Srilankan Cricket dependent on India
by Guest on Oct 27, 2008 04:54 AM  | Hide replies

In the 1980s and 90s it was India that supported Srilankan cricket including their entry into test criket. England and Australia never took their test teams there or invited Sri Lanka. Even after winning winning the world cup in 96 Srilanka were invited to play only a one off test in England in which Jayasurya, Murali and Aravinda played exceptionally well and won an improbable victory. Why is ranatunga now keen on cricket with England and not India. So much for gratefulness. Never for get ur past dude...

Whats wrong with IPL?
by Vaibhav Kumar on Oct 27, 2008 02:41 AM  | Hide replies

Whats wrong with IPL and offering money to players? This is a common practice in soccer and football leagues/clubs -they bid on players and offer them huge amount of money too. Why can't this happen in cricket? No one forced those Sri Lankan players to sign the contracts -they signed it themselves! Even Jayasurya got his form back by playing IPL matches -if it wasn't for IPL, his career was over!!
People enjoy IPL matches as they see famous players unlike ICL where you mostly see veterans or unknown players. Get a life guys, don't feel jealous of the huge money those players are making -yes I agree they don't deserve so much money but who cares if everyone enjoys the game?

i do not think anyone has a problem with IPL or the money that is doled out to players, who entertain people and hence richly (!!) deserve it ! the problem people with a contrarian view have is that BCCI should not think that they are the beginning and end of cricket and what they say is gospel. the problem people have is with the arrogance and attitude of BCCI. no one grudges players. that should not be seen as jealousy.

I dont understand what problem does BCCI have with ICL. They have forgotten that the cricket audience has made BCCI the richest board in the world. So why not let the audience decide which is better ICL or IPL. Their stand against Sri Lanka is clear sign of dicatatorship which is not good for cricket and eventaually the fans would be at loss.

I just hope the current financial recession hits BCCI too and bring their nerves back and finally they learn to respect cricket whether it is in the form of ICL or IPL.

Thats not dictatorship -thats asking someone to honor the contract they signed! Sri Lanka players signed the contract to appear in every IPL tournament but now they don't want to play? BCCI generously offered them $40 million package to cover the financial losses that will happen to them if they don't play top players on the England tour but Ranatunga's brain is as fat as his stomach so he misunderstood a good effort by BCCI -why didn't he ask the players NOT to sign the contract in the first place? Whats the use of blaming BCCI now? Pehle mana kiya nahi aur ab contract todne mein lage hain.....its all SLC's fault!

We Indians must be the only country in the world, where we defend people of our "own" ilk (be it religion, caste or region) despite their flagrant faults/crime just because they are one of our own. Anybody who has even a semblance of reason would clearly understand that BCCI is now like a poison to cricketing fraternity; it is so money rich because of fanatic fans like you that it is monolopolizing everything and assuming dictatorship roles! Dude, it is very easy to be submissive to authority and keep nodding one's head to money-bags, it takes moral conviction and character to speak the truth -- SLC was the first country to lift the bans on their ICL players.Hats off to Arjuna; you were a proud captain and a natural leader.

Thank you Ruzo for at least taking a contrarian stand.

I was wondering what the world would be if India was the richest nation rather than the US. Shudder at the thought of corrupt Indian politicians and indrustrialists running the world.

BCCI is one example of a peek into this world. I just cant understand who gives BCCI the right to ban players. Lalit Modi doesnt understand the effort it takes to make it to state/national level and all it takes is one ban to negate all the hard word done by a player. How is that fair ?

BCCI is terrible. I dont like Symond and probably deserved to be called a monkey given that he provoked Bhajji but I am very certain that Bhajji was off the hook because of BCCI.

you got the facts wrong.......initially it was decided that even if...any player signed with ipl....he will fulfill his national duties first internatinal cricket clashes with ipl.....however, now the bcci has changed it's colour fearing that if sl players backed out due to int'l commitments...so others might do the same and it's ipl may be doomed.....

Pakistanis are evil, Bangladeshis and evil , Srilankans are evil , nepalese are evil, Chinese are evil and our India is the greatest land in the world!! C'mon man , learn to call a spade , a spade even if its in your own backyard. C'mon lets admit it, BCCI has been acting like out politicians trying to control everything and banning everything who has the gall to point out their faults?

stop ipl and play cricket in Sri Lanka, right, the worst places and climate to play cricket. ranatunga can also be miffed cos he never got to play such moneyed tournaments. And these are not charity matches, where bowlers bowl loose stuff for batsman to go for sixes. Normally 20 overs cricket is played and all efforts are made to curb the rate of scoring. Adjustments is the way forward in life. More ODIs have made batting faster in Tests, 20-20 would make batting better in both ODIs and tests.

Have you ever heard the French Proverb, "Money is a good servant but a bad master"? This is a very profound statement.

Money has become a master for BCCI. The end of BCCI is nearer. What a shameless organisation this is...

The story of the goose that lays golden eggs.....something similar, the players will be so fatigued after all this 20-20 tamasha, that 50 overs ODI cricket will die a natural death and test cricket will be threatened...i see a players revolt led by Rahul Dravid, Pieterson and Flintoff......and then we can have an apex body controlled by the players whih will transcend national borders...this players association, much alike the ATP in Tennis will then control the sport in the future....and this players body will get sponsorship from corporates and the BCCI will become redundant.....

This the time to suspand this stupid Modi
by Tanoy on Oct 27, 2008 12:32 AM  | Hide replies

Lalit Stupid Modi is the cancer of world cricket. BCCI is an autonomous organization. But Those Incompetent money mongers N Srinivashan, Lalit Modi, Shashank Monohar are simply making mockery of This great game.

Just see the reasoning and Language

" Mr Modi and Mr (Niranjan) Shah were very puzzled and shocked at the attitude of Sri Lankan cricket towards the BCCI and had serious concerns with regards to some of the press statements which had been released by some SLC officials," the document stated.

"Further they were very curious to find out the hostile manner in which the SLC mentioned BCCI/IPL"

what is this? who the hell Modi and Niranjan are?

So None can speak against IPL?
Modi and his Thugs are simply misusing the Autonomy of Indian sports federation.

Now I think Indian Govt should run an investigation against those Crony. Being a part
of biggest democratic Country These bunch of criminals are seriously spoiling the relation ship with cricket playing Nations.
It seems after some days Stupid Modi will tell," India does not need test status. They will need 20-20 only."

This is the right time for all sports lovers to raise voice against stupid Modi and his thugs.

Pressure tactics by BCCI
by Manian Vasudevan on Oct 27, 2008 12:06 AM  | Hide replies

The BCCI always resort to pressuring tactics. They used to put pressure on Indian Crickets to abide by their instructions (like advertisement). They applied pressure to get the ban on Bhajji lifted. Now, they are resorting to the same route to bring Sri Lanka to their feet.

Let us see....whether Justice or financial clout wins at the end.
