Manas Sen
Foreign Coach
by Manas Sen on Dec 05, 2007 01:29 PM

I personally believe that there is nothing wrong in having a foreign coach. John Wright was a foreigner but he has so far been the most successful of all the coaches we have had. Success or failure of a coach depends to a great extent on what values he brings on the table in terms of ideas. It is also important that he mixes well with the team members, prefers to remain in the background and boosts the players' confidence through proffessional advice.

It is true that even without a coach we are doing quite well. but the presence of a coach can take away a lot of burden from the shoulders of the senior players, who can concentrate more on their respective areas like bowling or batting.

With Dhoni being groomed as the future test captain, it is necessary that he gets all the inputs he needs from the coach and the senior players at this early juncture of his captaincy.

And for, heaven's sake let us stop blaming Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly or Laxman for all the ills of Indian Cricket. They have served the country well and are still quite valuable to the team, each in his own way.

Best of luck Indian Cricket team.

Global Mind set
by pramodm on Dec 05, 2007 12:50 PM  | Hide replies

Today it is no longer nations but global concept that rules the world. Today businesses are global. We Indians got most benifitted due the global sourcing concept. Where ever the skill resides use it for our betterment. We are so narrow minded when we say we will get coached only by Indians. Indians have a lot to offer to the world and the world has a lot to give to India. Rest of the arguments are all irrelevant. For that matter, a blind man cannot lead another. We need coaches we set high expectations, challenge the complacent and raise the level of team spirit. Just look, after scoring 400 runs for three wickets, our team played slow game because each individual wants to prove a point that he too can make a century to save his position. As a result we were slow and the match ended in a draw. With 400 runs for three on board, with sachin, Ganguly, Laxman who have years of experience and tons of runs, they played such a game which can not make India win. But surely each one records grow fat. We have individual mind set and as a result team goal will always secondary. A coach who challenges and demands is bad. And so it is better we have calf like Indian coaches. Instead if u want to have a world class beaters, then go for not Indian coach or Foreigh coach, but best coach whoever he may be.

A valid point..

I agree with some of the things Mr.Wadekar has mentioned especially with regards to the team's recent successes in England, World Twenty20 and the IndoPak series. Seriously speaking its a no-brainer when it comes to deciding whether a team made up of more than six 30 yr olds and a batting line up that could even make the game's greatest look stupid.

This Indian team at the moment does not need a coach. They have been operating well like band of brothers and seem to have coped well with the split captaincy. Gary Kirsten would only look like a monkey on their backs.. in other words.. a distraction. The BCCI can suck at whatever they want but appointing Kirsten as coach was a big NO NO. He may have been a decent player but as a coach he has no resume !

kirsten is the second best choice after Venkapathy Raju.Raju should have been chosen indian coach.if Raju has declined the offer then only Gary kirsten should have been appointed the Indian coach.
venkatapahty Raju is a man of tremendous talent.

EVERYTHING KEEPS CHANGE Mr.WADEKAR,-NOTHING REMAINS THE SAME
by jeyaprabu jeganathan on Dec 05, 2007 06:51 AM

Dont keep saying v didnt have this ,v didnt have that and still v won during our days...everythings is evolving...and cricket is also..a good coach need not be a good player and vise versa...
Also a good player wont always be a bad coach....
only if experience fetch u job then most will be jobless..experience matters but not the only one that matters...
Let him have a go for 2 years and c how he performs..if he does well he would have with him a good bunch of youngsters(by that time most seniors wld have retired) and will have a solid one and half year to work for the WC. If he dont put in a new coach.....
its the right time to take the chance ...
People dont criticise any before letting him do his job.

Dhoni/Kumble and Kirsten is an ideal combination.
by computer learning on Dec 05, 2007 03:15 AM

Dhoni/Kumble and Kirsten is an ideal combination for the job of India Cricket Team coach.

All three are charming - and either duel of Dhoni/Kirsten or Kumble/Kirsten will provide an awesome leadership to the team in the coming future.

See what kind of magic happens in the coming months in Australia and SA. Team India will win comfortably at both the places.

Vengsarkar knocked off by Dravid backers!
by Gen Zia on Dec 04, 2007 10:21 AM  | Hide replies

Beware of Dravid, the YESMAN of BCCI !! The moral of the story is that if you drop Dravid for being a non-performer he is gonna get you with his dirty politics.

from cricketnext:

"And also that there are murmurs in the Board suggesting that Vengsarkar was forced out by corporates, cricket agents and Board officials because he dropped Rahul Dravid."

dravid kept silent even after so much humiliation now ganguly has failed in last 5 innings in odis has vengi guts to drop him?
vengsarkar has no self respectvengasarkar was biased to drop dravid from odi team after one series faillure. now he is only facing result of his badwork. vengi nevefr supported dravide as captain and always criticised dravid in public and his articles
now ganguly last five innings are not upto mark has vengi courage to drop ganguly form odi teamf?
chief selector tried to perside tendulkar to make him captian offering him capticy till SA saeries but tendulkar declined his offer now vengi will take revenge against tendulkar the way he did to dravid?
How much dvengi dropped dravid from the odi team bcuz of his ego problem.Even he called dravid one dimanatioanll player knowing that dravid in odis has 10 K runs, highest catcht holder and highest winning % as captian. As a chief selector vengsarkar never supported dravid instead he always insulted dravid by giving biased statement / criticising dravid at the end of series 0r beginning of match in the public. no other senior player dropped from odi team after just failure in one series
But dravid did not utter a single word in media against any body or vengi but vengsarkar now using media and try to save his face. vengsarkar should be sacked from the post

You loser.

This player has been performing the best for India in tests and ODIs both.

It was because of his excellent handling of Shoaib that we won the first test!

His test average in the last 10-12 innings is close to 50!!

What more do you want loser?

BCCI good for nothing
by Sakthivel Kannan on Dec 04, 2007 09:29 AM  | Hide replies

After jonty rodhes retired from ODI, he expressed his interest to coach (fielding) india. BCCI didnt consider him. Similarly after retiring wasim Akram also expressed his interest to coach(bowling) india. For this Also there is no comments from BCCI. After bring two minnows to super powers Whatmore expressed his interst in coaching india, but for this also BCCI rejected his offer and placed county coach Ford as Indian coach. Now above all this we have V.Prasad who has no records or achievements in his career as bowling coach, robin singh who just falls on the field when the ball crosses him (when no body dives or falls then he will be considered as hero) as fielding coach, then a coach who has no international exp is appointed as Team coach. I dono what to do with this BCCI. I dono whether BCCI paying them or they are paying BCCI for appointing them as coach

Jonty and Wasim when they expressed their interest in coaching India , even they did not have any experience in coaching . With Jonty's presence , SA hasn't improved much in fielding. The stats of a player do not contribute as a coach to a team's improvement. Even Ford had coached SA during their peak . But it is still a big surprise to pick Kirsten as coach of India without much of coaching experience . Since experienced coaches like Greg chappell had not achieved much with indian , this must be an experiment . A big gamble , we have to wait and see the outcome.
