Aussies can turn things around
by Special Correspondent on Jan 31, 2009 01:30 AM  | Hide replies

It is not so much the retirement of some players than the injury and loss of form of certain players that has led to Australia's downfall.

Stuart Clark, their highest ranked bowler has been injured for a long while. Brett Lee is out of form. Hayden had been out of form since a long time. Ricky Ponting had seen a significant dip in form. The incredible Hussey has also been out of form. Shaun Tait has had psychological problems. Symonds has been out because of non-cricketing reasons.

I think Australia can turn it around through the following ways. Establish Shaun Marsh and Phil Jaques as Hayden's long-term replacements in one-dayers and tests, respectively. Make Hussey sit with psychological counsellors. Ponting is already getting back his form. Brett Lee also needs counselling (his problem lies outside the field... in his failed love life). Get back Symonds to the team, no matter what. Work on Stuart Clark's fitness. And lo and behold, you will have the Aussie team of old. This is good for international cricket.

Counselling is for wimps.....real men don't need all that wussy stuff!! I'am sure all the top Aussie players will hit their straps and come back into the reckoning!!

Right now, Australia are not playing bad cricket..rather South Africa are playing flawlessly, learn to give credit where it is due!!

Yaar more than half of the world champs are out of form for reasons that you have mentioned..... With all these "If and Buts" how can you say that Ozs are the same old team. Accept it dude, they are convincingly outplayed by the Indains and the Africans!!! This is a brutal game of Cricket.. If you are out of form, you are dislodged.

nope, we should be taking cues. others can take cue to show the oz team the door. more so, cos they have bee the side trumpeting all along, not with skill - but more so with their mental disintegration and highly egoistic ruffling of feathers.

Australia now looks the most boring team to watch ahead of WI,NZ,for what was the most exciting, thrilling team to watch for a decade having extreme zeal to win the game. But soon they started to get hammered from other team with minute consistency,Aussies fluttered which shouldn't have happened especially in ODI's considering most of the players playing for a long time. But credit to SA the way they kept on the heat on Australia, full marks to them.

India at #1 in ODI

India has to beat SL 5-0 and to win first 4 matches against NZ to catch up the 1st spot where NZ has to beat Oz in the upcoming ODI series.

After the retirement of some striking bowlers like Mcgrah,Shane has the team very very weak.Batting also baring a few is not outstanding. On the other SA has come up and build up the team to defeat any oponenets.

Australia dealing with double blow
by Rahul Kulkarni on Jan 30, 2009 10:16 PM

Australia no doubt were the undisputer champions of cricket till may be the end of World Cup 2007 when they lifted the coveted trophy for the 3rd straight time.
The reason of their dominance was a well rounder and balanced side, and legends of modern day cricket all playing at the same time. McGrath (one of the best fast bowlers), Warne (best legspinner the world has seen), Gilchrist (best wicket keeper batsman), Ponting (Australia's modern day Bradman), Hayden (arguably one of the best openers in world). But soon, they all started retiring. Australia suffered the first blows when Mcgrath and Warne caled quits. MacGill, who was considered Warne's heir was not any younger nor fitter. Australia then had to deal with another blow when Gilchrist retired. And before the 5 ODI series could start a visibly shaken Australian team lost Hayden and Lee. Add to that Symonds getting into trouble time and again and you have a team without top quality bowlers or batsmen. This team was certainly nowhere near the team that won 2007 World cup. Result was obvious. 1-4 loss to South Africa.

How does it matter who is No. 1
by S Shrikanth on Jan 30, 2009 09:59 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket is an entertainment. Spectators on TV enjoy it like a movie which players are actors. An Indian cricket lover I won't get anything if India is No. 1. But I would be thrilled at the end of an excited match.

So, enjoy cricket. It does not matter who is No.1. What matters is that matches are not one sided, they should be evenly contested and produce thrilling finish. The recent between SA- Aus and India-England one day series were one sided and dull. Cricket loses charm if matches are one sided.

Shame on Sri Ram Sena for attacking women
by Pravin Sabharwal on Jan 30, 2009 09:49 PM  | Hide replies

Its sheer nonsense to attack women in a democratic country, who has framed any law for women no to go to pubs and hotels, who the hell is Sr Ram Sena ? what do they think of themselves? and what is the law doing to punish those who created such a crime? is there anybody responsible for such a coward act, absolutely shameful to our country, we talk about being the most developed country and aim to become super power, B----S.

The so called non secular forces want cheap publicity and importance for the forthcoming lok Sabha polls, otherwise there can be no other reason behaving like Talibans of Afghanisthan.

If anything is to be stopped then stop wearing pants and start wearing gandhiji ka dhotis and stop all cigarette and alchohol factories, close all Internet companies, shut off mobile services, shut off private TV channels, Radio stations, keep all theatres closed.

Cheap acts of attacks on women is not tolerated in a correct spirit, dont these SRI RAM SENA gang and their crook non secular forces realise what they do behind closed doors by organising mujras, drinks party, drug, extortion, blackmailing and destroying the economy of the country.

What are they trying to preach, even they themselves don't know, bunch of idiots talking of ideology which they don't know of, just creating disturbance and panic among peace loving people who just want a break from a stressful daily life.

This will discourage tourists, and investors to come with open arms into this country just bec

I think you are insulting the Taliban when you compare them to the nincompoops who make up the saffron parties, they are too insignificant to make any impact, most of these parties like the Bajrang Dal are made up of unemployed disgruntled youth who want to make money and have fun at the expense of the common man.....so they loot innocent Hindus by extorting money in the name of temple trusts and then live off and feed off on the temple trust's money...wine, booze, big 5 star hotel fare is all sponsored by these temple trusts, beware...if you and i allow such forces to come to power, the next step would be compulsory contribution to these bogus temple trusts...let us crush such forces decisively!!

You are an educated individual and understand that most parites which make up the so called Hindutva brigade are full of crooks......but the gullible naive people are emotionally fooled by rabble rousing that centres on Hindu dharma, Ram, Sita, Hanuman etc.....and might make the mistake of voting for the saffron alliance....

We have to educate these gullible masses that such forces are inimical to the interests of the nation and should be crushed..
Peopple like Pramod Muthalik, Sadhvi Praya and Purohit need to be shot dead in a fake encounter so that such filth never takes root again!!
