ganguly's knock
by biswanath roy on Dec 11, 2007 10:12 AM  | Hide replies

india where 61 /4, it looked we would be shot out for 200, however ganguly & yuvraj batted bravely & saved india from the blushes. earlier in 2006 in pakistan the same pair batted bravely and reduced the margin of india's defeat in the 3rd test at karachi. ganguly on many ocassion has pulled india out from embrassing situations like the 144 he scored in brisbane in the 1st test in 2003, and with laxman saw india from 75 /4 to a score over 400. scoring runs when the team is in a dump indicates the fighting spirit & tough mentality of a player. this quality is present in dravid, yuvraj& laxman. the world's greatest rarely scores when india is in the dumps. if one analyses his high scores it will be seen they have been scored when india had got a good start, like his 240 not out at sydney was when dravid, sehwag& akash chopra had given a decent start to the team. then his 194 not out in multan 2004 was when sehwag had already blasted a quickfire 309 and india were in a comfortable position. when this worthy was expected to save india he failed miseably on all ocassions in south africa in 2006, in the karachi test in 2006,in the nat west trophy in england 2002, when kaif & yuvraj pulled off a sensational win for india. getting big scores, when the sun shines does not show your element.
we should anayse his performances with respect to india's position when he came to bat, before declaring him the best batsmen in the world. that mantle goes 2 ponting & sanghakara.

Only in Brisbane 2003 and now he rescued team India. He played 99 test matches and did it twice. Where the hell he has gone other times. Where the hell his mental ability gone in the remaining 97 test matches.
I will tell you what happened in the remaining test matches. He would have converted 61/4 into 61/5 or 75/4 into 74/5 in the space of ONE BALL. This has been the story with Ganguly. Dravid and Laxman played numerous innings like this in India's test victory.

Greatness of a player is decided by what he does and Ganguly has done it this time! Let's recognise him at least for now and leave it to the future to brand him the way he concludes.

Arafat had given the visitors a good start in the match with a three-wicket burst in the morning session. He claimed the wickets of Rahul Dravid [Images] (19), Wasim Jaffer [Images] (17) and VVS Laxman (5) as India were reduced to 61 for 4.
"Early on the pitch was supporting the fast bowlers. Wanted to bowl on and outside off. I got wickets because of that. My coach and captain had told me to keep it accurate. It's a five-day game and it's a long time. So I just did that. There was no swing," he said.
"The pitch was helping early on. If you hit the good areas, there was help. After lunch it became a good wicket and was playing very easy," he added.

Pathan lost his swing, and does not look penetrative. Ishant Sharma is spraying all over, without ever creating any pressure on the batsmen. Dada is much better than both of them.

Misbah-ul-haq is a clone of Inzamam-ul-haq and is the most dangerour batsman ever in all forms of game. He will break all the records when he will retire from cricket. Sachin did not stand in front of such a dangerous cricketer. I salue his great game.

misbah ki asli testing to tab hogi jab australia ke saamne khelega..wo bhi test. India/Pakistan ki pitches hi aisi hai koi bhi aake century maar jaaye. kisi bhi player ko Sachin se sab compare kyoun kar lag jaate hain log itni jaldi. i like Pieterson's batting but he cannot be compared with any legendary batsmen so early, at least 50 tests and 150 ODIs must be played so that he can be compared

Ishant Sharma has had a poor debut bowling being quite wayward. He needs a full domestic season bowling a lot more under an experienced mentor. So he can be thought of in 2009.Until then he has to work on his bowling getting his line right to be Test class. He has ability and all the makings of a good medium fast bowler.
This means that the pace attack for Aus will be Zaheer Khan,R.P.Singh,Irfan,Munaf? and inevitably Agarkar. It looks like Agarkar will get in inevitably.

Prospects should play in lesser matches. Only the best bowlers should play in Test matches. Too bad if India does not have a better bowler than Ishant Sharma.

Former Australian captain Ian Chappell feels India have committed a big "mistake" by not including Virender Sehwag in the list of probables for their Australian tour as the Australia still fear the swashbuckling opener. "India have made their first big mistake and the team hasn%u2019t even been selected, let alone set foot on Australian soil. Now was not the right time to give up on Virender Sehwag," Chappell said.

The-29-year-old Sehwag failed to make the list of the 24 probables, which will be pruned to 16 on Wednesday. Chappell said Sehwag%u2019s stupendous show in the last tour in 2003-04 still haunted the Australians and his presence would have given India a psychological edge.

He can not only score a Test hundred, he can also do it in a hurry and against new ball bowlers. The batsmen%u2019s role is to score quickly in order to give the bowlers as long as possible to take the required 20 wickets to win a Test.

"Sehwag%u2019s batting leaves you with more time than a flight that arrives early," he said.

Chappell said with Sehwag, India had a chance to tame Aussie pace spearhead Brett Lee. "If for no other reason, India should have played
Sehwag against Australia just to see if he could rattle Brett Lee and force him to forget the McGrath impersonations," Chappell said.

Lets also not forget friends... Sehwag also is the only INDIAN player in History of Indian Test cricket to ever score a triple century (309 against Pak). No other Indian has reached 300 in

Chappel is talking of Sehwag's past glory. At present he is not batting even at half of himself. He has been given more opportunities than what he deserves. Handling Australian fast bowlers on australian pitches requires patience and technique which Sehwag does not have. what is the fun if he scores one 50 or 100 in 50 innings. he does not have consistency.

cmon guys stop criticizing karthik..agreed he played awfully this series..if u start eliminating youngsters like that well end up like zimbabwe..
remember how long yuvi, kaif and bhajji took??
if we dont curb this attitude of pheko ek series me nahi khela to then we d have no future yuvraj's.
dhoni is the captain and plays all 3 forms of cricket and dont u think we need to buffer karthik for the future.. yes parthiv is in the Q but exposing him at this age would make him go down like reethinder sodhi, amol majumdar, kaif..
drop karthik but dont talk as if it was a blunder picking him.. these things happen

Ganguly failed for more than a year.Ask him if had any problems that he was dropped. He will say 'NO'.
He says he had problems with the way he was dropped. Who is responsile for that? Nobody but himself. He is the one who started in the press conference after that century against ZIM.
Dravid has not failed as much as Saurav did. Even if he did, he still deserves more chances than Saurav, as he a much quality player than him.
He is out of the ODI side. He or his fans are not blaming Saurav for that. Just Move on.

I personally feel, after ganguly, dinesh kartick and dhoni are true fighter.
