Hi raj thakre, fielding in the slips requires a great degree of sharp reflexes.
Running after the ball to take a catch and taking a catch at the slip require the same degree of reflexes. Each one is good in its own way and some people are suited for either of it. When u think of Indian cricket u must first consider urself an Indian first before making one's role worthless..

Mr Thakre i think definitely u r not a south indian instead speaking like a north indian speak like an indian, fielding in slips is not that easy it really requires specialist Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and few more to add they r skilled people for that. first try to know more about cricket and try to play and then comment.

non sense.... do you think fielding in slip cardon is that easy ???? fielding doesnt mean just running behind the ball and throwing it back... fielding in slip requires very quick reflexes....

u need very fast reflexes to feild in slips, and not evryone can field there. even good feilders like jonty rhodes and yuvraj singh failed in slips.

Dravid in out field I remember was equally out standing in one dayers aganist Srilankan tour of two serris back when he was always kept in square third man fence to keep Sanath in check and Sanath always used to check his shots.Dravid is a well known wicket keeper and due to this he has aquired the skill of least reaction time due to concentration.

Why Gavaskar is missing
by anil sharma on Apr 06, 2009 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

I do not understand why Rediff gives only half information. Sunil Gavaskar is the first person from India to have completed 100th catches in Test Cricket. He has 108 catches to his exchequer in 125 matches....

No other Indian?
by Sunny on Apr 06, 2009 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

No Other indian in this list..like Laxman, Azhar, gawaskar...They all stand in slips only....

Its great acheivement ...wall...its great that in record books Indian should be on top.....great job..

We wish Sachin should make all batting records too...because ponting is coming..lets sachin play test 3 more years or upto the time ponting plays...so india will hold the records....we also wish sachin make 100 of 100s, but at least he should play till ponting plays....or 3 years...

if ponting is dropped from captaincy, he will not be playing in xi ... why do you want sachin to play till ponting plays.... irrespective of records , sachin is something special.... Lara, Bradman, Sobers are all examples.....their records were broken but still they are considered as genius.... ok do not say, lara's record for highest score in one innings is still there..... that is for shewag to reply ....

Cannot compare sachin and ponting...Sachin has come to cricket 6 years earlier than ponting did...and should have had clearly 6K runs ahead of ponting...sachin has missed around 2 years due to injury and 2 more years due to bad form...to break sachin record pakistan they launched Hasan Raja...look where is he due respect to him...ponting and sachin are both greats of this beautiful game and so is Hassan Raja he should be a great in himself...maybe PCB did not support him as BCCI supported sachin....god bless to all of them

Either you guys have not played cricket or perhaps you have played gully cricket with Tennis Ball. That is the reason that you dont understand the significance of being a specialist slip fielder for a leather ball.

Try fielding at slip. I'll bet you will break 2-3 fingers of yours.

This is not a bad record to have for any test player. Just look at the list, everybody in list are exceptional test players. Most of them are known for their long innings which requires lot of concetration. I believe, Dravid is ideal test player.
If we observe carefully, most of them are austrailians and only 2 players from subcontinent. Mahela and Dravid. Point is, most of the the non subcontinent players had/have good fast bowlers which gives fielders in slip, more chances for catching. But with indian bowling attack, where most of the time spinners were major strike force, catches in slips will not br very often. This makes dravids record even more special

Great catch, but sometime you could drop the simple catch. These are one of the records not achieved by just one or two days like double century or triple century or in a single match or series or like hatrick,it requires years and very hard to come by
