in hindsight, the aussie team and their media will be looked at as being sore losers! great! its as if they are the only ones who have the right to victory. when it mattered most, indians struck. they were halted twice on the tracks at 16. thats sweet. very very sweet.

Foul means do not always pay
by Padmanabhan S on Jan 20, 2008 05:30 PM  | Hide replies

The WACA stadium at Perth was considered so fast that no one gave India a chance to beat the Aussies there. Brett Lee was on record as saying that he was licking his lips at the prospects of bowling at Perth. But, here too, there was a well laid out plan. Australia had to play and win the Sydney Test to equal its own world record of 16 successive wins. And, Sydney had always been India%u2019s favourite hunting ground. They were so scared of a defeat and resorted to all foul things to ensure a win for themselves. And to make sure that the 17th successive match is also won, Australia had deliberately got the WACA wicket prepared to suit the spinners also. Their idea was that India would elect to field only, in case it won the toss and if Australia won the toss, it would elect to bat. In either case, Ricky Ponting thought that Australia would bat first and India would have to play the last innings on a turning wicket. They knew too that India would not pick up any specialist spinner for the Perth match. But, Anil Kumble is made of a different mettle. He chose to bat on winning the toss and that had upset the plans of Ricky Ponting. It appeared as though he dug his own grave. Right from the Sydney fiasco, he had to face humiliation and that continued at Perth too. In the process, the Aussies had to give up their usual energy tonic, called %u2018sledging%u2019 and that became India%u2019s strength.
Adopting foul means may ensure success for sometime, but not forever. Ricky Ponti

absolutely. remember the ashes series ? when they lost, the aussie team was criticized for being nice, and not take sledging to newer heights. sledging is part of their arsenal. take that away, they are mortals.

Aussies - they are out ... and gone soon
by M.V. Subramanian on Jan 20, 2008 05:26 PM  | Hide replies

Aussies are out very soon from the top. They dont have the type of guys who can replace langer, warne or mcgrath or gillespie.Ponting,Hayden,Hussey and Gilchrist are the next in line to retire in the coming years. Then there is a void which cannot be filled irrespective of their structure. They cannot win without help from Umpires. All these years, they threaten the umpires with the appeals. The same type of appeal if a asian makes, they are called by Match refereee and fined. Ponting was not banned even after claiming a catch on the bounce and appealing and maintaining it was clear, when the world saw where the ball was.He was not even called, but the same match referee banned Rashid Latif in 2003, when he appealed for a bounce catch against bangladesh and he was a captain. So captains of each continent have a different rule in the ICC Books. Now just becos they have lost in Perth, they are not able to take it and start all this nonsense. They are going to lose the adelaide test too and their rankings are also under threat.

well, its for others to stand up and be counted. top teams like SA is not taking the battle to their turf. its only India who have challenged them. sri lanka, pakistan, SA, england, new zealand or a weakedned west indies can beat australia for sure, they have to push really hard and do it.

Australia can only win by cheating n sledging.
by Firoz Ansari on Jan 20, 2008 05:23 PM  | Hide replies

Now the media are supporting becuase they came to know that australia can only win by cheating and sledging. no surprise seeing this attitude.

rightly said Sunil Gavaskar that some mental player can bang one of the Australian, and it seems that this will happen soon, beacuse world has come to know that cheating is the main weapon of australian's victory, and now other teams will be more caution on this matter.

so be prepared Aus to be banged bu some one.

i sure hope so! they are a good unit for sure, but the other teams seem to have given up rather easily. take the fight to them and beat them at the game. like , now, it seems the aussie team and their media is not only bad at admitting defeat, they are sore losers. naah na aaye angan teda. now they know the dance/ naach, but they sure needed a bouncy wicket for them to win, wow, since when was a pitch totally required for someone who's regarded themselves as invincibles/ unbeatable ? sore losers ? you bet.

When sledging stops Australia winning stops
by Fredrick Ebenezer on Jan 20, 2008 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

The Auatralians were not allowed to sledge. That has been there weapon all this time. When ICC took that weapon away, there weekness is clearly seen. Now the aussies media is crying like a baby whose pacifier is pulled out.

Australia, if you are the real champian, prove your winning streak with out sledging. I don't think you will winn 3 matches in a row.

just watch australia beat the dayllights out of indian jokers in the next match. and in 50 50 version, they are invincible. it will be a washout."

apurva... this is india's moment of glory. theyve halted the bid to become the most winning team. this is as good as it gets. if you are unable to digest that fact its your problem. the aussie whingers are sore. we always knew their media was part of their sledging campaign. now they have confirmed that they are sore losers as a nation! (since the whole cohort of journalist seem to hate the thought of an indian victory)

May be the Aussies will beat the daylights out of us, as Apurva says, but they have lost something that is extremely hard to get...they have lost our respect and are no more than a band of cheats masquerading as cricketers!
Three cheers to Kumble for conducting himself as thorough gentleman, something these Aussies will never ever understand!

Nose-Cut for Arrogant Aussies!
by PREMNATH NATARAJAN on Jan 20, 2008 04:27 PM

Aussies not only want to WIN AT ALL COSTS but also never like to accept defeat gracefully and pick holes in the opponents victory (Is this sportsmanship spirit???). That is why even Aussie media says that it prefers Uncivilized behavior to win (probably it wants its players to continue the traditional behavior installed by their convict forefathers)rather than gentleman conduct. The whole world knows what is true sportsmanship. Uncivilized victories may be only boasted within Australia but none of their players will gain any popularity in the outside world. Aussie Media should remember CRICKET IS NOT local game FOOTY to play the way they want to. It is an International game governed by Fair play rules. Aussie media is blaming India about financial power. It forgot that Aussies have been able to maintain their winning streak not just purely by 11 players performance but also due to the support given by the 12th, 13th and 14th members respectively(Umpires, Match Referee)in the form of controversial decisions which was more than often handed out to the visiting teams.

well I live in Australia and this "the Courier mail" is a stupid Journalas considred here.
The Daily Telegraph is much better and a reputed journal and treated the 'Aussie Defeat" well and unbiased.
