No discipline now a days...
by thunne thunne on May 15, 2008 11:12 AM  | Hide replies

There seems to be no discipline in a youngster now a days. They are just getting carried away by one good hit, one good form, too much media surroundings, too much money around them, too many advertisements etc etc. They are just not doing what they are supposed to do. i.e., play good game in right spirit. Coz they are not only representing themselves, they are representing Country. One should not forget and should not get carried away. Be down to earth folks. And Sreesanth, i think BCCI should tell him also. His acts are sometimes not acceptable. He thinks himself as a super fast great bowler, whichi is not so. Think of great bowlers in the past, Sir Richard Hadlee, Our great Kapil dev, Marshall, Ambrose etc. These are the really great bowlers. All of these had one thing in common, passion and professional approach about the game. Mend your ways youngsters. Only Hard work and hard work with sincerity will give you results.

dude sreesanth has also been warned
"Sreesanth was sent a letter by the BCCI instructing him to mend his ways on the field. "[If] you do not improve your behavior, the board would be constrained to take appropriate decision," the letter, written by board secretary Niranjan Shah, stated."

Sreesanth is aggressive only in the field, he never tried to hit anybody nor abused racially.

Still he is the top most wicket player in IPL. Hats off to Sreesanth for doing weell even going thru such negative patches in his career...

Sreesanth is the worst palyer in Indian team,if takes a wicket(by god's grace), he behaves like he won the Gold medal(out of 100 crore indians) in olympics.I hate ( most of indians) him.He is a stupid and a great actor. You can also observe this while he starts every ball.
He is better to go for any film industry for a co-dancer post.

just try to learn what exactly has happened before commenting. May be you need to go thru some sites like cricinfo which are more reliable.
It says "Nanavati, a senior lawyer, said he was asked by the disciplinary committee whether the punishment was appropriate, and he gave three reasons why he felt it was. "First, Harbhajan accepted his guilt straight away and apologised to the BCCI, to Sreesanth and again, in public," Nanavati said. "Secondly, he had already been handed down a stiff punishment by the IPL in the form of a ban. And thirdly, his behaviour ever since the incident was submissive, and not aggressive - he accepted his guilt, never went on the offensive and assured that he would not repeat the offence again."
And you are accusing tendulkar, then man you can not respect anybody.
He has supported harbhajan only in Australia and that to after taking his words that he hasn't said the monkey word. And if you remember, the whole team was supporting harbhajan.

Get your facts right Mr.sb, Nanvathy told media that he got "shocked" after watching th video. Still he is allowed to play after couple of mathces. so you were expecting nanavathy a heart stroke for banning bhaji or taking strict actions????

If sachin or pawar are not the supporters, who else you can think as his supporter? Its pretty clear...

I totally agree.
In Indian Cricket today, everything is possible if you can get the blessings of Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar.
Luckily, Cricket is dying a natural death; courtesy: IPL.

5 yrs ban would have been a better solution
by Vivian Richards on May 15, 2008 10:25 AM  | Hide replies

BCCI should have banned Harbhajan at least for 5 yrs from both ODI and Test Cricket...India have better talented spinners than Harbhajan.

Sreeshanth should have been banned for atleast 2 yrs

It is not a question of banning for limited years and he (harbhajan) should have been banned for life considering the fact that he has series (as well as serious) of bad behaviour incidents under his name.

How many times he should be left off like this.
His confidence has grown to such a level of hitting on the face of a fellow player.

Actually the BCCI has to be blamed for having allowed harbhajan to gain in confidence to such a level.

Is it a reward or a punishment?
by VASUDEVAN V on May 15, 2008 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

The punishment to Harbhajan, bannning from 11 matches of the IPL tamasha and 5 inconsequential ODIs is no punishment at all. It looks more like a reward for his loyalty to some powers that be in BCCI! His offence merits a minimum ban of 2 years from all forms of cricket. He is a serial offender and shoots off his mouth every so often, besides his hand now! He is loyal to Ganguly that he often took pot shots at both Greg Chappel and Dravid and the BCCI turned the other way. Perhaps the Chairman of the Selection Committee and the BCCI wanted him to insult Dravid as much as possible, this present so called punishment being just reward for that! It is a mockery of justice and everyone, including BCCI and Harbhajan know that. Some say that Harbhajan has been punished twice for the same offence. The fact is he has never been punished for any of his offences in the past also and the present punishment is more a reward than a `punishment'. He certainly has some God Father taking care of his interests. Now the youngsters watching the show know that they can slap their opponents on the field and get away scot free. What an example BCCI has set!

Dude its actually a reward with punishment,
Now he can play after 5 matches, but the only thing is he will be walking in the wall where he has to balance himself from both sides.
Not even single mm of fluctuation will end up his career. Always a threat for his career.
Its good decision. The same way the mallu great gorilla also shud be punished.

Yes well said but harbhajan (and any indian player) do not have the guts to slap a white player because of greater physical strength lest they get their body fractured.

thats why harbhajan choose a tiny Sreesanth

A few words of advice to mallu sreesanth

1. get a haircut, u r not malinga..not anyday
2. include protiens in ur diet..u need to beef up if u want to spear batsmen with missiles..u look like chicken little now!
3. stop grimacing and barring ur teeth whenever u get hit of take a rare wicket...its just plain gorilla style
4.take tips from bowlers like pollock or mcgrath on how to bowl line and length and the ocassional bouncer...dont do a no ball
5. stop licking the media..ur reverse pschology tactic of calling bhajji "my elder brother" and gaining nore sympathy for you got bhajji additional bans..while bhajji is no saint u r not a swami aiyappa either.
6.if u follow this mantra, u'll inmprove as a bowler and as an individual!

Since you are trying to improve him as a bowler, I suggest that you offer your services as a bowling coach.
By the way, do you remember his performance in the first Test Match against South Africa when India toured there last? I tell you this guy can bowl. He is not in the Indian Team because of any Godfather. He is there because he is better than other competitors. Nontheless, he needs a course in Behaviour Management.

its attitude matters in the ground

I am not sure of Pollock, but I can say this about McGrath. He would have taken about half the wickets he eventually ended up with, had he not been a scientific sledger.

The five match ban on Harbhajan is of course a joke. Players have been judged more harshly for lesser offences. I have always been advocating life ban on hin.
Anyway, Cricket is never going to be the same after IPL.
Harbhajan and Sreesanth are never going to be the same either. I guess, Cricket in its new format will find new set of spectators as well. The traditionalists like me simply cannot tolerate IPL.

Bajji
by Joseph Rodricks on May 15, 2008 09:05 AM  | Hide replies

It is disappointing to know that Harbajansingh is banned for five matches. This punishment is too little.
He has belittled the image of India and made us bow our heads in shame and has proved beyond doubt that he misbehaved with Australians as well. He is fit to be a roudy and his picture should be exhibited in the roudy list accross the Police stations of the country.
The BCCI should have banned him for life as he has earned disgrace to the fair name of India.
He is the symbol of National Shame. Joseph Rodricks.

another goondu to escape punishment is sreesanth..he is the real villian..his antics in south africa were amusing but after a while it got irritating since his antics overshadowed his bowling..making monkey faces at symonds on banging the pitch with his fists..he is a real embaarassment..
Bhajji should have been warned and let off..afterall he admitted his fault and apologised..as a bowler, i think bhajji is better than sreesanth who should go back to his village and catch fish.

his face never uses the muscles to smile but only to stare. I was the one who got a autograph signature from him in the Chennai hotel way back in 2002 jan if my memeory is right and I can remember he had a snubby look.

It is a fact that man needs to use 72 muscles to stare but ony 7 to smile and ONLY man can smile NOT animals.

Harbhajan banned for five ODI's
by subir sengupta on May 14, 2008 10:33 PM  | Hide replies

Everything in BCCI is in confusion. No body knows what to do, the committee makes a simple matter complicated and in the end gives lots of unnecessary explanations. Harbhajan is clear cut guilty of serious offence and should have been punished severly. Where the question of his confessing the guilt and based on that he is leniently punished, comes from? I think the people involved in running different sections of BCCI, are mere incompetent.
