Politics in INDIAN Cricket
by siva kumar on Jan 10, 2007 06:10 PM  | Hide replies

Dear All,
What ever we discuss nothing is going to change in INDIAN Cricket. Every thing is politically influenced. So we better stop Talking about the Cricketers & their performance, Stop watching Cricket. We are responsible for everything. Cricketers get paid well in millions. What you get nothing but disappointment. OUR CRICKETERS are not playing for INDIA, they play for themselves (Advertisement & Popularity) So we all better think about stop supporting our Cricketing heros & concentrate on our goal.

it's not the way......

it's a history that India lost....but we people over enthusistic when india wins and in the same way we deeply Criticizing the same bunch of players. we are too emotional for the game of cricket. we should be just a fan. when playes are doing well we need to Appreciate them. when they are not doing well we need to back them.after all we all followed the cricketers from our childhood days. we have seen them done miracles for our country.

we as an individual strongly misleaded by the media according to the south afric test series. we all know dravid and couple of guys got wrong desicions in the first innings of the third test.and same thing happened for sachin in second innings. we all know that one wrong decision could possibly change the result. we need to put it into the right perspective.could we r fighing for improving the results.....it is not the first time happening.for sachin it happened lot of time.it's natural that umpires also human being but they are profesionlas.when they r going to learn...if samething happened for australia....media people will be silent like this.....it's total misconception that we all redirected in the wrong manner......

and about players, we need to agree that our players are talented bunch....they could have done well in this series....but we have a match first time in south africa.....may be the next time we could win the series......

i request all you people, please watch game as just a game...not like some for between two countries. just enjoy game and admire hero's of the game from our own country.

Sachin

People are talking about Sachin not playing well. It's just that innings where he might have been asked to play the way he played. How sure are those who accuse him of not playing his natural game that he might have been instructed by the team management to do so? We've heard talks of the team management that Sachin would play a different role. And that's what he's been doing. The reason for the last test debacle is not just Sachin's failure with the bat. It's the poor captaincy and poor team selection. On such a wicket, Harbajhan should've played instead of the out of sorts Munaf. Also, Sachin should've been given the ball on the 4th day itself!

its nothing about performing well or not... it is just about the right attitude... just look at sreesanth and kaartik, they showed fighter instinct... which was never there with any of the so called seniors... just one request, let them not pour water over the fire... by asking these youngesters to mellow down... we guys are fed up with indian gentlemen like srinath on the feild, who just apologise to the batsman after bowling a bouncer.. lets infuse more fresh blood of rougues who breathe fire on feild... showing raw power, brutal aggression and never say attitude... it's going to be the norm of the day... letem go and kick ass..

That is absolute nonsense, my friends. What has the captaincy to do with Sachin's fear against the bowlers.I think Sachin is too engrossed in saving his wicket rather than playing balls to their merit. He is absolute plastic these days, very different from his original style.

Sachin

Just some food for thought here: We all know that it is quite sometime that Sachin ceased to be his once brilliant self.

I feel that IF HE WAS DROPPED (YES, GIVEN THE AXE) MUCH EARLIER, he would have got the message, brushed up his cricket and would have re-emerged as the formidable warrior that we all want him to be.

Instead of that, we just hang on to him, with the team actually gaining nothing from his presence. Blame our desi sentiment of star-worship be it sports, politics or movies. Time we learned a thing or two from how people elsewhere do things....

Dravid does not understand Competetive Sport
by isla huddin on Jan 10, 2007 01:48 PM  | Hide replies

Going by the way Dravid bats , it is pretty clear that he does not understand what is competitive sport. It is all very right to give aggressive answers to media, but he has not shown any aggressive intent with his bat nor captaincy. Anyone can hit an half volley to four and then defend all day, but as an major batsman he has to take charge and dominate bowlers which he is incapable of.

Left to himself he will sleep on the pitch and drive people away from cricket.

Sachin has got too much into self preservation mode. In recent past, when team needs to set target in second innings, he has batted very slow and is seen playing for an loss/draw rather than victory. He needs to be dropped to prove that Indian cricket is bigger than him.

It is an insult to Lara and Ponting that Sachin is compared with them. Shaun Pollock bats better than Sachin.

I absolutly agree with you Isla, Sachin shouldn't be compared with both Lara & ponting.

Having scored 75 international tons with better average,we never see him playing with winning commitment.

Sachin THE GREAT!!!!
by on Jan 10, 2007 01:32 PM

You guys have to understand ONE thing. Sachin Tendulkar ever since his early days has been prone to BAD umpiring decisions.

Whereas the BEST player in the indian team was given out when the ball was clearly missing the stumps, the BEST player of SA(Kallis) got a repreive of teh FIRST ball of his innings.

I believe it is something really psychological with respect to the umpires when its comes to decisions on Sachin. May be they think he is TOO good a batsman to be given a life and decide badly. I think the ICC should take a note of this. He gets atleast 2 bad decisions in a series.

I can't remember the no of times sachin has been presented a bad desicion!!!!

Commercials

There should be review on the performance of the players and new players should be given a chance to prove their mettle and worth.Depending too much on Tendulkar and Sehwag will again result in another failure. I wonder why every player fails whenever he does a TV commercial or appointed as an brand ambassador for any product.

Sachin Tendulkar %u2013 Hero or Hype

Hero (noun) 1 person noted or admired for nobility, courage, outstanding achievements, etc. 2 chief male character in a play, story, etc.

Hype slang --- (noun) extravagant or intensive promotion of a product etc. --- (verb) promote with hype.

While the first defines a person; the second merely relates to a commodity, a product.
So right at the outset, the argument here is how can a person be compared to as just a mere commodity?
Grammatically speaking, my argument for the motion would be well rested by both Wren & Martin. With absolute ease.
But then again, my argument goes well beyond your rules of grammar, Sir Wren & Sir Martin.
Colloquially speaking, and giving benefit of doubt to all those who beg to differ my argument, I rest my case on the fact that Sachin was a yesteryear hero and today%u2019s biggest hype.

How else does one explain 11 consecutive non-performing test scores (22 innings)? And this from a hero who should be shinning brighter with each passing year having amassed all the experience of batting.

A hero at the age of 16. A true Indian cricketing hero. With so much might to stand against the fieriest bowlers of world cricket. Truly Sachin stood taller than all of them.

Sixteen years later; a brand ambassador to more than half a dozen products/commodities. A business partnership and part owner of restaurants christened by his very own name. Where does this leave him any room and time for his cricket?
Isn%u2019t it only obvious that a natural demise of his cricketing talent has finally dawned?

So a hero at 16 has now become a hype for some of the world%u2019s best products. Is this hype not then directly related to the person who has created that hype?
While this hype is partly self-created, our nation has played a major latter part of sustaining this hype.
What they never realized that doing so they are also raising their own level of expectations and it is for Sachin to make sure that threshold is never reached. But it has crossed, many a times.
The recent booing at Wankhade; at his own home turf, clearly shows that there are some who have awakened and have seen past all his vague, irregular scoring. They are the section of cricket lovers who cannot be fooled by one good inning that comes after countless failed innings.
His injury comes at an appropriate time. Both for him and Indian cricket. Maybe two months off the cricket scenario will help him clear his conscience and rise above all this and play good cricket just like the 16 year old hero OR maybe not.
For Indian cricket, maybe this is the time to tap young talent and give them a chance to be heroes and not mere hypes.

I have a lot to write, but maybe what I have written drives home the point. Not just to Sachin Tendulkar, but to all the cricket lovers, and I mean true cricket lovers and not blind followers who fail to recognize hypes from true heroes.

We all know, when sachin scores century, we somehow tend to loose.

India has successfully chased big totals and created a world record (18 successful wins while batting second or whatever) in the absense of Sachin. Its not a mere coincidence. Its just that players become more responsible in his absence.

Warne and Mcgrath are the ideal examples. They retired when they were still being praised. Thats how they will be immortals.

I don't want my Sachin to go Gavaskar/Shrikanth/Shastri/Kapil and Devanand's way. They still believe they are good enough, but ultimately its their fans who made them retire.

I think Sachin should be immortal like Warne and Mcgrath. This is the ideal time for him to step down.

the general opinion of all rediff readers is that Indian team is embarassing. I hold the same opinion. Just when things start looking up and you start to think that the team will put up a fight and start beleieving them, thats when things tumble like a pack of cards and we lose faith and we are ashamed...Indian cricket always goes down without a fight...truly tendulkar was good in his intial years..he does not deserve to be grouped in the same category as lara. cricketers like lara, ponting, and even bangladesh batsmen are far better than SRT. he should be asked to play ranji. and whats with this rampant experimentation..chappell and his weird ways will spell doom for indian cricket. i say we should all stop watching cricket and then lets see who pays these cricketers and the ads...i am really really ashamed of our cricket team!!!
