Aussie back lash to Indian sledging
by kiran bagade on Oct 11, 2007 02:55 PM

Ricky Ponting turning turtle on the alleged Sreesanth antics, even when he is not figuring in the playing eleven, is a case of a Moralising Moron who is practising or better still, suffering from selective amnesia.

Just because you have a superior set of cricketing skills, you do have license to brand the other team players of reacting to what the Aussie's have perfected into a fine art = sledging.

This is not in defense of boorish behaviour of Sreesanth, and the Aussies better focus on good cricket as they are for a change, not getting enough time to be what they are best at - sledging.

Hey Mr Chappel,

U don't need to worry abt Sreesanth bank balance. Perhaps u forgot that most of the money for cricket comes from Asians. If we don't want you then definitely u will be out of money. U got it.

sledging according to Wikipedia
by pk on Oct 11, 2007 02:49 PM

I guess this sums it up:
Cultural views on sledging:
Australia & New Zealand

In Australia and New Zealand, sledging is seen as fair game and part of masculine discourse. Adult males commonly insult each other as part of social relations, particularly in sport; they believe that "What's said on the pitch stays on the pitch". In this cultural context, sledging is not seen as a negative issue; those who complain about it are derided as immature and un-masculine.[citation needed]

South Asia

South Asian societies%u2014such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh%u2014 have a very strong concept of politeness [citation needed] and keeping face. Personal insults are seen as unacceptable and uneducated. When cricket was first introduced to the westernised elites of South Asian society, these groups adopted the concepts of fair play in the traditional English sense when playing cricket. Players raised in such a cricketing subculture consequently found it difficult to accept sledging in the Australasian fashion. Controversies have risen out of these differing cultural mores. [citation needed]

In recent years, however, South Asian teams have become adept at sledging in their own fashion. One notable example is Sri Lanka's team, which has used Australian coaches and coaching methods since the mid-1990s. Western commentators have often challenged South Asian teams on their supposed claims of sledging innocence, pointing at the common on-field use of Hindi and Urdu phrases that neither oth

Shame on Ricky Ponting, he is a coward. When u do it 2 others, u should b prepared 2 take it back from others. If he thinks that he can make Sree scared by telling that Sree shpuld b ready 2 face the Australian wrath then Ponting is the biggest fool & by all this he is screwing himself & his team coz Sree is a fearless cricketer & the aussies should b prepared 2 get a few spankings on their ass.....

Mr. Vijay Baskar I totally agree with Mr. Ahmad. It's indian team's fault that they don't hav agression that's y their winning % is so low. For last decade or so only Dada(Ganguly) Showed some agression & u can easily see the result that he is the most successful indian Captain. To become successful u must hav a bit of this element also. So the young Indian team should reply Aussies in same lang. which they speak & understand.

Sreesanth's Behaviour
by siva velagaleti on Oct 11, 2007 02:45 PM

It is time for Sreesanth to take it seriously and get over his Histrionics / Antics .He must show exemplary behaviour and shun Childish acts , if at all he is seriously planning to pursue Cricket as his Profession / Career.Cricket should be played as a Gentlemen's game.Discipline and Pleasant mannerisms are signs of Good Sportsmen and must adopt to that Category at the earliest. Controlled agression as a bowler is most welcome but not the Cheap Tricks and Antics. He is an upcoming Cricketer and must achieve highest proficiency in his bowling and fielding.
May God bless him with Wisdom ,Tactfulness,Pleasant on field mannerism, Luck and Success.

If Sree does get it......there are few bowlers who can be as devestating as he can be. With everything going on around him...he is still the highest wicket taker for the Indians in this series. One more thoing....look at most of his wickets- they are mostly top quality batsmen....not tailenders. I hope he gets it together......for India's sake!
