Call Off Tour!
by Reza Arif on Jan 28, 2008 06:27 PM

If Bhajji did say something and there is concrete evidence .. then Bhajji can be banned .. but u will also hv to ban Procter & Co. for banning him without taking a look at evidence ..

Whr did this evidence suddenly crop up from?? Is there a chance of it being doctored/tampered?

Also, I dont mind if the tour is called off .. as Indians will anyway fare poorly with Laxman, Dravid & Ganguly not there in the ODI team .. Yuvi, Dhoni etc.. are in poor form and are not technically sound enough to win us the matches...

Kumble should be made captain lot earlier
by Seema Shetty on Jan 28, 2008 06:23 PM

Congradulations for Indian team. One man who stands tall in the series is none other than Anil Kumble. He is a born leader and a really fighter. He handled the situation and captaincy with much maturity. If he is the captain for next 2 years, India will become the No.1 team no doubt. As he is encouraging and grooming the young players a lot, India will be in the No.1 team in the next decade. I wish him all the best.

Why r u jumping to conclusions? Firsly, "monkey" is not a racist word and Bhajji only commented in a lighter vein. Secondly, there is no way to prove he said that. Thirdly, Aus media had doctored such evidences in the past. So, there is all possibilty that the "fresh" evidence is not genuine.

Why not use the audio visual recordings and change Bucknor's decisions? When that is not permitted why should suddenly technology become important?

BCCI is afraid!!!
by Srini on Jan 28, 2008 05:53 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI and the team show the confidence with Baajji but if everything is correct and perfect and nothing the hide then they shouldn%u2019t do these non-sense talks. They should welcome any evidence to prove that Baaji didn%u2019t do that but looks like they are bit afraid that Baajji might have done something wrong but hiding it.

Come on guys, we can%u2019t have two rules...

Why should an Indian player have a black spot on him, when there was nothing serious. Ponting only diverted public attention to a non-issue, so that their own misbehaviour and poor umpiring remains hidden.

For the simple reason that the way this evidence is put forward casts doubts over its own genuineness. Its not new that hawk's eye was even doctored by Aus media recently. Audio/Video recordings cannot be considered as an evidence, specifically when no such evidence was found immediately after the match.

We Indians are coming out BIG fool in entire affair. Our short sight has not made any other issue cropped up. Look at there media, they came up with so many articles, viz. Max. punishment to Indians & Paki players, where as there players are 4-6 th rank.
Even we should had asked for reversing of results of Sydney test, which I shouted lot in this forum. Even within 5 mints of Sydney loss. Now if we had raised this issue at that time, aussies would be under pressure. In fact we allowed B.Hogg escape punishment, so naturally his negative image is not out. We have been to generous, BCCI & Kumble Gandhigiri has led us to this situation.
Now what sort of consultancy you can get / give on telephone ? Is BCCI is saying you can do business with remote control????
This is just an politics of money making for near & dear one of BCCI officers. Who is interested in Indian pride ?? BCCI is not concern it seems.

Bhajji should not be banned!
by Abhay T on Jan 28, 2008 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

1. Firstly, the original reports suggested there was no camera/microphone evidence available. So, how come this "fresh" evidence has emerged out of nothing? Why was it not available earlier and no media channel attempted to use "best" available recording before making hundreds of hours of analysis about this incident? All media report clearly accepted the fact that there was "No such evidence".
2. Even if it can be proved that he used those words, he should not be banned. Firstly, Monkey does't represent any specific race and so is not a racist word. It is a general word that represents childish or mischievous behaviour and certainly a far better word than calling someone 'bastxxx" ( a word that indeed suggest a person's origin). Monkey is merely a simple word and as all human beings share their genetic origin with monkeys, it cannot be linked to any specific race. From the available reports and Sachin's comments, it only appears that Harbhajan was talking in a ligher vein. Ponting used it only to divert people's attention from their own misbehaviour and poor umpiring.

I don't think so. If you make fun of somebody, based on their origin or their looks, then it is considered racist. If you see a black man on the street and say "Hey there blacky", that is considered racist without any doubt. When north indians see south indians they usually call them "Madrasi". That is racist. So if Bhajji did call Symmonds a monkey then the ICC has every right to ban him.
Just to tell you, I'm no aussie fan. I'm a proud Indian and hate the way the aussies won the sydney test. That result should have been annulled. I hope the Indians teach the australians a lesson by winning the ODI series.
