Vaughan's team didnt deserve the respect Dravid showed them. They are less than half the actual might the complete English team is. If Dravid says he was scared this team would put up a total to possibly defeat India, he has no idea of The English capabilities neither of India's quality.
Poor judgement indded and worst extremely poor justification.
Vaughan's comment only reflects his relief his team wasnt defeated 2-0.
He would have effected folow on or if he didnt he would have made his team score twice as fast as India did.
There are too many errors in Dravid's style. So much so he seems pathetic.

yes if we remove those insignificant series then as captain saurav wins on foreign soil are 4 out of 21
and Rahul as captain 4 out of 15.

instead of enjoying tussle between bat and ball these guys want Saurav as captain. Many take different id's and post those hate Rahul messages which I dislike. God knows when they will start enjoying game. Since Saurav was dropped for his long bad form ,they have spoiled joy of cricket with this false prapoganda. They have spoiled their own joy as well as other cricket fans.

Hello, Mr.Ifear paceman,
We were missing you and your blind, moronic anti-Sourav, anti-bengali writings. Carry on maan.
If you are still not blind (of hate) please see the last innings of Sourav and compare it against the pathetic batting performance of Mr.Dravid (how many runs off how many balls in the last innings? May be you haven't forgotten yet!).
Start your vitriolic key board flowing man, against me, pleaaaase spare the bongs, simply because of the fact that I am not a bong. You and your stupid breed thinks that any Sourav fan has to be a bong and bong only.

Bottom line we have won series congratulations. If everybody starts playing like 20-20 then surely we would have lost squaring series 1-1.

If this urgency was shown during World Cup2007 against Bangla Desh Match by Saurav Ganguly we would have not lost that match. Dravid tried to recover from 11/3 and though Ganguly played well he could have got out and it would have been 25/4 then what? Dravid tied one end to see shine off the new ball though one too much. This much cricket you should know.

I am not bothered whether you are bong or not as long you are not from those bongsters I wrote. Any body is writing any thing, but I do not name them bongster but select few I know from past experience.

All Saurav fans are not Bongs but why every bong should be blind saurav fan ?

The Point when the fear of loosing is nil why not go for the kill
by samson lawrence on Aug 14, 2007 05:50 PM  | Hide replies

This England didnt have the capacity to score more than 450 or survive more than 1 and a half day. So India at worst would have had to score 100 odd runs in half a day.
Zaheer wouldnt have had to bowl long spells. It is at this juncture the others chip in, they have to; to prove they are worthy of their place.
India could always draw the match if the English got a good total up. That would have given India a chance to prove the Indian mettle.
Players at this level shouldnt be afraid of challenges. They are representing India where many people live under impossible conditions. Cowards and people who play safe - too safe; do not really reflect the mighty Indian spirit.
This is a lesson to all youngsters whether they play cricket or not, be brave, show your guts, face chalenges, take up challenges and make us proud of you. A brave man is always respected even in defeat.
If you dont beleive me, look back Rana Pratap, Pourus, were defeated, but we cherish their bravery. In this instant India were never going to loose if they had to bat the last innings. We would at least have seen Indian grit.
What a miss, victories are usually sweet. But this one left a bad taste that will linger for quite somme time.

read part of Dravid interview and draw conclusion to best of your cricket knowledge ability and inclination....

"There will be different opinions on what was wise and what is not wise," Dravid said.

"But as captain of the team I know my players and the dressing room pretty well, I know the workload that my bowlers have had after playing all series.

"I know people might be disappointed that we didn't enforce the follow-on and maybe if I was sitting in a living room I would have thought the same but as captain I get a pulse for what is happening and I did what I thought was right."

Vaughan defended Dravid on the decision and said he would have made the same choice.

"They were 1-0 up and wanted to make sure they won the series," Vaughan said. "I would have done the same."

rediff writers...celebrate and be indian,, not marathi, bangali, south indian etc
by Hiren Bhavsar on Aug 14, 2007 03:47 PM

everyone..just enjoy and be a part of the celebration..
a victory after 21 yrs...rain, draw, follow-on or not...its all useless talk..what goes down in history books is india won series in england..
Remember Aus beat Ind in 2004 2-1 when Chennai last day was rained out and we could have otherwise had 2-2 drawn sereis...does it matter now?..same way this whole thing wont matter later..all ppl and history will notice is a series win in eng..like last yr in WI..
Remeber if it rained at Lords..Eng was no way near a chance of winning in rest of the 2 matches..so india dominated 2-1 but technically they won 1-0..I guess it's fair result...enjoy and stop barking about individuals..
Well done TEAM INDIA

Dravidbhaiyya you have NO place in the ODI team after dropping catches, fielding with sun glasses, too tired to field again (bowlers were not tired, you were) and taking 96 balls to score 12 runs, this was worse than Gavaskar scoring 36 runs from 60 ODI overs. Yuvraj or Dhoni should captain the team and Ganguly should be made the coach NOW while he is in the team. Ganguly is the greatest for nurturing youngsters.

Dravid not enforcing the follow on reminded me of Maneckshaw not finishing off Pakistan in 1971 war and refusing to march to Karachi and Islamabad. Till today we are facing Pakistan problem because of spinelsss Maneckshaw and Indian cricket team will lose everything because of spineless Dravid. At least for ODIs Ganguly should be made captain again. Jai Ganguly, Jai Tendlya.

I am, of course, disappointed at not winning the series 2-0 after having scored 664 in the 1st innings. But Dravid has a point when he says that it is easier to be aggressive sitting in our living rooms than on the field where bowlers have to work hard to take 10 wickets on a dry pitch that still doesn't have much in it for them.

England were 369/6 on the final day. If Dravid had enforced the follow on, we might have faced a tricky target of 150 on the final day and maybe, with help from a couple of bad umpiring errors, collapsed to give England victory and a series draw. Now THAT would've been really disgusting, wouldn't it?

With the series almost in bag and 7 ODI games still to play, the main priority was to keep our fast bowlers as fit as possible. I like it when our team is aggressive but the yesterday and the day before were all about ruthlessly snuffing out any hope of England drawing the series and we should be happy that our team managed to do just that while getting close to a win.

Vaughan said after the match that he would've done the same and I have a strong feeling that even the Aussies would've done the same.

Ravishankar, your comments is like same dravid's stupid comments. i think you are very negative person like dravid. if you want to be a good leader you should be positive like ponting and whole aussies or like ganguly.
if we can take 6wickets on final, why cant we bowl out by opting followon, they are playing at internaltional level. on 4th day morning india bowled just less than 1hour and that too khan and sreesanth haven't bowled a single ball, so they both had overnight rest and on top of that the conditions was so good for fast bowlers with overcast conditions. it is defenielty a stupid reason for not opting follwon, so with his message he mean to say there is no place for follwon in this books. they are not playing in indian summer but playing in england with sweaters. so wat a stupid statement by saying "it is easy for people to comment sitting in living room" better dravid quit. if you remember aussies in there last tour to india with not this kind of score, but still they asked india to bat again. with his statement it clearly shows he is tired not the other players, so better quit or either play test or ODI, dont make harsh comments on indian cricket lovers, dravid you cannot justify your decesion my making idiotic comments to yr intelligent country men.

I completely agree with your Promod. Ravi shankar was influenced by Dravid's negative effort. What a shame, a leader without a spine.

England team scored 369 in 110 overs. if they need to score still 100 more runs, then they might took additional 40 overs, so definitely we will not get all out in remaning 35 overs if we enforced the follow on. I am damn sure England might not scored more than 350 if they were enforced follow on.. ( pressure will be too high when they are 319 runs deficit )

Promod, I hope your parents didn't spend a lot on your education. If they have, you should ask for a refund.

Zaheer had a niggle and in any case, it's not about physical exertion alone (btw, when was the last time you exerted yourself for 8 hours straight, even in fair weather?). A critical day of an international test match asks a lot of the mind too. Now if we had lost at Lord's then Dravid should've enforced the follow-on and the bowlers should've bowled to win even if they were tired or slightly injured. But the fact remains that we had a 1-0 lead. If you really want further insight, Hiren has done the mathematics for you. Though I agree that Dravid needs to be more innovative on the field, I'm afraid the follow-on decision is one thing he might have gotten right.

But I get the feeling that all this is lost on "intelligent country men" like you. "Bhains", "been", etc.

I agree with Ravishankar and i was actually hoping they make sure dont follow on and win the series..
The logic is simple..on good batting pitches..you cant continuously keep bowling for 2 days and also risk batting 4th on last day's 1 or 2 sessions when u hv the series in hands...
some call it defensive...well if u can win series with defensive move, i wud say take it..

also i dont think England would have lost even 6 wkts today unless Peterson and Collingwood got out in effort to score faster later in the day..Think of 350/4 yesterday and chasing 170 with similar 11/3 like Ind was early on day 4..
It would have been disaster...Safe option is sometimes smart move..INd is not Aus with bowlers like Mcgrath, Lee, Gillespie and Warne...India relies heavily on Kumble and Zaheer..2 bowlers cant continously bowl 2 days and take 20 wkts..they needed rest and cricketing sense says give them rest for 2 sessions or so and let england try n save the match in 4 sessions..luckily eng did...so what..ind still safely won the series...
