poor captain

if we can take 6wickets on final, why cant we bowl out by opting followon, they are playing at internaltional level. on 4th day morning india bowled just less than 1hour and that too khan and sreesanth haven't bowled a single ball, so they both had overnight rest and on top of that the conditions was so good for fast bowlers with overcast conditions. it is defenielty a stupid reason for not opting follwon, so with his message he mean to say there is no place for follwon in this books. they are not playing in indian summer but playing in england with sweaters. so wat a stupid statement by saying "it is easy for people to comment sitting in living room" better dravid quit. if you remember aussies in there last tour to india with not this kind of score, but still they asked india to bat again. with his statement it clearly shows he is tired not the other players, so better quit or either play test or ODI, dont make harsh comments on indian cricket lovers, dravid you cannot justify your decesion my making idiotic comments to yr intelligent country men.

Come on,guys did we truly win the series ?We almost lost the ist match.Dravid was too much interested in keeping 1-0 lead, rather than grasaping a convincing 2-0 victoty. Its unacceptable not only as a wrong decision, but also as uninspiring attitude from the indian captian.

Regarding Ganguly, people must check his batting avg both in onedays and test matches during his captaincy, to recall that he hardly made any good score during that period. He remained as captain for long, coz of the good perception of his leadership. How cd we forget that we all(barring Bengalis)demanded his removal, when Ganguly kept loosing matches and his contribution with bat was minimum. And dont forget Dravid made great contribution with his bat during Gangulys captaincy. Now,only coz Ganguly made 57,how can anyone say that he should be made captain again?

pls, look at young bunch of players like Karthik,Dhoni,Zaheer who continue to play with great sence of responsibility.Karthik single handedly brought a sense of purpose and infused a new vigour into this aimless indian team. With them lies the future of indian team.

Senior players like Tendulkar,Ganguly and Dravid have stopped playing for the team. They are merely looking for personal advancement. Also busy in groupisim, lousy politics. Its high time for them to retire from cricket, join real politics to use their manipulating skills.

How can you draw, when you finish with a win? Shameless cowards.

Only a team of losers like India would not think to win a match, and the series 2-0. Instead they took the Hindu non-confrontational meek draw approach. Shame on Dravid and his meek, step-on-us team.

How the heck can you be ok with 1-0, when it should be 2-0. Australia would have played to win.

Idiot meek lambs. Selfish matchfixed cowards.

And how can you celebrate not winning, but drawing. You had every chance to make it 2-0.

Australia have Brett Lee Tait like bowlers and had Warne also.

If we could take only 6 wickets in 110 overs mostly on last day of the match.
mind you India batted for 58 overs only. How much of those you give for taking remaining batsmen ? atleast 30 overs?

Then what we could have done in 28 0vers ? 120 or 130 runs that much only for test field setting.

The match was draw even then but loosing was an open option.

On day 4 it was rained. So ball was swinging tremendously, I am damn sure England might got out by 200 - 250 runs because of the pressure. if you have played cricket at any level then you might know how pressure might influence you when your team is 319 runs behind.

Madan I did play cricket at University level and state under 19 mind you... Then in first 15 overs it swings the same. How many wickets did we take?

Indian problem is bowling is no surprises for batsman. If we get favourable conditions for atleast 2/3 sessions we can bowl a moderate batting line up all out. Favourable here is nice cloudy weather or deteriorate wicket. We unfortunately do not have either Lee Bond or Akhtar or Murli Warne class bowlers.

When our tailenders built score in heaps clearly pitch had nothing to offfer for bowlers.

Congrats team India.
Iam upset on dravid's comments after the match. He said it is easy to comment sitting in living room. Mr.Dravid if ganguly or ponting in your place, defenietly they made the follow on option, you said bowlers tired - they bowled just for one hour and that too rp singh and kumble and khan / sreesanth haven't bowled a single ball on 4th day morning, the whether is also so good for the bowlers. so i dont understand how they become tired, if u set to play at international level - than yr words is not upto that level. its clearly shows after yr 1st innings score you decided to go for draw which england should think. so in yr books there is no place for follow on, as you cannot field or bowl 2 innings continuosly. If that is yr thought and if yr body not matching to it, its better you go take rest for ever, you cannot kill indian cricket, and you cannot comment on indian cricket lovers. all the fans reaction on yr decesion is 100% right, even the whole ricket world inlcuding vaughn himself would been surprised by yr decsion. this is the first time iam commenting against you, i always supports good cricket, really very bad decesion. we are not playing in india in summer, we are playing in england and playing with sweaters, so dont give stupid reasons. i think its time for u to step down as captain.

Finally we have won a series in England after 21 long years. This is an occasion to celebrate and savour and not to criticise the captain or the team for the decision that was taken on the 4th day. India played better cricket in the last 2 tests and they played as a team and this win is a gift for their team spirit. It is very sad to see that some people are criticising Rahul for not enforcing follow on and accusing him of being negative in his approach. But decision like this must have been taken with consent of the team and not by the captain alone.
The team must have taken such a decision to bat again because, If by a slim chance England wins(like how we did against Aussies in Kolkota) the match and squire the series ,then they have to face the wrath of the public in India. Aussies and Proteas take bold decisions because their public don't ctiticise them for that and take the result in a sportive way.But most of our people do not have that mental maturity and are waiting for a chance to pounce on our players. No doubt then the team took the safer option. So just for once just enjoy this win without criticising the team.

For England to win the match, they should have given at least a lead of 200 runs. It means they should have scored about 515 runs and stall gave India to bat for at least 50 overs. That was possible but if India let England score 515 runs in the second innings and got out within 200. If England could do that, they deserved to win. But throughout the match India ruled. Giving the follow on would have made India look like a stronger and more confident unit. And it's a matter of setting high standards for a team. Obviously, India team did not feel great about the third match. After AK hitting a century and every batsman scoring double figures, you need to have confidence in abilities of your players.

Your suggestion "So just for once just enjoy this win without criticising the team." is in good taste and directed towards making us feel better after 'that' happened. Hats off to your intentions, but dear friend, dil toot gaya :-) It will take time, bahut gehra zakhm hai!!

The follow on was not enforced because the bowlers had a long day and needed rest. The pitch was pretty flat and there was a chance that England could score 460-470 and then India would have to chase 150 on last day, they did not want to take a chance. Moreover Zaheer was carrying a thigh injury and could not have bowled without a rest, which means that had India enforced follow on they would have only 3 regular bowlers out of which one is very inconsistent. Dravid and the team did everything to retain the 1-0 lead. With a young pace bowling attack they did a good job. Who would have imagined after the 1st test that India would win? At that time if someone had told that India would draw the series we would have gladly accepted that.

You might be a stupid, how can england score 460 runs in second innings ( on day 4 they had only 80 overs ) 6 runs per over is not at all possible in the test match that too ball was swinging tremendously because of the rain. England might be all out without reaching 319 runs itself.

Congrats Indian team
by CricketLover on Aug 14, 2007 11:30 AM

Indian team has played well to win the first series in England since 1986. Initially I thought that India should have enforced the follow on but after listening to Dravid's interview, I think the decision to bat again was correct given the fact that Zaheer had a thigh muscle strain, so asking him to bowl again without rest would have been risky. (If he had to go off then Indian bowling would have been reduced to 3 bowlers). Since the pitch was good England scoring 450-460 was a possibility which meant India chasing 150 on last day. So in hindsight the decision to bat was good. For all those critics who always try to find faults with everything the team does, they should be happy that the team came back strongly after the first test at Lords where bad light helped India narrowly escape defeat. It was a good performance by the young pace bowling attack.
The areas where the team needs to improve is fielding and being more consistent in bowling, especially RP Singh who bowls at least 1-2 boundary balls every over. Sreesanth bowled well on last day, however he needs to control his aggression because when things don't go well, he tends to try lots of things and gets erratic.

Useless fellow, Try to understand the game and the criticality. Be happy of winning the series. Previously when your Ganguly was the Captain, we did nt win the series. With Dravid as captain, we could win the Series. Excellent job done by Dravid. If we were making follow-on, it could have become too much of pressure on the bowlers especially Zaheer khan. Dravid took the best decision as per the tem mates in the dressing room. Dravid did an excellent job !!!!!

Now Any body has anything to say abt Sreesanth. The guy was under tremedous pressure, and he performed .Whats the justification in dropping a young bowler who have just started his career and is in his rythym in this third test.

I also agree with many of you that he has gone lil over board ( but i stand by his agression, if pieterson can loose his concentration over a single beamer at this level, its good)what should have been doen is captain or manager having a one to one sitting . This way of punishing a youngster is ABSURD

Mr Manoj Kumar, No one is denying that Sreesanth is a good bowler but just because he is good does not mean he should not be disciplined? Players are not just dropped for bad performances but also for discipline. In the past players have been dropped for much smaller mistakes. Kapil was dropped for for playing one false stroke in 1984, another player was dropped for 1 test in 1976 for arguing with the umpire. In Sreesanth's case he not only bowled a beamer but also huge no balls (by a yard, going round the wicket) which is really trying to intimidate. There is no justification for doing these at this leve. Do you know why beamers are dangerous? They can cause really bad injuries to the batsmen as there is no time to react. Luckily Pietersen is amongst the quicker players on their feet and hence was able to avoid. Any other player would have been hit badly. Sorry it is not acceptable especially if it was done to intimidate the batsmen. It is good to see that he really improved in the 3rd test and did not do any of his antics and bowled a good spell on last day.

Bret Lee , Top Bowler...is habitual; offender of bowling beamers , check out the statistics. No body is saying a word abt it. When a young bowler , for the first time in life bowled a beamer.. all media and ppl is making hell lot of a noise. Common.. give him some space and also acknowledge his apology...IF he continues again he shld be banned. Otherwise matter shld be buried there
