IPL: BCCI taking Indian public for a ride
by Abhishekh Ray on Feb 19, 2008 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

BCCI thinks that Indian public will accept any crap dished out in the name of cricket and entertainment, and they can make their money fooling the cricket-crazy nation. Some of the companies sponsoring the event (like DLF) have collected their money through IPO.

Why not give IPL a chance?
We could watch and Judge. Instead of judging prematurely. Why not have a open mind?

This is NOT judging...its mere speculation...the kind of stuff you do in the stock market...where we DONT judge...
IPL has the whole world to take its chances...no one is stopping it. We are merely speculating the probably routes that it might end up in.

baby ray baby,
DLF is a 95000 crores company - it doesnt have to divert funds from IPO to IPL. - gain some more knowledge first.

Cos r wasting public money on IPL
by Kakali Chatterjee on Feb 19, 2008 10:20 AM  | Hide replies

Cos should pass resolution in GBs before venturing in non-company activities like IPL etc. & wasting share holders money. Co Laws should forbid it & proper authority should take action immediately.

It is done all over world.
If you don't agree, you could always sell the particular company stock. Or even 'sell short'

public holds hardly 10-30 % in most cos. - the promoter holds more than 50% to 87% (in case of DLF which is the title sponsor) - he has more risks in any new investment decision - he of course finds the investment worthy - thats why he is making it. THE PROMOTERS ARE NOT FOOLS DEAR - HAVE TRUST IN THESE BIGGIES - THEY KNOW THEIR MONEY MANAGEMENT BETTER - thats why they are there.

INDIAN CRICKET
by VENKATARAMAN RAMACHANDRAN on Feb 19, 2008 10:03 AM  | Hide replies

Cricket is no longer a sport in India. It is a commercial subject. Though everyone in the world portray India as a cricket crazy nation, it is generally patronised by only the English Media and English speaking citizens, which covers most of the educated and reasonably wealthy individuals. As a calculation, not even 1% of India's population is interested in this game, but the hype seems to be too high for this sport. Any way, we are happy that this game generates lot of revenue for the advertising industry, and the Finance Minister should bring Cricket under the Entertainment Industry, and tax them accordingly. This will generate substantial revenue for the Nation also, which can be utilised for the infrastructure projects.

I disagree with ur 1% theory - I was in Gangtok during 2003 world cup - to my surprise people there were as crazy abt it as all others in other Indian states - there were crackers all over in the valley when sachin hit shoaib for a six.
There are sooooooooooooo many divisions in India - I find there is nothing like cricket which connects all the Indians

No way

I dont think IPL is going to earn the revenues to befit the investment. It may at the best equal out.the Indian public is spending so much money only when the team plays other countries. They feel it is a national pride. But a league type match earning revenues is a doubt. And the money being bandied about is ridiculous.

I think the way they doing it and how the celeberities are taking this franchisee is raising our eyebrows.

Again, it is proved that we are ignoring other games and promiting this cricket like any thing at very higher cost.

If there is a huge loss is expected from these matches, I think it will not creat any wonder.

Also the BCCI thinks they are the only one godfather for cricket in India which could destroy the game in future.
