That's just an absurd line of reasoning. So by your logic Sachin should be dropped from the team since he was a captain also. And lets apply your argument to the test team... that would mean dropping Sachin, Sourav and Dravid. Heck.. you may be on the team next at this rate!

Its not Team India. Its team BCCI. Why do u huys forget that BCCI is a totally private body. U can go ahead and build a team of ur own ... if u have the money that is...Teams like aus have the support of their prime minister as well. cuz its a professionally run governing body.... not by some bunch of jokers as in the case of BCCI

Seniors Halla Bol

Have a say in what is happening around. If seniors really thinks that by axing them the selectors are doing good for the Indian team, then the should retire. But if they do not feel so, they should ask the question. At the dawn of their career, how much is at stake anyways, some few crore rupees!! But have pride in what you do and ask the question, bcoz it is the cricket - the game you love, you started playing for the country and was not for the money and if this hurting cricket, speak up. Sachin, I have never seen you taking a lead in any of the matter, whether it was axing of dravid or axing of Ganguly. Your word counts and speak atleast once for your co-player with whom you have played lot of cricket.

I absolutely agree with Mr. Vengsarkar on his opinion on " keeping the future in sight". Hence, I would say, we should fire Dilip Vengsarkar keeping in our mind the future of "Selection Committe". He is old and has been proved again and again a completely uselss. We should give Ganguly a chance to be the selector and look for the future.

Then see the future in wisdom. Not in some regionalist motif. A bunch of young star will fail miserably with a proper guidance from seniors. That has been proved in the past world cup and will be proven again if Dravid, Sourav and Kumble are not included in the team. Dhoni is the stupidest captain India ever has

In an interview Vengsarkar has stated the following 'At the moment, we have to think about the future, so that when we think two years hence, we know how we are going to build the team' justifying Rahul and Saurav being dropped. How old is Sachin? If Rahul and Saurav are dropped to make ways for youngsters and not for any specific reason then why is Sachin in the team?Ridiculous!!!

Seriously man.. how can you compare sachin with anyone. dada is dropped that is the sad thing as he is in the form of his lifetime and because we need to teach arrogant ponting a lesson and that we can only do when we have the best team in the field and keeping dada out is insanity. I dont think dravid deserve a place with his current form.

And I dont think we should regional angle to this.

If form is the key concern, how can Dhoni be in the test team, he is neither a good batsman and regarding his wicket keeping skills, brupp lets not waste time regarding it, kaarthick is a good keeper and a better batsmen never got his due to the batting rotation system, and yeah is a great fileder at least in indian standard.
God save indian cricket from the mess.

I wonder how seniors must be feeling in the team. They know that they are still better than the young talent. Its not that the young talent was not given a chance, they have been given ample of opportunity to play around this trio but how many has succeeded? Dhoni is great, Yuvraj is great and so does the other young talent, but do they have the calibre to fill in those shoes. 20-20 win is great, but we are talking abt consistency. How much Dhoni has scored since then, How much Yuvi has scored since then. Mind well if in last yr, if it was not Sachin and Gangulys bat and Zaheers bowling, we would have some negative record to close out 2007. I understand rotation policy, but that could be 2 games or so not the entire series. I think, the senior should show their protest by excusing themselves from the 4th test. What ever may b the reason.

By Lakhmi Reddy,

I agree with Upendrachar, because sachin also 34 yrs old like dravid nd sourav then why dont they sack sack sachin if they really want youth team. This is what the bloody politics in our BCCI of India. They are saying they r not good fielders but i dont know the newly selected players will fight with aussise bowlers. They should try these when our team is subcontinental series. its simply rediculous.

Dropping of Ganguly
by VB Dhar on Jan 22, 2008 09:30 PM  | Hide replies

I do not think Ganguly has been dropped. He is sure to come back in the opening slot in the next series. He has only made way to give chance to some of the genuinely talented and some imposters to prove themselves. Needless to say, while a few will come off in flying colours, some others will lose their shine and get exposed like moradabadi utensils. There could not have been a better opportunity than this try series to make a test of talents. Vasant kalah samprapte, kakah, kakah, pikah, pikah (Sanskrit).Ganguly will then come back at his usual position. If u disagree, just u wait.

Dhoni is a great player and a great captain and plays for the country , ganguly only plays for himself
by Saurabh Chopra on Jan 22, 2008 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

The team should always be selected with the aim to win not to pacify egos. Dhoni can hit the ball for a boundary or a six at will, so can Yuvraj and Utthappa. sachin too can dominate the proceedings. ganguly plays well only when the bowling or & the opposition is average,or some days when he is in a good mood, but his good is not really that good enough. ganguly gets players especially sachin run out so often, Ganguly doesnt have an iota of team spirit, gangulys attitude breaks the group dynamics of the Indian Cricket team. Ganguly plays well but not well enough according to the international standards of the game, Dhoni Utthapa and yuvraj may not have that many fifties and hundreds to their name because they come down the order when Ganguly and dravid have eaten up all the balls and there are very few balls to score the runs. If sent up the order they will definately score much higher than Ganguly & or Dravid. Also fielding of the youngsters is amongst the best on the world, ganguly in comparison is not only average but also negative in attitude i.e. he doesnt really want the ball to come to him, no surprise that he drops catches so often that too the crucial ones

What international standard are you talking about? did Ganguly scored his 2,000 /- runs in some other planet? Yuvi, Dhoni, Uthappa has long way to go to prove their caliber. Uthappa even does not deserve a place this time. Badrinath, Pujara, Kaif, Parthiv have all performed much better than Uthappa in the recent Ranji matches. BCCI must explain why are these players not selcted beforeUthappa, Dinesh, Rohit?

Note that Ganguly has scored approximately 18-19,000 runs in international matches that include Test and ODIs. He is the one who taught Indian players to be aggressive against Aussies.

Who is running BCCI - Vengsarkar, Niranjan Shah or Dhoni?
by Susobhan Ghosh on Jan 22, 2008 07:52 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is a young captain, do not know how much weigtage does his suggestions carry in selecting the team. It should be Vengsarkar's call when knowledge of other selectors Jagdale and Biswal is really poor and questionable. Biswal in particular is useless and most unqualified for the position. The question remains if Vengsarkar been sold out to BCCI.

Ganguly is the third highest socorer in the last 13 months in one-dayers, and behind only to Sachin and Yuvraj. Dhoni is right behind Ganguly in the average, and Rahul follows Dhoni. Ganguly recently scored at a slightly lower striking rate, but one should not forget that he was keeping the wicket in tact in his end so that the other (gulli-danda players) players Yuvi and Dhoni can come and slaughter the tired bowlers in slogging overs. It did work in the last few series very well, so why disturb the combination. Players like Uthappa, Rohit, Dinesh are yet to prove that they can replace Ganguly and Dravid. Moreover based on the recent performances in the Ranji trophy players like Kaif, Badrinath, Parthiv, Pujara have much better records than those of Rohit and Dinesh. So why are those not included in the team ahead of Rohit and Dinesh. BCCI needs to do lot of soul seaarching and explaining, and sooner is the better. Such injustices met out to players who brought laurels to the country can not be ignored. It may not only divide the country, it may ruin the BCCI as well, and at the same time the cricket fans may also
