Hi...Kalyan...Looks like the most competent person who should be on the Indian Board is you!

Give me a break man!!!...You talk as if you are an expert on Cricket. If you are, then what are you doing in rediff blog. Go out and capture the world...make your presence felt...then I will appreciate your comments.

Till such time, we shall take our dig at Sachins, Dravids and the useless Sehwags!!

chill man - Mr. Iyer .,

please show me where i have stated that i am more competent than BCCI. however if it comes to you and intelligence, then it is a different matter...

answer this ..
1. where were you when sachin hit 98 against Pak in WC'03 or 134/143 against aus in sharjah or 241 in sydney. were you taking a dig at sachin then?
2. how about dravid's 233 in adelaide? 270 in pak?
3. sehwag's 309?
4. ganguly's 144 in brisbane?

i am OK if you are critical of player's performances. i am too. but don't abuse them as individuals. however, i guess that is too much to ask from 'civilized' people like you.

Hi Kalyan,
You are right. Barring a few like Yuvraj, Dinesh and Dhoni, I havent seen any youngster who made their mark like what Sachin, Ganguly, Dravid and Sehwag did in their entries.
How many spectacular innings these youngsters played to remember? I remember only one innings of Raina winning a match against Pak singlehanded when we thought all was over. But by now he played lot of matches. I dont remember even one great knock (even though they scored lot of runs in unchallenged conditions)from other young talents like Robin Utappa, Gautham Gambhir etc.
Today we can count on only Yuvraj who had lot of great finishes to his account many times when we were on the way to loose.
I remember India under Azhar winning only when Sachin was playing and even when loosing it was only Sachin who was scoring runs. The way he destroyed the likes of Akram and Yunus at their peaks was amazing. Similar was the case with Ganguly making spectacular knocks against quality bowling that includes record braking win againt Pak who scored 314.Sehwag came in to lime light with quickest Indian century as opener when India needed such performance to win as well as at higher run rate.
While Chappel kept on talking about youngsters, I feel these youngsters played well only in favorable conditions.
Even now, they will make tons of runs in Bangladesh and convince all of us that young talent is more performing. Once we go to unfriendly tracks like Aus, SA Eng and even Malaysia we will see what happens

and for the hundredth time ...
by kalyan chatrathi on May 05, 2007 09:43 PM  | Hide replies

and i am saying this for the hundredth time ..

Indian cricket fans are mostly a pathetic bunch of losers. there are an insult to the term "fans". they don't know what it means to be honest to their team ..

if someone wants to know what it means to be "fans" - check out the history of BOSTON RED SOX Baseball team (try wikipedia). they won a championship in 1918 and for 86 years., they had cruel failures and still the fans filled up the stadium ever summer .. for 81 home games. The city of boston is to date the city of the red sox even though they have New England Patriots american football team(which has won 3 championships in 4 years 2001-05). thanks to the support of the fans and (a few miracles!), the team won a championship in 2004 after 86 years.

if you want to know what fans are like, try the HOUSTAN TEXANS american football team., probably one of the worst teams but the fans still support their team ..

and then we have the Indian cricket team fans., who support the team in days of victories and abandon them in the days of defeat. would you like to have a friend who abandons you in your down days and only wants to attend your success parties? Nope., yeah i guessed that ...

doesnt that make most of the indian fans pathetic ...

if you disagee with me., check out Mukul Kesavan's article on Indian fans on cricinfo....

its true that USA are not world champs in Basketball or baseball or football. But they are a lot better than India in sports. In every olympics the Great nation of United States of America wins more medals than any other country.
How many medals have we Indians won?????
The only thing we have to cheer about sports is SANIA MIRZA's boobs.

NFL has a lot of africans in the recent days.. i read somewhere in ESPN website last year that NFL has representation from 19 countries ..

and how many does India have?

Dude Americans have tried playing Baseball and Basketball with other countries. 99% of the time they get whooped by these countries like for example they finished seventh in the World Championships for Basketball the last time around. They are as bad as England in sports they have introduced. Oh PS: They were whooped in Baseball too. I think Japan won last yr or Cuba but yes no USA in sight.

US had a lot of medals in olympics till they changed the rules in 2000 limiting the no. of over-24 players. also, the rules of NBA are stress individual brillance unlike international competition. that has been a major criticism of the NBA

baseball World championships - oops, that hurts. yeah! Japan won last year and the americans lost in the QFs if i am not too wrong.

however, a majority of the stars of basketball and baseball play in US (incl the recent $100 mn Dice-K import from Japan)

something akin to latino players in Europe

But American football is not for intelligent people is it ? I always thought anyone mentally retarded enough to not being able to sum 2 5 would be subjected to playing American football and anyone more mentally retarded would be subject to following it diligently. Please, this is a discussion about a sport played by professionals not the activity that monkeys indulge in when they are fighting for the last crumb of bread

ankit - i disagree with you. i got introduced to the game in 2004 and am hooked on to it. the game requires a lot of intelligence both from the fans and the players.

the position of a QB is probably the most complex that sports presents. if you disagree, we can have a nice debate on this.

p - point taken. lets be critics of their performances. i am all for it., in numerous blogs i have showcased my unhappiness in performances turned out by the team ...

but the point is ...show me one instance where 'fans' cheered when players got hurt.

and lets talk abut world champs .. cricket is a world sports right? played in a total of 8 countries ...

the use of american sports was to showcase the profile of fans...

It is really pathetic to see all the negative comments abt dravid..What is wrong with all u guys? I really am not able to understand all the negative comments..But one thing is for sure.. V all r critics..No one does anything but v r all very good in criticising others..I really feel sorry for dravid..I hope he gets well soon..As for the ppl who are saying that it is good just for one min stand in his shoes and see how it feels like to be hit on the nose and collapse and bleed.Don't just be critical just for the sake of it.When ppl r suffering be sympathetic..No matter who it is no one deserves to suffer..

why am i not surprised to see 195 comments.,

let me think ... since we are Indians (and taking the risk of stereotyping) ... about 50% would have said "good riddance..he deserved it" and all sorts of nice things, 25% would have written in support of RP singh, 15% would have used it as evidence that dravid is no good., 10% would have defended against those 15%.

In all., 90% of the comments would have been negative ...

pathetic ....

And now you have seen people abusing you with ugly remarks.
People cant take other opinion in right sense. When things can be done from hidden identity, we all know how many ugly words can be used.
This is the culture we learnt all these years through great education working in MNCs.
Surprisingly I am sure most of these readers will use only "Sorry", "Excuse me" and "Please" in each sentence while working in their white collar offices in western environment.

Darvid should not leave. Because Sachins, Sauravs, Dhonis, Harbhajans and Sehwags let him down. He is fighter.
I think you fogot last world cup. He did wicket keeping for team India that give team a chance to add extra batsman in the team.
Dravid never got proper team and chance.

1. lara is 37., inzy 37 ..
2. fleming is 35 and has left ODI captaincy and will stay around for ODI squad, test captaincy and test squad.
3. vaughan is probably a worse imitation of VVS Laxman and shouldn't even be on the team (not that he lacks talent, but for his weak knee)
4. why should graeme smith go anywhere?
5. Mahela - is in his third year and had the best bowling attack (vaas, malinga, muthiah, fernando). still believe that sri lanka needs a power hitter in the middle order to finish good starts (someone in the mold of yuvraj or dhoni)
6. Ricky - he lucked it out. not that i am complaining, but guys., grow up and accept that the aussie cricket team is the most dominant team in the world of sports (incl outside cricket) and there are a dozen reason that i will leave out now ..
7. India: I will stick out my neck for our cricketers any day .. wanna knowm why? check my blog: http:chatrathikalyan.blogspot.com
the only people that i am against are the inept BCCI. it is filled with people with minimal knowledge of cricket and have no business to run the sport.

I really appreciate your point of view, and your comments are healthy & really well meaning . The main culprit is BCCI ,which has deliberately played filthy politics alongwith ,Chappel etc.
We can never be a sporting country. We can be filthy politician ,It matches with our politician mind(means politicians=dishonest)
Hence basically, the majority is dishonest ,which the main criteria to be a good politician in India.
hence ,we can never be good sports loving country. This is further borne out from the fact by the filthy & sick messages on MB,showing our sick state of mind.
The MB moderator should permanently cancel the membership on MB who are writing hundreds of such filthy messages.

Indian Cricketer Weakness Playing Bumper Persists
by Shivkumar Singh on May 05, 2007 08:57 PM  | Hide replies

Indians are poor players of short pitched ball. Most just duck. Remember the block Sunil Gavaskar.

While Gavaskar earned accolades in a hero starved India and scored good many runs, his speed of accumulation was pathetic. Remember his infamous crawl. Lasting 60 overs to score 30 odd runs in one day international - It was height of selfishness and ignoring team interests.

The only two fellows who played the hook/pull shot well were Mohinder Amarnath and Krish Srikanth.

Unfortunately the weaknesses against bumper still persist - Sachin's ankle getting hurt and Rahul Dravid getting a bloody nose are just symptoms of a deeper malaise - team's inability to effectively play the rising ball. This coupled with shoddy fielding is the reason why India remains a very average team.

Hi Shivkumar,
I was following cricket during radio days.
Many of my fellow-mates knew why Gavaskar avoided Bouncer in the later phase. In his early days Gavaskar played very fast even against mighty west indians. And we knew without managing bouncers no one could score 13 centuries against WI.It was only because team desperately needed him stay in each innings he decided to avoid bouncer. Gavaskar eventhough criticized as a selifish player was the great warrior who saved many matches for us. The last test innings of his career against Pakistan on a wearing pitch is the best of his all life.
Mohinder and Srikanth are good players not great like Gavaskar.
Other observation I know is that Indians were not really weak against bouncers. Our tail enders like Roger Binny, Madan Lal and Kirmani during those days were quite comfortable and made lot of runs through hooking.
If I am correct, Sanjay Manjrekar (Eventhough he started his career with a injury to bouncer)was the last Indian batsmen who played many spectacular innings against best fast bowling attacks of those days (Pak and WI).
It is now in modern cricket, when people can easily afford to avoid facing bouncers with lot of rules favoring batsmen. We still have players like Jaffer who is good at playing bouncing deliveries. And Sachin in his early days was superb at hitting bouncers.

even a roadside hawker selling vegetables and fruits without a liscense fights tooth and nail against anti-encroachment authorities and bribes local corporators so that his cart is not confesticated by them. so when issue of retiring or removal for non-performance comes , how can you expect a cricketer to voluntarily surrender when lakhs of rupees are earned in a single match and crores in advertisement. their is pressure from cricketers / advertisers and bcci as well. so forget about quality cricket.
functioning of bcci should come under rti act and made answerable to public or bcci should be given title of private body not related to country and patriotism. incometax from their activities should be charged commercially
