Marginalisation of chennai cricketers
by peter indian on Dec 18, 2007 12:18 AM  | Hide replies

Chennai cricketers have won both BCCI and ICL Twenty20 tournament still they never get picked for international cricket. I still wonder why, i guess may be because they don't know Hindi, poor fellows...

well there is always some discrimination on the basis of region.but its not because hindi.for almost many a decade players of karnataka and mumbai have been in numbers in cricket team.in this tournament T.kumaran was the one who did inspire.but his age is matter of concern as a fast baller, not to mention he got a place in indian side as well.kumble, dravid, srisanth, laxman or ganguli,sachin..none of them are from hindi land...what about dinesh kartik,,and balazi and venugopal rao ,who couldn't grab their chances.you should not blame it in this way

My friend, India is a big country with a huge cricket following. There are many good players who miss the bus by a whisker. Not because they are not good enough but because there are'nt enough space to accomodate everyone. I would not entirely say, it was descrimination against tamils or southies. Even players from other parts of India including North have borne the brunt. I am not saying politics and favoritism does not exist, but all i am saying that, it is not everything. Players like Munaf and Irfan come from families that could not even affort cricket kits, but they have come a long way, what kinda backin they could have had.In a democratic organization sometimes, u got to please a few people. Thats how it is, even if the individual is good, he cannot function at his will in a democratic setup. So folks from TN do not get into this whirlpool. There are many states, that do not get proper representation. See we have 15-17 slots and 29 states. So we gotto undertand certain ground realities before we point guns

Every indian should learn Hindi..It doesn't matter the player is from any part of the country..There are many players from TN who played for india for long time. It is only the player performance not the region.

BCCI Should have been sunk long time ago -Countrys biggest scam organisation
by hinduhitler on Dec 17, 2007 11:26 PM

If our politicians had not allowed this scam organization to get away during last match fixing issue . there were clear evidences, including phone conversations of top BCCI officials fearing Govt takeover. yes it did happen look now who heads it.

Show commonsense - Support a new Venture !
by Girish K on Dec 17, 2007 10:42 PM  | Hide replies

I have read with interest most of the comments in this discussion, most of them have been supportive to ICL while a few are critisizing them. All I have to say is this is a new venture and to believe that it should display the quality of an international team or even a county team is nothing other than stupidity.

Dear friends, we have been playing cricket for the past several years in our country and can anyone tell me how many fast bowlers were produced by BCCI talent team? Everyone knows that BCCI owes a lot of gratitude to MRF pace foundation for producing world class fast bowlers. Did anyone think in the first year of it's existence that this foundation will become the factory for producing fast bowlers in India?
Similary people have to be patient with ICL, since this is their first major venture and we should appreciate that they have done a reasonably good job in their first outiing.

The problem with we indians are we are very good at critisizing people, differentiating people but do not know how to live peacefully in unity. I was reading the other day on rediff abt Micheal bevan's interview where he said that Australia never treat any players as superstars, they play for the country and their aim is to win for the country.

Here we treat individual players as superstars, their minor achievements are magnified by the media and BCCI,unnecessary awards and felicitation,on top of all crores of rupees worth ad income,so it is no wounder why our team is like this.

There actually are good fast bowlers in India.. But talent is not enough here to get selected into the team.. You definetely need political influence (lots of it). So, there are many good players unable to even enter the state ranji team whereas people with "influence" are going places.

A new Beginning
by BHASKAR CHOUMAL on Dec 17, 2007 09:42 PM

ICL is a new beginning in INDIAN Cricket. It must be welcome. It will face a tough time when subsidiary of BCCI IPL will come, wishing them best of luck. A long list of unidentifited talent can now have a good international platform.
