IPL will kill cricket outside India
by Mahesh B on Feb 13, 2008 03:20 PM  | Hide replies

IPL will hire all good players outside India..for instance the best. Pull out Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Flintoff out of England. Ponting, Hayden, Symonds, Lee, Clark, Hussey out of Australia. Sangakara, Vaas and Muralitharan out of Srilanka. The best from the rest as well. There would be no international cricket. Everyone can watch IPL. Dooms day for cricket is not far away.

Its ok yaar.... atleast we dont have to sit for 5 days for draw test match. And for other full day ODIs. Atleast now all will be short T20 matches and we can go back to work in 3-4 hours.

DONT COMPARE IPL WITH EPL
by anzar shennatt on Feb 13, 2008 03:04 PM  | Hide replies

why more people wathc EPL matches in stadium is because each team represent some place or city like LONDON,Manchester, Liverpool and they see pride in their team winning.
In EPL the clubs were formed naturally by players in that area .But in the case of IPL the teams are formed artificially by businessman and BCCI .Indians dont take pride in belonging to a particular city .They will rather support their state. If IPL was made including state teams rather than cities it would have generated interest with the quality of cricket improving by foreign players entry

Your suggestion for making state teams is rather good as that will make the people of the entire state have pride in their team. However, even EPL has most foreign players than local. Infact teams like Arsenal have more foreign players from other contries than English Players. EPL is also a business & thats the reason the teams have been bought now by americans/russians (Man U, Chelsea & Liverpool)

money talks!!
by red mars on Feb 13, 2008 02:57 PM  | Hide replies

this just proves that money matters much more than playing for one's own county/country. let me clarify that this is perfectly acceptable. i am not against this & if i were a cricketer, i too would have done the same...the only point i want to make is that all cricketers should stop being hypocritical and saying that playing for country is the ultimate honour etc.etc...money talks baby!!!

I agree. I wish some businessman brings some exhibition matches of teams from EPL into india. this will proove a major boost for football... and then someone should start IFPL (Indian Football Premiere League). That is the only way football in India will improve.

See BCCI is a privae body. Will BCCI choose players from IPL ( even players from foreginers also) to represent BCCI team - I mean Indian Team. This is legally allowed as per the consittution of BCCI. We can see gilchrist representing India and playing agains Aussies when they tour India

The ICC has a law that a player needs to be a resident of a country for at least 4 years to represent that country. So yes, when Gilchrist is 40 (assuming that he lives in India) he can play for India. Heard of Kevin Pieterson mate?? He left South Africa and lived in UK for a considerable time until he was eligible to play for England. Get it Duckhead..?kCbcm

Abhe mamu.... we all get so excited and want Baichung Bhutia to go to european club teams, or Narain K to drive with Ferrari or McLaren. What if they say the same thing that only their country nationals can participate???? We need to look at things from both sides... not expect others to take us... but we wont take outsiders. The same ghatti MNS mentality u have. Its a sports club... looking to make profits.... and however they do it... let them do it. If you don't like it... go n sleep.

Flop of the century..IPL..
by james on Feb 13, 2008 02:48 PM  | Hide replies

Certainly IPL is going to land in big choas..It will bring down the standard of cricket from 5-day cricket to 3 hour cricket..

I dont see there is much intrest between indian public about any regional city playing against another regional city.If that would have been the case then DOMESTIC ONE DAY TOURNAMENT in INDIA would have developed.so IPL has never learnt the heart of indians..just have to feel for the bussiness persons for investing this big lump sum in this project..

Even matches between rest of world Vs aussies ,or asia VS africa or whatv er the case can be will never be attacted by indian public even if it is india VS rest of the world..

Only matches between india and other good cricketing mation will be intresting and not these city matches..

Any way IPL will hit hard on all world teams..

Will IPL be successful?
There are some 6 city teams, lets say, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai!

I dont belong to any of these cities. I dont know whether I'll be having any interest to watch these matches like Kolkata v/s Chandigarh...Who cares!

In India, ppl dont go to stadium or dont leave office to go n watch on TV a match between cities or states!

Does anyone watch the England T-20 competition in which foreign players also play?

DOnt compare football to cricket or india to europe..
If that would have been the case they would have been a good support for rest of world VS india matches or australia Vs rest of world or asia VS afrika..

Or atleast there should be some intrest when a one day match is played between any domestic team in india..But no one cared to see those matches or atleast spend time to see the scores..

It clear IPL is just a hype..u will also know it very soon..

bcoz of dirty indian politics, the world of cricket is going to suffer huge losses...

bcci is afraid of icl so they started ipl....and now
it will be a money game, and not cricket,

as mukesh ambani, vijay mallaya, priety zinta, shahrukh khan etc etc are in the hunt for money...

cricket is going to change in a huge way....

LET CRICKET GROW
by rajendra agrawal on Feb 13, 2008 02:31 PM

Similar situation exists in football.
Has it got destroyed ?
Rather it has grown even more in all countries, including India now.
So let cricket also grow now after it has been played only in 8 countries for the last one hundred years.
Let every gully boy also get a chance to earn in sport at various levels, instead of just loitering in the streets.

threat to international cricket
by Narayanan Sethuraman on Feb 13, 2008 02:22 PM  | Hide replies

If this happens, then IPL is surely going to threaten International Cricket and destroy the game as more cricketers will follow suit.....what will happen to the national cricket bodies and the quality of cricket matches between countries?

In contrast ICL is designed to develop the game rather than destroy it.....surely I would rather prefer to back ICL than IPL.....

Can you imagine that each player would be carrying a price tag (fixed by the admen) who would place higher price for guys contracted with them than with the unpopular ones....while players are bid, there will remain some who will not be sought for....what happens to their morale and dignity....

This is not the right way to select teams....players are not commodities who can be fixed a price tag.....I think Lalit Modi has gone too far by doing such things.....and finally remember that money corrupts most of them.....so where is the guarantee of pure unbiased cricket????
