Useful knock by Younis
by Padmanabhaa M on Nov 09, 2007 11:16 AM  | Hide replies

Younis played a stellar knock in Pakistan's series-levelling win over India. Though Younis and Misbah left while trying to accelerate, it was Afridi's charming cameo that ensured there are no further hiccups in reaching the target. India would rue the fact that they conceded too many extras, especially the wides. Indian new ball bowlers have hardly made an impression in the matches held so far. Though Ganguly bowled well in the middle, Indian fans could see that bowling at the death has become a cause for the country's constant concern. On Thursday, it was batting too . . We should have finished with a score close to 350, considering the fact that we were 260/6 at the end of the 40th over. It was hard hitting by Harbhajan down the order, that helped India get 321/9 in 50 overs. Earlier, after a tentative start, Sachin played a characteristic innings before his sojourn ended when he steered Gul into Akmal's gloves. Sachin's fate "blocked" his feat as this is the 3rd time he is getting out on 99 in 2007. In addition to this, five times in 5 months and 7 times in 2007, he has got out in nervous nineties; 22 career dismissals in the 90s.

MAN OF THE MATCH:DHONI
by manoj kalita on Nov 09, 2007 11:06 AM  | Hide replies

it was selfish act by younis khan to accept MOM.it should be given to dhoni er.DHOBI.because how on earth u can ask your bowler to bowl yorkers with mid on and fine leg up.this guy really sucks man.he should have been named captain of the test team as well.it would have been graet fun to see how poor dhobi perform against aussies.
solution: reinstate the WALL.we could not post bigger score despite the heroics by 10dulkar because the 4 fools in the middle dont know how to build an innings.thats what happen when u have 2 opener and one slogger in ur middleorder.

Very well said friend. Dhoni has exposed in right time how immature he is. Dhoni would have been disastorous if chosen for tests as captain. He thought there is no harm in giving singles to every ball and occasional double. He made Pakistan's victory possible by keeping fielders in the deep and leaving prime filding places vacant. He actually captained Pakistan yesterday to make their win possible. He certainly desrved MOM award.

My Solution - Let Gambhir and Uthappa do the opening and let then destroy thge opposition's bowling attack..shift Sachin and Sorav in middle order to cash in on the good start...and yes RAHUL DRAVID on no 3 ...come what may...

I am not a Dada fan but one must give him credit for the way he bowled.Took the pace off and kept a great line. The regular bowlers did not do that. This points to the need of medium pacers on a wicket where there is no spin. The future consists of grooming guys like Pankaj Singh and Praveen Kumat to bowl and bat.Irfan is also in this category.Yo Mahesh not yet there.Let them compete for 2 spots. The team gets more balanced then and the captain has optons on a day when the regular bowlers are having an off day.

Boss I wish Indian team members would be selected on the basis of "playing for places"...but thats not the case...BCCI and selectors are idiots..selecting 15 of the top cricketers and then adjusting them in playing 11...as a result..5 genuine openers playing in a match and most dynamic ones playing at no. 3 (gambhir)and no 7 (uthappa)..God on this diwali give some sanity to selectors!

Good performance by Pakistan!
by mohan ramakrishnan on Nov 09, 2007 10:57 AM

Let's for once appreciate the efforts of Pak team in winning the match despite that India did do well in the batting. It was not a small score at all. Kudos to Younis, Misbah and Afridi for putting up a good fight.

Come to think of it, Pak fielding was as bad as India. Their bowling too as bad as India. It was only the batmen on both sides who did well.

As for India is concerned, time and again it has been proved that we bowl hopelessly in the slog overs. The bowlers merrily keep bowling on all sides without even understanding how the field has been set. The bodily language of the fielders just indicated they were lazy bones.

Blame the Indian bowlers for yesterday's failure and ofcourse the great indian fielding prowess!

Bringing back Agarkar and anybody else won't do any good. Every player has to use his what is inside his head as well when framing a challenge. And we know where the indian brains are when it comes to a crunch!

Re:The loss and shrug
by John Bosco on Nov 09, 2007 10:48 AM  | Hide replies

Dhoni shrugged of the loss and said it is one of those things.Sorry but that is not true. This was a match in the bag which was lost and the captain has to take the blame. Many mistakes are seen.Dropping a bowler for a batsman was a huge mistake. If Ganguly had gone for runs Dhoni would have looked like a fool.Ganguly bowled well and saved Dhoni.
Secondly the batting of Dhoni,Yuvraj,Uthappa,Irfan and Sehwag in the middle overs in a good position left us 30 runs short. This was the real reason.Dhoni looks cool when he says bowlers bowled badly. The real reason was middle overs batting by India. These days on flat pitches you can expect many teams to get 100 runs in the last 10 overs.
The bowling at the death was horrible.Zaheer looks jaded and miserable.Give him a break.R.P was not bad but hat to learn to bowl at the death. There seems to be a lack of a game plan for the death.Hit and run approach.
Dhoni's captaincy has to be blamed for this loss.

Dhoni has to mature still. It was ridiculous to drop Murali Karthik and bring Sehwag. What the hell did he do? Even Murali wd have knocked off those 20 odd that he made.
Success has gone to Dhoni's head. Imagine 27.3 overs and 186 and team ended up at 321 (thanx to harbhajan) and the much hyped so called youngsters buckled and probably Zaheer and Pathan forgot that they were to bowl for India. They gave loose balls in slog overs to help Afridi. Shameful...absolutely shameful that even 321 our bowlers cdnt defend and we talk of seniors to be left out. This is the performance of youngsters....see!!!!!!!

Sehwag was taken as reserve opener. how can he replace Murali Karthik in the team. If you want to include a player in Karthik's place they should have brought in Praveen Kumar who is an allrounder. In today's form even Murali would have batted better than Sehwag!

Ya many mistakes in the captaincy.
Firstly picking Sehwag over Kartik. And Sehwag didnt even bowl. Ganguly did bowl well, and saved Dhoni's hide. But we were one bowler short, and on this wicket where the ball was coming onto the bat, we needed someone to take the pace off the ball like Kartik.

Plus putting Sehwag as a floating batsman confused him, and upset the rythm of the innings. Because when Gambhir was out, the momentum of the innings went out. If Yuvi and Uthappa had been there to play a long innings, India would have made 25 more runs.

It makes sense to bowl Ganguly in the middle overs, because he takes pace off the ball, but only if you fill the slot with another batting all rounder, or an exceptional fielder.

Plus Dhoni also missed a stumping of Younis Khan off Ganguly's bowling, which was costly. Very !

Reasons for defeat -
We were 20 runs short on this pitch.
Played Sehwag instead of Kartik on this pitch.

Remove Prasad from bowling coach, bring back DRAVID!!!
by Akhil on Nov 09, 2007 10:40 AM  | Hide replies

Bring Dravid in place of Uthappa. U have to accept the facts man, i fu have to have the winning habit. Right arm slow bowlers like Prasad can do nothing good to India. Prasad never bowled a single yorker in his entire life. Now, he is teaching these young fast bowlers to bowl leg and off cutters which r not always effective. We need someone like Wasim Akram who can teach youngsters how to bowl in block holes. How to do reverse swing. Prasad even doesnt knw what is reverse swing. So far Uthappa, the less we talk about him, it's better. He should play in T20 only. He doesnt deserve to take Dravid's place. BRING BACK THE WALL OF INDIA!!!

Rohit Sharma is far far better than Uthappa. Uthappa has no technique only coming down the wicket n hitting he knows. That doesnt work in ODI. He was lucky in England to chase 317. But this is Pakistan and not England. Also he has dropped catches in series against AUS which cost India the match and samething happened yesterday also. India in fact has forgotten how to field and take catches.

His bowling is so pathetic that even #11 domestic batsmen can hit him. It happened in challenger. Imagine what will happen in ODI. I dont know how much fit Ishant is now.

DEFEAT of the last MATCH DUE TO DHONI DECISION TO DROP MURALI KARTHIK AND INCLUSION OF SHEWAG,why they changed winning combination without any reason see the performance of Murali and Harbajan nowadays murali performing consistently but harbajan not like that kind of performance, the reason for 2nd ODI DEFEAT PURELY BY PLAYING ELEVEN,why selectors retaining Jaheer, harbajan,.they performing once in twenty match. but murali chawla not getting that much oppertunity, see chawla ,he bowled brilliantly in England tour but not in the team now selectors should concentrate bowling department also not only batting . the bowlers [zaheer, harbajan]got enough oppertunities but still they not matured.
