Government must interfere and set an example by asking BCCI to return the money received from public to the exchequer. Cricket may be stopped just like racing in some parts of the country. It will do more harm now than never if we continue like this. Ultimately it is no use blaming Naxals.
It's a shame on the part of the Cricketers all over the world to get purchased by some foolish industrialists and cine stars. When people in India are dying of poverty and do not have money for two times a meal, why this much amount is to be spent on the cricketers. No cricketer is playing for their country free of cost. What is the difference between a prostitutes who sell their bodies for the sake of survival and the cricketers who sell themselves just for money. Both are doing the same work. The law of the land should apply to everyone and not to one particular individual. The Government should ban such sort of buying by the industrialists and cine stars who will make their black money white. Instead, Govt. should collect these amounts from the industrialists/cine stars/cricketers and use it for the national building purpose.

Dear Prabhakarrao, you are absolutly right..Some people is ready to do any type of work for a plate of meal. But here, the Goverment is also giving support to the people who have millions and billions...Nobody is here for the poor people.

ever heard of slavery? if EPL, LLL, PPP do it, does it become legitimate?? what mohan says is still right

Lets see guys, this is a very big bet, BCCI is playing officially. If this is not so successfull, BCCI may loose the credibility as well as interest in such championships. If anybody have, pls share the success/failure of ICL?

I am stunned at the ignorance and simplistic view of Sujata Mohan. Slavery means that you work for No Pay, uncertain and long working hours, no rights, no benefits, no termination from employee side, and so on. The IPL situation satisifes none of the above. Why is it being termed slavery? How is this any different from you being an employee of TCS or Infosys, and they sending you to some remote outpost in Turkey for an IT project. You can hardly say "NO, I'm not going".......get a grip on matters before venturing out to make ignorant comments. You are not doing yourself a favour.

in TCS or INFOSYS no one is "auctioned" mr hot air....... here it is openly stated that the players r auctioned. u know how the slaves were exhibited in the market place, their points announced and the rich quoted their price.... what is the diff in the scene here...>??????????.that is what i meant by saying "the slaves of the past" ......these r glorified slaves......paid in crores no doubt.
Its a good idea stollen from the Europian subcontinent's football league but i dont think it will be a hit in India...Whenever we see cricket there is Indianism attach to it... consider a cricket match without Natialism... how do u feel not that interesting isn't it... how many of us watch Ranji matches or any oterh tournaments... very few... same is gonna happen with IPL... :-)

Watch Zee sports man.. India's time has arrived.. The league will has some interesting matches. And if there are incidents like 6 six in one over or hatricks or close wins trust me this cricket loving country will really start enjoying.
Also Since Indians are the most racists people in the world it will easily tricle down to likings of their regional teams..
I don't know what happens to international criket if they cannot match money from IPL..
i dont believe after having so much money we are under developed country..as people just know how to make money for their own good...this is just waste...
It is intriguing to think that players can be "bought" or "sold" ( the same applies to footballers also)and that too in a country like India where poverty is rampant - after all EVERYONE has the right to sports to keep themselves healthy - why doesn't Sports Authority of India (is there one?) develop many playgrounds in suburbs (and fix a rule that there SHOULD be parks and playgrounds in ALL new townships) where sports can be a real pleasure instead of being a source of income for a very few. It pains us to see people quoting in "dollars" for some players who'll no doubt pocket it and take it to their already rich countries (e.g. Australia and NZ..) whereas the poor Indians have to pay more for their goods (because it is from advts. mostly that this kind of money will be made up - unless it is EXPLICITLY BACK MONEY)- and note - how these people can repatriate DOLLARS wherein only RUPEES will be paid in India - does it mean we'll lose a lot of FE in the process? It is indeed sad.....

I was thinking of repatriation too! How will these players repatriate their earnings? What is the modality?

IPL schedule will interfere with englands domestic season,so pietersen is more concerned to his englands carrier than this bullshit.
It's Shoaib to Sachin, the best in the business, at Eden Gardens with 1 lac spectators start clapping , Ponting at first slip and Ganguly , arguably the best captain of India , shouts : C'mon man, hit him hard . I just cann't imagine anything more thrilling can ever happen in a cricketing ground ! Thanx IPL , thanx Mr. POWAR.

you are a bengali that 's why you are so obsessed with a crap stadium like eden gardens and a non performer like ganguly.
also shoiab and sachin are hardly the best in business.
RE:RE:Amazing IPL
by pradip chakraborty on Feb 20, 2008 06:32 PM
excuse me! bengali or no bengali how can you say Eden Gardens is a crap stadium? are you nuts? cricketers all around the world recognize Eden gardens as one of the three best grounds to play at, the other two being the Lords and the MCG! By the way, have you been to the stadium in person or you go by your normal 'everything-bengali-and-in-bengal-is-crap' attitude? I guess the latter true given that you also call Ganguly a non performer! also the author had not written any thing about ganguly performing.. he just wanted to highlight his captaincy skills which of course is bound to be 'crap' again for you!

I have watched cricket in Eden Gardens, its the best stadium in India. I am neither a bengali nor a Kolkattan.

The worst stadiums are Wankhede and Kotla in Delhi. Even Chinnaswamy, Bangalore is quite beautiful.

though I am not a big fan of Ganguly, I guess he can fare better than a few of the youngsters in show at Australia.

V S, why do you have so much poison against Bengalis? Live in Calcutta for one year, you will start appreciating them much better. People in Calcutta are very helpful, unlike many in Delhi or Chennai.
RE:Amazing IPL
by Desi on Feb 20, 2008 09:15 PM
That may be true. But they are extremely chauvinistic! Bengalis think they are the most refined people and the most cultured people! C'mon gimme a break!
