It was true but India is still far better than Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a one time star. I think Bangladesh should realise that they are still kids before India. India will hit them hard in 2nd ODI and would confirm that Bangladesh chokes before India. Funniest part is that they got beaten by Ireland. Now who chokes..India or Bangladesh??

Sachin - Why dropped?
by joseph mathai on May 11, 2007 05:45 PM

I fully agree with Mr.Vartak below. It could be probaby b\'cos of political reasons that Sachin was dropped from the team. I understand that he didn\'t score in the big match against Srilanka. But the pertinenet question remains as to who scored?
By any standards, the current situation doesn\'t warrant him to be thrown out of the team. Yes, you need to give opportunities to youngsters. However, does it have to be at the cost of someone like Sachin. When the batting average of Sachin in the last probably 8 or 10 games is 40, why is he being chucked out instead of Sehwag whose averages are down the drains?!!Look at the records to think logically rather than acting in an impulsive fashion just to save the face of board by giving some kind of euphoria to the public that they have taken stringent action to repair the Indian team.
Even in the series prior to the world cup Sachin was awarded as the player of the series. It could be a fatal precedent to leave if Sachin is dropped form the one day games just due to emotional reasons rather than logical ones.
Still he continues to be one of the most consummate players in the international cricket, being respected and adored by cricket greats like Ricky Ponting,Kevin Pietersen etc.
Still, there\'s an abundance of cricket left out in the man and please do not get this fact clouded by some lousy press report or statements by jealous Contemporaries. I can lay a bet with anyone who is slamming Sachin that - Guys, keep watching - He\'s gonna bounce back with astonishing innings b\'cos his talent is not fake or hyped, it is immaculately genuine and the proof is what he has done for our country in the last 17 years.
If our cricket board does not know how to utilise the experience and dexterity of the master batsman of the country, believe me they will never utilise anybody's talent or do anything good for country's cricket.- JOSEPH MATHAI

by Pyare Mohan on May 11, 2007 05:41 PM

India gave 18 runs free to opponents as extras, while bangladesh gave just 11 runs. And Mr Zaheer khan is the most generous bowler to opponents when it comes to giving extra runs

FOW: V Sehwag (6-1, 2.1), R Uthappa (21-2, 6.4), S Tendulkar (40-3, 15), *R Dravid (72-4, 24.1), Y Singh (157-5, 42.4), S Ganguly (158-6, 43.2), MS Dhoni (159-7, 43.5), Harbhajan Singh (159-8, 44.2), A Agarkar (159-9, 45.1), M Patel (191-10, 49.3)

I am requesting all Ganguly hatter to go through the stat.

Ganguly take 129 balls but what others did, even after Ganguly out they can not complete the entire 50 overs!! (50 overs x 6 balls= 300 balls extra 11 balls so 311-129=189 balls means 3o.3 overs ! if you like ganguly hatters can convince me what other did. if they are very good and better than ganguly and can score 6 runs per over average then total runs may come 183 and now if you add ganguly's 66 then total comes 249, now dear friends if that time ganguly not protect one side India may score 100 situation demands and ganguly plays accordingly. before blame ganguly please see what others like Sehwag, robin, sachin, rahul, dhoni all others did. Suman Bhat Banna asan hai bhai "CHEV" ekbar asli Indian banke dekho..

We need not to congratulate our indian team for wining yesterday's mathc. dhoni plays extremely well against weaker team. He has disappointed million of indian fans in the world cup. Winning match against bangldesh is not a great achievement.

i know dude, 3 yrs before he was a wonderful player. but now he is the worst batsmen. if im right his world cup scores were - 67 (129 balls)
89 (114 balls), 7 (28 balls). you call this extremely good batting? ugh, i pity your understanding of the game. it is not how much you score that is important, but the way you score it.

Captain Rahul Dravid
by Nicoleta Dumitru on May 11, 2007 01:45 PM  | Hide replies

He should come down at no. 3, as he is the best at this position then anybody in world cricket. His frame of mind suit's this position. Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma & Irfan Pathan should be there in the playing eleven, only then can India have a chance to be world beaters, Dinesh Mongia is a waist, his good cricketing days have passed off. The Standard of Indian Cricket team is very low, They struggled to beat Bangladesh in the first match, that really showed how low the stantard of the Indian cricket has fallen, its high time the Indian cricketers know that they are representing such a big country having the highest population and all these people expect a lot from them.

I feel you are right but if you want to know the mentality of Indian public its like this If Dravid comes at No.3 Indian public will say that he is selfish he wants to score runs for himself and does not want to give opportunity to youngsters. If he gives opportunity to youngsters then public would say that he is running away from responsibility. If such situation arises there is nothing one can do.
If we were the captain we cannot have done much about this thinking.

A few observations
by krishna jambur on May 11, 2007 01:10 PM  | Hide replies

Well, we won. And that's good. What was nice to see was that we no longer panic while chasing (some of these 200 scores can be tricky!!).

Even when the runs needed exceeded the balls by 10, it was good to see the calm approach. In fact I would agree with Sivaramakrishnan that whenever Karthik has got an opportunity, he has shown great temperament and has delivered.

However, our victory does not take away anything from Bangladesh. They seem to be performing well as a team. In fact the current Bangla team reminds me of the post '96 Lankan team - somehow they give a feeling that something is going to happen. The players seem to always plotting and planning something.

I would also like to add that yesterday's match could have swung either way and I would say that we won because Bashar missed a few tricks.

Mistake Number 1: When Karthik walked in, Bashar should have attacked him. He should have done this by not allowing Karthik to get off the mark. In fact Karthik had a few mistimed shots and close calls (the missed run-out chance was horrendous). Karthik slog-swept quite a few deliveries and before long, he had 20 odd runs to his name. Bashar should have brought in the sweeper man closer.

Mistake Number 2: Obviously the pressure to win was on Bangladesh and this showed in the defensive tactic employed by Bashar by trying to stop fours. This resulted in Yuvraj and Karthik picking up a lot of ones and twos. It was exasperating to watch the chasing team walk ones during the slog overs. It was a small ground no doubt, but I think Bangladesh gave too many easy ones and twos.
