Poor Guys
by NB on May 15, 2007 01:45 PM

Poor guys these Uthappa and RP Singh... The 3rd match was called off.
And now they will be dropped for the next series to get in Sachin/Ganguly and Agarkar/Pathan.

Boring cricket
by CricketLover on May 14, 2007 10:30 PM  | Hide replies

This is the most boring cricket I have seen in recent past. A 7th ranked team playing with a 9th ranked one and there is no real excitement in the game. Even though Gambhir scored a hundred it was not even half as exciting as (say) a fifty from Ponting or Hayden. No sooner had he scored a 100, all the superlatives starting flowing again on how he improved his game, how he has improved his temparament etc. (Check the TOI). The quality of this team has shown itself in the 2nd game when India were comfortably placed at 193/3 in 35 overs and could just score 90 runs in last 14. Any other team would have belted the bowlers in such a situation and taken the score to around 325-350 instead of 284. What can we expect when we have players like Mongia and Dravid playing the slog overs instead of real stroke makers. The best Dravid could do in those overs was get a few 4-5 singles or 2 runs (not able to score big boundaries), whereas the less said about Mongia the better. This guy cant even get the bat to the ball (missing 3 consecutive balls in 44th over). When he did connect finally he got out and there was no one lower down the order who can really hit the ball hard and score briskly. So much for the "new" look team and youngsters.
I still dont know what is Sehwag doing in the team? How long will he in the team despite scoring 2 fifties (including a 100 against Bermuda) in 20 odd games. If Sehwag can be in the team then why not Tendulkar and Ganguly?

I watched the game and I really felt sorry for the players . It's not easy to play in such a humid and hot conditions - Temp. hovering around 50 degrees ! After all, the players too are human beings and it doesn't matter how fit the players are, the conditions aren't just appropriative to play cricket at all . We have to blame and curse the boards for schduling the matches in the middle of the MAY in India/Bangla.

OK agreed it is hot out there with the temparatures around 90-95 degrees F, maybe around 100, but no different than what the players are used, because they play Ranji in Apr and the temparatures can be 105 degrees. Even if you take this into account the heat factor, it is still same for everyone so that is no excuse for lack of ability. I dont think the game would have been any different even if they had played in more comfortable temparatures. Some of the players are less fit than the ones they replaced - Powar and Mongia are no good.

exactly my point.
If dravid and sehwag are contining with their performances what harm had Sachin and ganguly had done. They performed much better than these 2 . This is just an eyewash..... They were dropped on non cricketing grounds.....

Either all should have been dropped or everyone should have ben given one more chance.

If only the selections were logical then we would not have this situation in Indian cricket where winning against minnows like BD (despite their WC showing) is considered an occasion to celebrate. What else can you expect when there is no accountability for the selectors or the BCCI who think they are above everything. It would be a shame if BD were able to even draw the tests (if rain does not intervene), given that they lost 35 out of 36 tests. This guy Dravid still keeps harping on Sehwag despite him scoring 2 fifties (includes a hundred against Bermuda) in last 25 innings

by KC on May 14, 2007 09:32 PM

Again we are abck to Sachin , saurav vs youngsters problem

Ok.// we are going to tour England next,..
so with whatever we saw ... should we go to Eng with Sachin , saurav or
with Sehwag , Dravid
or all of them

Rules - non performance , winning matches on own and ability cretiria should be same for all.........

To me if it has to be picked on these cretiriaes
following would be order
1. Sachin
2. Dravid
3. Ganguly
4. Sehwag

otherwise drop all 4 and give chance to 4 youngsters.......

pick bright youngsters.....
by heaven on May 14, 2007 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

When I see the Bangla team again, I get the goose pimples; look at the vintage of those guys when compared to ours!! T.Iqbal is only 18, Saquibul is only 17yrs, Ashraful who is already a veteran is only 23yrs, some of them dont look like they belong in that play area....all kids!!

Compared to them, we only have Piyush Chawla who is under 20....the rest of our guys, barring Sreesanth, Gambhir, Utthapa, and maybe Karthik are all old and creaky. We do not have one pace bowler who is in his early 20s'.....whats gonna become of our team in the next 4-5 yrs....we will obviously bring in one poor sod and put him in front of hungry lions and he will be treated like mince-meat!! This is what is called grooming young talent??

We dont have even one guy who can bowl fast and is currently 19-20 or whereabouts? This is the reason why we have these periods of troughs....cause our performance will never be consistent if we dont groom our young talent to face upto some serious stuff!!

Living in the past!
by Ramesh Kapoor on May 14, 2007 06:43 PM

It is always nice to reminisce and recall the past performance of some of the great players which includes Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly. The two stalwarts of Indian Cricket who were rested in the ODI for the Bangladesh Tour. Their dismal performance in the World Cup 2007, notwithstanding, are in the Test side which will shortly start after the ODI 3rd Test. Their performance will reveal their present day utility than their past performances. So why worry guys, take it easy!
