Sourav Ganguly is truly the best captain india has ever produced. India's rise to number 1 in ranking initiated under him...Hope there is no scope for debate here for Ganguly hater's

Dhoni is the best captain India has produced. India achieved No 1 status under him. A captain is as good as the team...what Sourav could not dhoni could...got it boy.

This is debatable. In terms of numbers probably you can say so. But in Ganguly's regime, the ground-work actually started. Logging heads with opposition and winning overseas started in his tenure. Also he was instrumental in professionalising the sport and backed many young talents who are in full blossom today. Dhoni, indeed is a good captain, but could have been better tested had he been gone through the difficult phases like what we had seen in late 90s.

But the base upon which Dhoni acheived the feet is laid down by SG so simply he is great captain India has ever produced.

as u say captain as good as team, it is proved once again when under Sehwag's captaincy India thrashed Lankans.

Media was crying as if Dhoni won't play than India will not win. On any given day Karthik is perfect replacement for Dhoni. Infact to me Sehwag desrves to be the captain of the team.

Karthik's keeping was embarassing. In batting,Dhoni is among the best finishers in the game today, so his absence puts a huge hole in the batting lineup. Karthik had the comfort of having Tendulkar on the other side. Don't say Karthik is a a good replacement for Dhoni. Dhoni is one of the best batsmen in the contemporary 50 overs game

Lot of articles are here about the good things done by Azar.

It will be better, if we get the same comments from one of the best opener of his time, namely Siddu.

u cant compare both of them ?? sidhu had great selfrespect not unlike azhar who was busy fixing & earning more just to fill in his pockets.

do u remember the england tour of 1996 he came without playing as he had differnces with fixer.

had azhar did any thing like that he just wanted to keep things under his control & do what he wanted keeping other things at bay .

Sachin contribution in Ganguly's career......
by Anurag Rathore on Dec 23, 2009 10:57 AM  | Hide replies

I still remember in 90's Sachin was used to utilize the powerplay and Ganguly took some time to settle down. When Sachin reached on 50-60 Ganuly managed only 20-25 runs till that time. Sachin took all the pressure on himself. It helped alot Ganguly. Who first made his half century and then took the risk. After 2000 Ganguly changed his approach and played positive cricket.

Yes. I agree and for that matter it was his natural stroke play in the 90's like Sehwag doing now. That really helped Ganguly and he utilized it properly. Even Sachin and other are said Ganguly is the Best Captain even though Dhoni is matching him now and will exceed his Numbers very soon but the fact is Ganguly's team is not filled with greats and young talents unlike Dhoni's Youth and Experience. Dhoni's Test record so far is amazing.

Ganguly ordinary captain - against minnows and home series wins.
Ganguly's captaincy record abroad shows he has not won any series abroad.Dravid Wadekar, Bedi, Pataudi Gavaskar all have won series abroad

In Pak series won two tests Dravid was captain Dada in one. Here is his record.

in Bangladesh Test Match 2000/01 - 1 matches won & serie win ---- Captain Ganguly
in Zimbabwe Test Series 2001 - 1 matches won & serie drawn --- Captain Ganguly
in Sri Lanka Test Series 2001 - 1 matches won & serie lost ----- Captain Ganguly
in West Indies Test Series 2001/02 - 1 matches won & serie lost ----- Captain Ganguly
in England Test Series 2002 - 1 matches won & serie drawn --- Captain Ganguly
In Australia Test series 2003 -04- 1 matches won & serie Drawn --- Captain Ganguly
in Pakistan Test Series 2003/04 - - 1 matches won & serie win ---- Captain Ganguly 1
in Bangladesh Test Series 2004/05 - 2 matches won & serie win --- Captain Ganguly
in Zimbabwe Test Series 2005/06 - 2 matches won & serie win --- Captain Ganguly

Captaincy series wins abroad against quality opposition
Pataudi one series win
Bedi and Wadekar 2 Series wins each against mighty of their times.
Azar Ganguly one each against quality oppositiom

but Ganguly Captaincy only series win gainst PAK abroad was shared so credit is devided between Dravid and Ganguly.
Dhoni and Gavaskar one each against mighty side of their times
