Ganguly was a great motivator of the team, no question. I do not believe there was any doubt in his leadership skills; he was dropped due to his inability to contribute with the bat. He is India's most successful captain. I think, however, in all this discussion, there are few players who never get credit: Ganguly's success as a captain had a lot to do with Dravid's amazing run of form from 1999-2006. He set up victories in England (Headingley), Aus, NZ, etc. And, of course, Eden Gardens, Ganguly's first test series as captain, along with VVS. VVS also set up victories in multiple games, esp vs Aus. Sehwag had just started to find his feet. The bowling improved with Zaheer/Pathan and Bhajji coming through.
Dravid and VVS had a huge role to play in overseas successes (VVS, esp Aus). Sad they don't get the credit they deserve, because both are largely undemonstrative players.

what you mean also means what has been written... Ganguly is a great captain. He had developed a talented bunch of people into match winners. There is also no doubt that vvs, rahul, kumble, sehwag were the best... but the fact is simple... none can beat Sachin in batting... he was a class above all and Ganguly has raised the Indian team to a different level... nobody can take it away from him.

Sachins blind fans are so funny. Honestly Dravid at his best in tests was far more effective than sachin. Sachin is good nevertheless.
why does cricket spawn so much of hatred? why do we have to be 'against' someone to like someone. why does one have to denigrate someone to say he prefers someone else?
and that too in a frigging game played by some 5-6 frigging countries?
why can't we just ban cricket and religion from this doomed country and forget the langauge of hatred which has been sewn in our hearts for last two decades?

A1: You don't A2: How many teams play doesn't matter. What's that got to do with anything? A3: Ah, yes... banning the things you don't like. Especially when what you dislike is other people's violent dislike. Interesting thought, but perhaps... what's the word for it... hypocritical?

We never won a Test series against England in England under Ganguly. It was under Dravid in 2007, when we did it.

PEACE PEACE PEACE MR.Raza, We are all calling Dada a bad captain ok happy? Happy ?
Dada is best captain India ever had. Because Dada made India team at the moment when they were under match fixing. India was loosing evry single game. He made carrier of Shewag, Yuvraaj, Zaheer, Harbhajan... Dhoni become a captain when India was winning most of there matches.
