EVERY GOOD PLAYER HAS BAD DAYS. TAKING DECISION TO DROP DRAVID IS GOOD FOR HIM. WHEN DRAVID WAS CAPTAIN HE DECLARE INNING WHEN SACHING WAS NEAR TO COMPLETE CENTURY ( 200 ), IT IS NOT PERSONAL. BUT FOR WINING YOU HAVE TO TAKE HARSH DECISION. IF TEAM WANTS TO WIN, ONLY 11 PLAYER CAN PLAY WHO ARE IN GOOD FORM, AND MORE IMPORTANT THAT THE WAY HE IS GETTING OUT SHOWS HE IS NOT IN GOOD FORM.
It seems that there is a lot of theories on Dravid being dropped.Rested is nonsense. He has been dropped. This shows a terrible attitude of the selectors. Is there a case for Dravid to be in the Indian team?Dravid is a technically sound batsman who has anchored India in many tight situations. He has scored runs consistently in this format abroad, which cannot be said even of Sachin or Saurav. So in the medium term Dravid has a place in the one day side.To those who berate him as the wall etc, think of Bristol.Dravid can play correct and get the runs.OK he has a little starter trouble, but who has not including Tend and Gang. These 2 will do well on Indian pitches and then sign off.So Dravid has no good substitute for being the anchor.Badrinat may shape up ,but it is early days.Kaif is another, but his form has been worse. Now in the short term there could be a loss of form. This has also been brought about by Dhoni moving him around. So let him play the Challengers and get back his rhythm. If the selectors are going to behave like this,Dravid can take a break and let the demi gods and poster boys stew in Australia. Then the real story will come out.

the rule should be same for all. I mean when a player(favorate of Marketing companey and selector)Sachin does not perform people looks his past performance, record etc and say that, ,"form is temprary and class is permanent". If Yuvraj, sachin will out of form in pakisthan series , Will chief Selector Vencercor show such brave to left them out of team. If they can do this then, the desion of dravid out of team is good else bad .
Actually dravid have no public suppourt and political support like ganguly and sachin, thats why it happening with dravid.

I have a suggestion here for BCCI. First 6 years players allowed to get money after that if they play for passion give the money for domestic cricket which they received from corporat world. Definetly Senior player will take it seriously and it will help indian cricket as well as youngester

mr.citizen, I know u have the right to write and talk anything...But that dosent mean that u write some scrap... u are a peanut and dont have the stature to talk about great Dravid... He is one of the greatest to play for India...

I totally agree with you on that one, Dravid happens to be one of the most prolific and dependable scoreres in any form of the game. Just to speak about the records , he still holds the highers partnerships in a ODI format. Contrary to that Dinesh Karthik was out so freaking cheaply that he only had himself to blame and his lack of technique to handle the swing bowling. I do not see Dinesh going too far in the Oz series as well as he clearly lacks the technique as well as a mindset which i am hoping he will develop in some time. Apart from Dhoni is a fool of an ass as he thinks by making statements openly about anything and evrything he is doing a wise job. he is absolutely stupid and preposterous as of now as he has got the captain on his head which is riding beyond a certain limit to be quite honest. He needs to be setting examples as a captian if he is to be worthy of the same, he is not now currently worthy of this. Secondly he will have to dig his b..s out to perform well in Australia this year as we all know they only will go for a kill everytime and just Dhoni's power is not sufficient you need a lot mroe brains and techniques as well. So Dhoni please learn to play straight and not the hockey or baseball shots anymore. This is certainly an honest opinion, it is upto you to make it or break it.

Those who do not have muscles often think, as a measure of self defence, that people with muscles do not have brains. THIS IS A GROSS MIS-CONCEPTION.

Well said mate... Having applauded your words, I must say that Dhoni still has a way to travel. Based on his tactics used in the past one-day series, he doesn't seem to be the best choice but having given a chance, one must wait for at least 3-4 months before passing on a judgement note to Dhoni. If the team isn't performing well, you can't blame the captain everytime. I agree that he has made some mistakes in basic fundamentals but he is an intelligent chap, he will learn. What we need is a quick learner, a person who can quickly rectify his mistakes and comeback with a splash!!!. So good luck, Dhoni. Go ahead with aa attitude to outhink the opposition. In addition to this, please keep the basics in-tact. If you can do this, you will rule the world.

Great people should reside in record books. They should return to field only when they are again in a position to deliver. Cricket field is not meant for fond memories. It is meant for people who can perform on the given day. India's biggest problem is obsession with gerentocracy. We have invented cliches like "Form is temporary but class is permanent" only to protect falling/fallen heroes, out of sense of respect for elders. Respect for elders is fine as a cultural value but in cricket field we should bring in people who are capable of delivering at the given moment. The elders too should learn from traditional Indian values. Merely on seeing strands of grey hair appearing on his head, Dashrath had decided to name Ram as yuvraj. so goes the legend. But the avarice for more and more money keeps our elders glued to their positions by hook, crook or lobbying. This is why India keeps on losing despite being full of talented people.

I agree with you nanda. Dravid is a champion and it's really senseless to drop the "Wall" from yout team. Dravid was the only player who could have held the Aussie seam attack yesterday. One must remember that Rahul is a class act, he is a fighter and I am sure the "Wall" will return to team India with a bang!. Possessing talent is not everything you still need to harness it. India has never harnessed Rahul's talent. If Rahul was a failure then what did Dhoni or Yuvraj do in the entire series. Did they help you to win a match? The answer is NO. They may have played some blistering strocks but did they win the series for you. I must say that this is a perfect example of a poor team selection. A team ought to be selected based on the pitch for that very day. You will never bowl 3 spinners on a pacy bouncy track. Similarly you wouldn't play 20-20 players for on a pacy attack of Aussies that too on a seaming pitch. Its often being said "Play the bowlers by their balls and not by their names". If you learn this mate, you are destined to win. These are basic fundamentals of cricket.
sreenath was sitting on the bench for the 7th odi. quite astonishing. captain was saying we need a player like sreenath durung a press ineterview. first ten overs is anybody's game.

Captain should keep saying what he said for diplomatic reasons and keep doing what he needs to do. If only Dravid and sri Santh had been out of the 6th ODI team, India would have won that match.
Ganguly's poor form continued for a good 2 years before our selectors decided that it was time to drop. The treatment Dravid has received is relatively unfair, but hope it is a good precedent. for more info go to ___hotworldcup.com___

Ganguly made up with his shrewd captaincy...Dravid doesnt have anything
While Dravid has solid technique he like sunil gavaskar was never suited for the one day game. These guys can not force the tempo a major weakness. Gavaskar like Dravid an accomplished player in the tests, was pathetic in one day game (remember the famous crawl in the one day world cup where in Gavaskar batted straight, and carried his bat throughout the innings, then all of 60 overs, for a paltry 36 runs).
We in India are sentimental and give continual chance to non performers. gandhi-nehru family remain the primary example of this indian largesse.

if you see dravid's strike rate it is close 80. and even if you look dravid's past few years strike rate it is above 80 so those who's memmory was very weak then he is the one who incresed the run rate in final overs in recent past. do not judge the people on basis of one series performance

In fact in a real life situation one is evaluated on hi ability to deliver on the given day. Dravid's performance in recent past has been horrifying. Like Ganguly, he should go back to drawing board and return with re-honed skills.

I am amused by your cricketing knowledge Mr. Shivakumar. Dravid has scored more than 10000 runs in ODIs with an average of 40...which is very good by ODI standards and you still want to say that he is not suited for one days...wait and watch his comeback...

If only we could site past records for winning today's matches! I think Dhoni deliberately sent Dravid in a crunch situation in the 6th ODI as callaege to him to live up to his great reputation or go. This was necessary for building a new team India.

Who has the fastest 50 (from India) in One Dayers...The player you say, who don't deserve to be in the team as he is not a one day player.

Average only is not at all a matter for One day tht will suit for only Test. Strike rate is very important with Average. When Sewag dropped nobody came to support him like dravid. The player is not playing he should be dropped. The People are still blaming sachin 1 or 2 continuous failures but not the other batsmens. He is also a human he is not a run machine and can't score all the matches. but still he is the god of cricket and his Average in Major Finals above 47 is proving the same.

boss, see dravid's records whenever the team was in trouble he stood like wall and built the innings, moreover he is the only person who involved in 2 300 partnerships.
All these fans whu are writing is cowdung. They do not know how to lift the morale of someone who is down. When we won 16 matches chasing and created a world record under his captaincy we were joyous. Just that he is going thru a bad patch ppl are after his neck. These same fans tolerated 2 yrs of continuous failure of Ganguly even effigies were burnt but still Ganguly played. Now nobody wants to support Dravid. they are all filled with cowdung in the brain, what else can be expected from such ppl!

if dravid is dropped from the team means , it doesn't mean that he is not a good player but he is out of form and to regain his form he has to play some domestic matches and even county matches , so that if he is confident then he can make a comeback. it happened to all the great players all around the world but in india we are taking it as a insult to the players , just go and check what happened to players like steve waugh ,mark waugh , lara and even hooper i can give you so many examples so don't be too sentimental
RE:Indian Fans Are Cowdung....

The best way to lift Dravid's morale is to give him Ganguly treatment. That is the Aussie way of dealing with non-performers. We all have seen it works.
Dravid is a gentlemen, but he is badly out of form now to score runs in international cricket matches. In the team, he is dead wood (and not WALL) and is causing defeats. Ya, drop Dravid for a few matches. Let him play domestic or county cricket for a season and regain his confidence and form. Please re-call that in the team composition votes of readers, he is consistently scored the lowest votes. Good luck Dravid, but do voluntarily keep away from being dead wood in the team! You were bold to voluntarily relnguish yor Captaincy! Follow it up for another logical decision.

Of course, he is a very great player. He will go back to drawing board and will give a resounding reply to his critics. In facts his present day crtics will happily receive his reposte. We all wish Dravid accepts this challenge and comes back like Saurav Ganguly.
RE:Team for Pakistan
by Supratik on Oct 18, 2007 10:55 AM
Yea that's what we've been saying ever since Sehwag, Harbhajan, Irfan came on the scene. This "dead wood" has outlasted all of the above.
Youngsters are nowhere near ready to take over yet. They won to 20/20 because they don't have the attention span to last 50 overs in a game.
When are Indian fans going to learn?!
PS India has never been a great cricket team, maybe "very good" is the best to be kind. And everytime a youngster bursts on the scene it's like he's the centre of the world. When are we going to learn?!
