Thanks for such a nice statistics ,shows Tean India is getting better and better.I feel if we throw dirty politicians away from the BCCI board, and let a Technical with management team manage the show, and let the players and ex players do the talking, hope statistics will show steep rise.

Yes this statistics shows that major teams like England
and Carribean are losing interest in cricket and minnows
and tentative teams like Bangladesh are coming in.

No wonder soon India will have all victories

If they continue to play against Hongkong, UAE, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Netherlands, and all countries new to cricket, they can make it even better.

See the Numbers that indians media hide they have written break even but have hided that after playing the maximum matches than any other country they have achieved this .Its same t like they hype about IIT's andc IIM's.They give the hiring figures but they dont give that at what level the IIM grads are hired .They are hired 2 level below an US b school grad .The media even hide what happened to all those hirings after a year or two nearly half of them are asked to relocate to India office or leave the job due to Non Performance. In India it is the numbers which matter Not the quality. It is true that our grandfathers have produced in millions and tons and so we are a huge market so if Vijay mallya pays one million to Indian Goverment to hike excise on wines and beer then u will be forced to drink a substandard Kingfisher as Heineken or Calrsburg cost 3 times more than a Kingfisher. If 50 Lkh or .5% Illeterate Indians sees Govinda or Sharukhs crap movies then alsio they run in super profits...Its Quantity that matters not Quality or Exposure.

Well see the table properly. No other country has played more mtches than team India. And people at Rediff call it "A Great Achievement".

In fact it is a Great Achievement, that the team took so long.

This is not the first time!
by Navin Shahane on Jun 30, 2008 02:57 PM

When India toured West Indies, under the Captaincy of Dravid (some two years ago), we had achieved this feat! So, naturally, this is not the first time we have done this .... although it might be good to hear, it is not something to be proud of, as all the major cricket playing nations have achieved this, India as such is only in the "bottom half" and not in the "top half".

I do not understand what the author of the article means to say by "Among the regular ODI-playing countries, only Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa and England have won more games than they lost, while New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Kenya all have lost more games than they won". South africa, who started playing one-day cricket once again from 92/93 has already overtaken us.

come on rediff give some credible articles! We seriously doubt your integrity now-a-days!!

India the great
by aswath on Jun 30, 2008 02:51 PM  | Hide replies

India with the second largest population is doing great in games like cricket, kabaddi, carroms, billirads, and snooker. Why can't we do well in games played by major countries, like football, hockey, volley ball, basket ball , tennis etc.? We can feel good only if we do as well as other Asian countries like China, Korea, Japan etc. in sports and games? Test cricket and ODI should be banned, and only T20 cricket should be allowed to entertain indian public.

INDIA finally break even
by debangshu nandy on Jun 30, 2008 02:43 PM  | Hide replies

i feel there is some statistical mistake in the table given with the breakup. You can see that total win comes to (18 28 250)=296 & total loss (30 43 260)=333 & in all sector no of win is less then no of loss so it suggests that india won more matches than loss before 1983 world cup which is very unlikely. If i am wrong, will be happy if any one rectify me.

Please read the table like this:

Till 1983 world cup: losses = 30

Between 1983 world cup and 1985 B&H: losses= 13 ( total= 43)

Between 2002-2003 world cup and 1985 B&H: losses: 217
(total= 260)

Hey debangshu nandy,

The number 28 in 'Won' column includes the 18 in the same column, 250 includes 28, and 328 includes 250. Same is for 'Lost' column also. So, we can't add up like 18 28 250 etc. Compare 'Won' and 'Lost' column at a particular instance, like 'after 2002-03 World Cup'.

Figures for other sides would have been useful
by Shailesh N on Jun 30, 2008 02:36 PM

A simple table of wins and losses for other teams would have been useful to this discussion rather than just saying these countries have more and these countries less. Don't you think?
