Great players are match winners?
by giri on Jan 16, 2007 07:09 PM  | Hide replies

I have watched sachin from the time he started his carrer, one off the great batsmen no two ways in that regard.but he is far away from bieng a legend, here is why?when was last time sachin one a match for us, when did he last recive man off the match, how long back did he score a centure in both forms of the game, when did he last daminate the bowlers or opposite team last, and list is endless.but legends do all obove consistely, example as recently as jayasuria, lara, inzy, all these players are lot older than sachin well all i can say is he can go down as lion even now.

How can we forget that he came back from injuries in recent times. and inspite of that he is always gave his 100%. Remember that legends are also humans and except Bradman i have never heard of a legend who did not have a rough patch. And even a legend can't do anything when the rest of the team is mediocre. Eg: Lara was in WI team for a long time and have anybody seen WI winning a big tournament? Even if they have won, it was chanderpaul or Sarwan or Gayle who contributed more than Lara.

Dinesh Acharya.S,

Hi Dinesh i Read your comments about Sachin. It really gives a feeling that you all still have believe on him.So if he doesn't play in a single match you guy's don't hesitate to put your great and unexperianced ideas. This is not your fault, its called indian culture to blame others for anything.I have a question for you,if you have a better player than sachin in team then why don't they make india win.If you remember the last world cup,it was only sachin who made india reach the final and no one played in final so there is sachin to be blamed.I think those people should stop watching cricket if they say there is another sachin in this world. Thanks

I guess Purists will have more realistic understanding of the game. They certainly know that in a game like cricket, sometimes bowlers dominate and sometimes batmen. u se there can be legends in bowling dept as well. And even sir Bradman got out for a duck in his last innings.

Hey dinesh. Gud assess ment. But dont u thk tht its a bit over statement. Sachin is a gr8 guy no dbt. tht. He is a match winner. How many performance dohe need to show u. 1995 sharjah, 1996 world cup, 2003WORLD CUP, australian series. Still a lot more matches where he single handedly took the match awa from many opponents. U told tht aussies would have kicked him out of the team. But in sir bradman's dream team he was there, he evn got the honor of sittin next to him. Wht else u need dude. Stop bein a narrow minded fela. Think abt the past. He is havin many injuries recently. Thts the biggest obstacle in his life. Except the indians people all around the world praises him like anythin. Its always easy to criticize somebdy's job, but very very difficult to do tht. keep in mind

Bangalore, Karachi , Mumbai and Now CapeTown

Indian Batting order while batting in 3rd/ 4th innings and stakes are High ..(Series deciders).have adopted a stratergy of extreme defense over Normal play . Have failed miserably each time.

Worse..all these matches happened in less than 2 years and more or less the same core batsman were at the helm.

Why did these batsmen commit the same mistakes at such a high frequency consistently??(4 Times in less two years is almost every series they played , spare Windies) .

To me- answer is they lack the mental gumption.

This failure of Indian Batting is not new especially on away series.

The famed batsmen have been almost always been more responsible than bowlers for our poor record away from home.

But still it is the World class batting lineup and our bowling club class . pretty unfair.

Bowlers Win matches and not batsmen
by on Jan 13, 2007 09:22 PM

I agree with much of the discussion about the indian batting in south africa. Our batsman are timid enough not to attack a rookie spinner playing in his first test match. So i dont want to add any more insult to injury.I would like to point out another hidden weekness which is like cancer in the indian criket and doesnot get any of the media attention, its indian bowling line up. Take any of the world cup 2007 front running teams and lets compare the probable playing eleven with indian elven..we can match some our batsman but when it comes to bowling we cannot match even one. If Indian batsman scores 250 or less on a good batting track i dont think our bowling can put the opposition in any sort of trouble. Batsman cannot always score 300 and in case of india even if batsman score 300 on a good pitch our bowling look every inch of not able to defend it. Hard truth but India doesnt have bowling to win test matches outside india and in ODIs doesnt have bowling resources to restrict any side :(

Its a game
by on Jan 13, 2007 03:46 PM

Its a game,, it is not about winning or losing..why do we use cricketers as an excuse for justifying our lazy indulgent self critical low self esteem mind set.
Its a game..
There are winners and losers,, and like life.. nothing is permanent..
ITs a game..
When are we going to start appreciating the opposing team..
Its a game..
Is is only victory that we want.. then buy dart boards..and play alone..or play chess with yourselves..
Its a game..

Revel in the game.. step out and play yourself..
all you opinionated people...out there..
ITS A GAME>>>>>>

Sachin is not the reason
by Sudhakar Govindarajan on Jan 13, 2007 02:55 AM

Cricket is a team game. Its very rare that one player is attributed to a success or a failure. To blame Sachin for the III Test debacle is too harsh on him. According to me, the few umpiring decisions that went against India in a Test match that swung either ways was the critical factor. To list out some the decisions that went horribly wrong from an Indian perspective:

1. Karthik & Jaffer were batting beautifully on the first day & South Africans appeared clueless to break the partnership. Thanks to Asad Rauf they were able to make some inroads!

2. Sachin was clearly not out in the II innings.

3. Kallis clearly nicked a ball on the leg side, and was not given out in the II innings. The wicket of Kallis at that stage would've definitely shaken the South Africans at that stage.

Even with just about 20 odd runs to get, Kallis & Prince were struggling and Tendulkar had Prince lbw, that was not given! Crucial umpiring decisions cost India the game.

To blame Sachin for his slow batting is completely wrong. What Sachin was trying to do then was completely eliminate the possibility of defeat. As we saw on the final day, the pitch was not playing a minefield as some thought out to be. According to Greg Chappell, it was still a "very good wicket to bat on". Lets not try to find a scape goat and play the media to the masses

India has three match winner in ODI.
1.Tendulker,2.Ganguly,3.Sehwag as per ranking.Beside them Yuvraj and Dhoni are togetherly could hold no 4. position.Others can only make a little support to win.Everybody could go under off form.Could you suggest the exact replacement of first three guys?We general guys can not be their critics.

in series drawn 34 57 5 2723 241* 193 179 52.36 7 13 4
in series lost 53 89 5 3724 177 169 155 44.33 12 18 8
in series won 48 71 12 4221 248* 217 201* 71.54 16 12 1
Above is the stat for tendulkar. The reaon for the debacle in SA was the poor caaptaincy of Draivd. He didn't lead from the front and he failed to react during key stages of the game.So Draivd and Chappell should be trhown out.

I agree with you.No one want to realise the root cause and this is the incapability of Dravid and of course the worst chappel, actually he destroy the team India of Ganguly era.He could not make any intellegent move or produce any good player.A good player may not be a good coach always.I am sure India will realise after World Cup.Ultimately we would be the sufferer. So stop blaming individuals and being with them.

You guys are looks like GOD of cricket.Mostly Mr.Dinesh Acharya.S. You know what is cricket. First you learn cricket then pass comment to a Great cricketer like Sachin. For me There is Sachin is uncomparable with anyone in the world. If you see the records also. Leave the batting, how many times he saved by his bowling. If you see the recent records also his batting avarage is much more that Dravid. Hence don't comparing anyone with Sachin.

After all you all are comparing Sachin with others not Dravid or anyone else because you also know that he is the person who can really chage the things arround. It is time for you all to stop comments on anyone and just watch the game.
