sensical utterences.

Chris gayle, sehwag, devilliers of this world move aside and eat your heart out..grand daddy, the original pocke size dynamo, the born little master is dreaming of t20. If gavaskar would have played T20 he would have made sure wolrd wouldnt have seen a person called lalit modi and tournament called ipl..he was the slow death a chinese torture.

They would have to amend it to T10 because he would have shifted the sightscreen before every ball and not allowed the full quota to be bowled by either side

he scored 36 in 60 overs; in T20 he would have scored 12 in 20.
