Gavaskar has become obsolete
by Swarup on Jun 07, 2009 09:56 PM  | Hide replies

Is any body bothered about gavaskars views .He thinks he is an expert let him keep his expertise with him .The spectators understand what they see and they no need of Gavaskars to educate them

he did not gave his views, he just expressed his liking fot t20. Before critisizing him, do an analysis of his record against the fastest attack in the world at that time (in westindies against garner, holding, roberts, and marshall scoring heavily which no other batsman scored). learn to respect a man who has such distinguished career. He may have scored 36 in 60 overs, that was in the be
ginning. Many times, he played the role of stabilizer while others like srikanth just blasted away. In terms of technique, he is far ahead of his times and his contemporories. You are not qualified to comment about him

problem is if he doesn't let his "expertise" out one way or the other, he gets constipation

Agreed Gavaskar very rarely played or scored when India won or had to win. That does not mean he doesn't know cricket. Ultimately Shah rukh khan went upside down. You should realise what SRK did for Calcutta. Ganguli commented that Calcutta did not lose the match (IPL T20) in the last over but they lost the match even before it started. Open your eyes and stop praising SRK

The analysis on Sunil Gavaskar is quite good. Infact many few know about te technique he possesed in handling the dealy west Indian attack. even Viv Richards was not able to handle the same bowlers while playing domestic shell trophy.

Not sure how much you have followed the Gavaskar-era, but the reason he used to bat slow was deliberate because during most of his playing days, India did not have the bowlers to bowl the opposition twice. So the ploy used to be to first secure a draw. Not the best of mindsets, but realistic in that time.

However, in terms of capability - samples some of this.... A 96 ball century in Pakistan (Karachi I think) - and another 128 with more than run a ball against a rampaging West indian bowling attack. So the capability was there, it was just a calculated move of 'Safety First'.

For those who say he was 'Pathetic' simply don't know cricket. Against the Best Bowling attack (of all time perhaps) - against the West Indies, he has close to 3000 runs close to an average of 70 and 13 (thirteen centuries) ... The next best against that attack was 2 or 3 centuries.

Do some basic reading, research before exhibiting your 'knowledge'

well said dude.......... i also agree...... i have seen gavaskar play from his hay days and he used to first try to save the match as he knew our bolwers were not in a posituion to bowl for 2-3 days at a stretch.

As for his slow batting, well in test cricket you got to wait there on the crease. Ask any great test player or for that matter any international player how difficult it is to sustain the pressure holding the crease for session after session.

INDIA WOULD HAVE LOST WORLD CUP BECAUSE OF THIS MAN
by your Doctor on Jun 07, 2009 05:07 PM  | Hide replies

India would have lost the world cup because in most of the innings he got out early if he would have played everyone knows what would have happen. What a great gift He gave to Kapil after returning from World cup. This idiot wanted captaincy and got it along with the help of Ravi Shashtri

have you seen the thrashing given by the windies to us in india after the world cup. We should always try to maintain the standard we have set. So, as a captain, mr. dev failed to maintain that and so he was shown the door, Mr.Dev's incapability is the cause.do some homework before abusing others

if gavaskar would have not taken those 2 unbelivable catches in the slips in the 83 finals india would have not won the cup.
I am not supporting him cause you r right when u say what he did to kapil to get captaincy........kapi; probably was the most honest player india has ever produced who played the game for the love of playing and played to win......maybe dravid comes close

when some one misfields he gags as if he was a good fielder. He has dropped more number of catches than what he caught. His gag irritates.

How many catches he has dropped or how may misfields he has done? You can not just slander someone like Gavaskar without supporting with facts. In fact, he was a safe fielder in the slips right through his career. He was not a flamboyant fielder, but was a good fielder.

by your Doctor on Jun 07, 2009 05:01 PM  | Hide replies

Sunny failed to score a hundred till 31.10.1987 in ODI and propably he forgot he played ODI in the most sedate way possible 36 runs in 60 overs in world cup. First let him become disciplined. then talk about short version of cricket. He is the most selfish batsman in world

Till Kapil scored 175 in the '83 world cup, Indians never played positively enough to score a hundred in an ODI. In fact, Gavaskar was run out for 90 in an ODI in 1983 in WI at Berbice against the best bowlers (the first time India won against WI). Kapil slammed a quickfire 70 and this created a belief in the minds of the team that they can beat WI. Those two knocks by them are significant in their own ways. Century is not the only parameter to evaluate batting.
