IPL lays out revenue-sharing plan with franchises
by Raghupathy Sethuraman on Dec 18, 2007 10:55 PM

The bidding process for the eight franchises that will compete in the Indian Premier League has officially begun with the release of the prospectus for the inaugural Twenty20 competition beginning in April 2008.

The tender inviting bids for the franchises will be announced sometime in December. Potential franchisees can submit bids for more than one city-team and must state the total fee they are offering for a franchise for the first ten-year term. The auction of players will immediately follow the awarding of the franchises.

The prospectus also laid out the manner in which the IPL's revenue would be shared with the franchises. The franchises will receive 80% of the television revenue over the first two years, 70% in the third and fourth years, 60% between years five and ten, and 50% from the 11th year onwards. In addition, they will also receive 60% of the sponsorship revenue during the first ten years, after which they will receive 50%.

Of the total amount to be distributed, 20% will be divided based on the final league positions of the franchises while the other 80% will be shared squally. The IPL's distribution model, which is based on their current forecasts for the first contracts for centralized television and sponsorship agreements, should be adjusted should the forecasts change.

The competition comprises 59 matches and spans 44 days with each franchise playing the other on a home and away basis. The top four teams qualify for the semi-finals, the win

Poor Quality!!
by Manoj Mehta on Dec 18, 2007 08:11 AM  | Hide replies

Quality of cricket was very poor. Most of the times teams were struggling to complete 20 overs while batting.

Don't look at stats. They do not reflect the actual quality.

wat the hell... did u even watch ICC t20 WC.... pak lost 9 wickets against scotland....
aus lost 9 wickets against zimbabwe....
eng allout against australia...
nz allout against india....

and more were there....
infact the pitches were more conducive for batting in ICC WC....

The fact that bowlers bowled well doesnt take the sheen of the quality of the matches.... The matches were of good quality..... and if u cant accept, then its a one man ptoblem.....

icl was a dream come true
by jaspreet mavi on Dec 18, 2007 01:40 AM  | Hide replies

wel im from chandigarh and watched 3 matchesof icl...well i can tell u its much better than what we get in terms of facilites from bcci...we were allowed to carry any food inside along with cameras and any flag..the music system inside was mindblowing and the dance performances were superb during over breaks..along with music..well facilities were gr8 takin into account the whole stadium was readied in just 24 days time..it was just a simple one without any facilities..well i watched india vs pak at mohali and we were not allowed to even carry any phones and even indian flags were thrown on the roadsides....there was even a news item abt this...and the food was worst inside...just to get tickets we had to stand in queues even to get highly priced tickets of pavilion blocks...well i wil jsut say tickets for icl were priced at just 100 and i think it was money well spent..everytime...i hope the bcci learns from them and can provide atleast facilities to we spectators inside the stadiums and not ashame our national flag....

Dude had you carried the national flag with Pawar or Niranjan SAAA's picture instead of Ashok Chakra, they would have allowed you. You know these guys should be convicted for crime against cricket and punished....

Oh thats really nice to hear that. After a long time good competitor to BCCI. Lets hope that next time when the event is organised its venues would be multiple not just Panchkula. By having multiple venues the interest level of people would be greater.

Did anyone hear Zakka Jacob of Headlines Today commenting that ICL as flop show and consists of a bunch of 2 ne level and retired cricketers. See this is the kinda propaganda ICL gets. This is their first year and if they can organize a decent event inspite of the numerous obstacles posted by Pawar SAA and Co, then imagine how good they can get if they get half the benefits that BCCI gets!!!! Instead of rebucking ICL, lets look at them seriously. Honestly, theyve shown that they can put up a good show, not if ICL foldsup the losers are the viewers and the cricketers and associates involved in it. if ICL folds, it measn we are back to the dictatorship of BCCI.It would also reassert the statement"BULLYING WINS"

Jaspreet, Nice to see your honest comments. ICL needs such appreciation to make the next tournament a better spectacle. We want someone to teach BCCI a lesson in terms of preparing good sporting pitches, good facilities and unearthing a real talent and I feel ICL can do that.
