Quick ending to test matches
by India on Jul 28, 2008 03:43 PM

With the new system of challenging umpires' decisions matches will end quickly. 5 day matches will be history. Matches will end in 3 to 4 days. Draws will also be history unless rain intervenes. As for Indian batsmen being masters of spin, well that is also history now. Yuvraj Singh must be feeling relieved now. He is not the only Indian batsmen who does not know how to play quality spin bowling, Murali's chucking notwithstanding.

We have to find ways to tackle Murali, Mendis: Kumble
by A Singh on Jul 28, 2008 02:07 PM

What a great discovery! Kumble has really been quick in gauging the problem.
Unfortunately, he is short of time. He has to find answers to a problem nobody has been able to fathom so far, and he has to do it in 2 days.
It seems Indians play Spin really well.

use common sense approach and have some guts..
by Manoj on Jul 27, 2008 09:25 PM

Its very disappointing but surely not surprising that indian lost the match mainly because all batsmen despite having skills ,lacked in guts and out of the box thinking .Well if i were one of the indian batsmen , i would have taken guard at least one or one and half foot outside the crease and mauled these two spinners instead of they mauling me.Its simple logic that spinners are effective only if the ball is allowed to pitch and as they are slow ,its easy to face them standing a foot and half outside the crease as well.It doesn't take a player of over 100 tests to realise this, its pure logic man and common sense and of course require some guts..imagine if atleast two of the explosive indian batsmen like sehwag and ghambir adopt this strategy, there would be a real run fest..hope the indian contingent read this..good luck..

the reasons india lost so badly
by Bunty on Jul 27, 2008 02:55 PM

1. toss was lost ( this is important)
2. too many catches dropped
3. bad bowling
4. bad captaincy
5. lack of application by batsmen
6. sehwag's failure and lack of luck in 2nd innings.

referral system
by sai prasad on Jul 27, 2008 01:51 PM  | Hide replies

As Muralitharan rightly pointed out, there would be no more excuses for the defeats though kumble is yet to appeciate it. In addition, I do not understand why England did not take to this system saying this would make umpires' powerless. It is a bit amusing. After all, the object at the end of the day is not to make umpires' powerful but to ensure fairness in the play being played to the extent possible as it was very easy to see how prone the umpires are to commit mistakes and very naturally too, it is always improbable to arrive at clean decisions everytime. So the referral system should stay on and even the hot spot technology too should be invoked at more critical ones.

The referral system in the first match itself proved that it is useless. How could you explain Dilshan being given not out after snicking one when he was rightly given out before and Sehwag out with half the ball landing outside legstump and worst of all the ball hitting the front leg first and that too outside the line of the stumps? I see nothing wrong in Kumbles measured reaction that too when he was at the receiving end.

In that case what have you got to say about Tendulkar's and Dravid's wicket.Hope we don't want india to win this way by surviving the otherwise chances. Also, you cannot say with affirmition that Shewag was not out though it can be debated. And you feel there is no wrong for Kumble's measured reaction being at the receiving end but that does not take away the fact.So the referral system is here to stay. Don't you see that the same system can prevent player's like Tendulkar from Buckonered which can mean vital.

Mr. Kumble, you have also to find a way to bowl.
By blaming batsmen, do not hide your defficiency.

Lack of Play
by Krishna Sachin on Jul 27, 2008 12:24 PM  | Hide replies

Its because of Lack of Play. You cant expect a man comming and playing after 6 months or more in international match and score 100 runs. Its beacuse of routine changes in the team selection. Check Sachin, Ganguly,Dravid,Kumble,Zaheer,Karthik all are out of international match for atleast 3-6 months. Even is you select yuvraj, raina or pathan this is all going to happen. based on one match no body can complain because Dravid is rated as all time top test player. We had not seen dravid got dismissed untill he wish to. But this test its beacuse of lack of touch. Give time its sure they will come back. Its too early to write off a team having batsman upto 8 who having atleast 1 century in test cricket. The only thing give some chances to in form players like Kaif, Balaji, Agarkar & Badrinath

If our players play after a gap a of a couple of months, then it lack of match practice and again if they play consistently without any gap, then it too much cricket which has affected their performnce. This is the common xcuse we have when we perform badly...

Just think of mcgrath or warne when they just come in even after a long gap and perform brilliantly...that is greatness, dear friend. When dhoni and company were beaten in the asis cup, everybody was clamouring for sachin and company as though they would hammer mendis all around the park. A new kid on the block had our superstars on the run!

Again as regards balaji or agarkar when did they perform well in the recent past? I am amused..well, yes, badrinath could be given a chance as he a good batsmen and a fine fielder.
