Tony Greg on ICl
by Muralidhar Kandadai on Mar 18, 2008 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

Truth has come out from the horse's mouth, Tony says Subhash chandra was unlucky with timing of ICL, he thougt because of Indian world cup debacle all the major players wud join ICL,but Tony says ZEE was unlucky Because India won T20 WC after World cup debacle, that means Zee and members of ICL wanted India to lose very badly so that they can take that opportunity to build a alternative league, which now has failed. Now they also want to run a parallel cricket to ICC which contradicts all their previous statements, where these guys said they want improve indian cricket and indian talent all these nonsense. ICL is born out of frustration by ZEE, now they are planning to divide the cricketing world.By forming something like International cricket league.

You said: ..that means Zee and members of ICL wanted India to lose very badly?

Losing and especially very badly losing is strong trait of indian cricket - at least so far. Nobody has to wish for it. It happens by default. Winning requires lot of hardwork and that we do occasionally. Check the facts and you will know.

Tony is very much correct in saying "I've always thought that India was an underperformer. Not just slightly an underperformer, but a huge underperformer.. India should be doing what Australia and West Indies [Images] have done on a regular basis. They should really be daylight and the rest. So I've always had this feeling that India, if they can really harness their combination of enthusiasm and size, they would be such a good cricket team it would be unbelievable."

finally true words from Tony Greig

Aah it's great to see someone come out and speak the truth. He has never mentioned developing young talent etc, which people like Kiran More keep ranting about. He spoke of the real motives behind ICL, Zee's desperation to broadcast cricket on Zee Sports(a near defunct sports channel) and their motive to cash in on the discontent among people after the World Cup in the carribean.Cheers Tony, finally u have come out with your(Zee's)plan of making money out of the cricket market. It's nothing wrong and infact this is where I find fault with the BCCI's attitude.Cricket is not your own property BCCI.Every one has a right to make money out of it.That's exactly what Zee is doing and best of luck to them.Tony also speaks about how opening up new academies is a distant dream for the ICL.Good on you mate.Go and instill some sense into Kiran More who goes on and on talking about academies.

Tony Greg is the most senseless joker around in world cricket...
by on Mar 18, 2008 09:45 PM  | Hide replies

I happened to watch this ICL match a few days back to hear a comment from uncle Tony saying that India should be playing better cricket more often as her population is huge and that there are so many cricket lovers. Thankfully this statement was immediately disregarded by Madan Lal and Atul Wasan, but I think they should have done more.
Such a comment from a foreigner (with the stature as an ex-english captain)gives the impression that what he meant to say was India is a pathetic cricketing playing nation. I don't follow from which part of England does this guy come from but his comments are far from the realms of rationalism. If any of you guys have heard his commentry in criket mathes on tv (last 5ish years n more) they are almost always against indian players and either pro-aussie/pro-south africa/pro-all white people country nation(u name it).surprisingly this guy likes pakistan for what reason i dont know.

In the above statement of his why does he forget his own country England. They've been playing this sport for the last 131 years (officially)and yet haven't been able to consistently dominate the game ever. How many world cups have they one..and thesedays who plays cricket in England. And what were all uncle Tonys teams doing when he was the captain. Indian media/tv channels like Zee shud boycott this joker from anything related to cricket (aleast indian cricket). Take more qualified comments from distinguished players like Kapil Dev or Kiran More instead.

Ban Tony Grieg

Hi,

This great Tony Greig who takes such a high moral stance about players rights was a great proponent of racism in his time.

He is a racist South African - he cannot stomach the fact that Indians are doing well. He was the man who uttered the grovel word and finallly did grovel.

Tony - take it or leave it. BCCI and by default Indians rule cricket.

The rules are going to be changed shortly.

Fast bowlers cannot bowl more than 1 ball per over, at over 145 kph.

Usage of the abusive word "mate" would be level 3 offense. Imagine Aussies chuckling ....

The ICC panel of umpires/referrees would be dominated by Asians.

First and foremost the laws of the game woudl be rewritten in Metric dimensions - no more 22 yards - smacking of ossified, petrified, anochonoistic, patronising condescending outlook of the Brits.

It would be henceforth be 20 meters (approx - 19.8) and so on.

The laws of the game would be written and articulated in multiple languages - primarily - hindi, urdu, bengali, tamil, marathi, sinhala english with no language holding primacy over another.

Tony if u want stick on with the dough Subash chandra is doling u or u r not welcome to my country.

Absolutely wrong. Tony Greig was never a racist and it seems our people fancy calling every bloke a racist as if they have worked with them over the years. I have been watching cricket for more than 40 years and it is quite cynical that our young blokes passing commnets without studying the problem in detail - this is reverse racism and we seem to have too many. Any comment/ suggestion by former great cricketers if called racist comment, there is no end. The present bunch of younger generation seems to be carried away by emotional aspects more than thinking interms of logical point of view. Cheers.

But, todays generation is crap.. if someone spit at them, they spit them back and also whack their butt with the cricket bat... chi chi chi.. what youngesters we have...! :-|

Cheeluji, on a different note think abt this..! Aggression is the word of today! Cricket is no longer a gentleman's game...! In fact it never was.. Aussies and the English were racists, sledging bunch of cricketers thru out the history of the game... its now that the ppl retaliate in the same style, that everything has become public...

I think that the present day youngesters shld continue the same way... But yeah! Most imp - they shld perform and win....!

So dont u worry too much abt reverse racism and things like that... and stop worshipping white butt in the pretext of worshipping greatness.... ;-)

Nobody rules cricket and nobody should be allowed to. Indian cricket team can be world no 1 and they can propose changes as time goes along, they can stand up for themselves if umps act against them, but they should never rule the game. Look at football, Europe generates all the money, but does it rule the game. Brazil still dominates, because the purity of the game has never been infiltrated. Greig is right in that BCCI has no right to deny people in ICL an opportunity to play cricket for their country, and lead people to play in IPL rather than for their country. It was shocking to read Fazeer's column where he said Gayle and others may not play for tests against Aussies. Whats that about? If these guys wouldnt play test cricket, then the game as we know will die. BCCI hasnt understood the implications of stuffing the IPL in the crammed up schedule and is solely after money. If you go and find everything that Tony did ever in his life and conclude hes bad then you are digressing form the topic. Btw Im absolutely convinced Bhajji and the Mumbai crowd made racist taunts and in todays world thats more despicable than anything done in the 70s. And those advocating racism do not understand the implications. Its only a matter of time, you divide the country.

Tony Greig is indeed racist. He referred WI team as niggers and said will make them quiver. That ignited WI team and they went on to win the series.

we indians love cricket bcoz it gives us something to cheer about.we r so frustrated in our daily lives that when we see yuvraj hitting sixes or sachin scoring a century we temporarily forget our miseries and get engrossed in the game.thats why when we lose we dont take it sportingly but play the blame game.we r emotionally involved with the game.

Tony says 'The minute a cricketer is a non-contracted cricketer, he can't play in the IPL.'

Tony, it doenst take Einstein to figure out why BCCI has put this clause.

If, IPL was open, than all the team top start were playing leaving their own country. Cos, there is a clause mentioned by you in IPL, which is very huge money for the players, the country boards are and little comfort with IPL. Well it will take only 1 min for the unorganised BCCI to remove this clause, and see how the world will be dude!
