Dude we all are missing a point here. whoever has put this up never mentioned this team as Indian Cricket Team. Maybe this gentleman has put togather a powerful Tamil Nadu team.See Ranji season is on so TN has to comeup with a strong team. I think they are playing mumbai today. So lets not get all perturbed huh.
The team selected will be more or less the backbone for the remaining tests against Pakistan and also Australia. It is good to know there is a good bench strength and no one can take their places for granted. It is also heartening to note that the players left out were also in good form and stand a good chance to make a come back for the remaining tests and Autralia, and not by default,as was the case in the past on many instances.
I am sure Yuvraj,Murali and RP will be asked to sit out for the first match as the new captain will be playing it safe.
However,no player, whether he is an opener, middle order batsman, wicketkeeper, spinner or pace bowler, can take his place for granted as there is Gautham Gambhir,Yuvraj,Murali,RP singh,Irfan and Munaf waiting in the wings for one of them to fail.
Overall,it is a welcome change from the past. All the best India.
Clearly Ganguly was occupying his position in the team on basis of his captaincy from year 2003-2006. I think that it is a long period and hence there was nothing wrong in dropping him. There was no politics whatsoever. The same is not true in the case of Dravid. You do not drop someone for bad performance in a single series. It is OK if Dravid was rested to groom some youngsters. In that case, it should have been done in a dignified manner. He was third most successful batsman in last two ODI series in England and Ireland.

Yes, and with all this Ganguly led India to the final of the World Cup, and Dravid presided over the exit of the India team from the Group League stage in the next World Cup. Didn't someone say that scoreboard is an ass?

ganguly had led india to world cup, therefore we should keep him in the team even when he gets 70 years old and would need a walking stick to reach the pitch. you are quite right.
