Greg Chappell and Indian Team
by S. Janakiraman on Nov 01, 2006 06:02 AM

I cannot understand why the media always blame the coach for a team's debacle in a match. How come Greg can be held responsible for Team India' early exit from the ICC Champion Trophy 2006? India did not click as a team, did not bat or bowl well on that particular day. There is a saying that a horse can be taken forcefully to a pond but cannot be made to drink. Greg can provide coaching, advise and ideas only but cannot go and play in the middle. It is the Team who need to play and perform. Everytime when Team India fails, the blame falls squarely on either the captain or the coach and one of them is made the scape goat for the entire issue and made to pay heavily. The Team India needs consistency - a vow to perform consistently. ODI is that day's performance -past records do not help. No coach can be a permanent for Team India if the media acts foolishly and rubbishly.

Sorry for Greg
by Vikas on Nov 01, 2006 04:31 AM

This can be the biggest nonsense that only can be expected out of Indian cricket board. What can coach do when your own cricket team so called heroes are weak and indisciplened. I really feel sorry for Greg Chappel because India can never get better coach than him. Its totally rediculous to blame the coach that India played badly due to Greg. He has been the most prefessional coach for India and had shown lot of disciplene in grooming the team. Its the onus of the Indian cricket team's mentality and temparament to play under any coach. Its not new story to be beaten against Australia. Its already started since India had lost the home series in 2004. It will take great and courageous effort from Rahul Dravid and the board to work this out. The coaches cannot give tonic to the team to start shoing results.
I am still waiting for India to win against Australia before the world cup starts. They may win against any country but if they can't beat Australia they can be promised to beaten on anyday by the world champions whether its home ground or foreign soil.

Why after the World Cup???
by Mervyn on Nov 01, 2006 03:22 AM

The destroyer of Team India Greg Chappell deserves an earlier flight back home. Why does BCCI want to keep him till the WC?Chappel has destroyed the Team India built by our own GANGULLY.Lets accept that Gangully had lost touch as a batsman before the fiasco with Chappell, but he was a great captain who motivated the youngsters and supported them whenever required. Dravid no wonder, has been and is still India's great batsman, has to prove his leadership qualities. It was a great shame the way in which a player of Gangully's stature was thrown out of the team Someone like Gangully deserved much better treatment. There were other factors that contributed to the teams success during Gangully's tenure viz, Tendulkar's form, Srinath as strike bowler and Kumble playing in both forms of the game.Add to this the three biggies Tendulkar, Gangully and Dravid batted in that order in the line-up. But this does not take credit away from Gangully.Another bitter fact is,Tendulkar the batsman is down the slide.Very soon Cricket India will have to learn to play without Tendlia.I still believe the big three:Ten,Dra and Gang need to play the coming World Cup and not to forget the underrated Anil Kumble.

And get back Saurav
by Hem on Nov 01, 2006 02:42 AM

Ok, Saurav is not fit to be in the team as a batsman, but he is still very resourceful. We should now make him a coach of Indian team. After all he is the most successful captain of Indian cricket team.

Instead SACK would have been a good choice....
by Reno on Nov 01, 2006 01:13 AM

When GC entered the team India, it was in good form and everybody' hope was He can mould technically and make it as Unbeaten side. but, He started doing other irrelevant stuff than concenterating on game. Indian Players has to feel safe in the position, then only they will start performing/concenterating. He gimmicked with the word experiment and spoiled lot of so called Heroes. Indian coaches can do lot more than him....Indeed wise decision from BCCI but then what waill be the hope of WC2007 for India??

Why can't Chappell leave early.........
by Joy on Oct 31, 2006 11:52 PM

I would have prayed to see an early exit of Chappell, much before the World Cup and watch India play properly ....with " NO POLITICS" around.

DADA who was the MAN behind guiding the team to World Cup is sitting at home and the LOSER Chappell with his experiments and politics is guzzling the hard earned money of Indians in the form of his salary.

Chappell to part ways
by Kunal Naskar on Oct 31, 2006 11:49 PM

That is fine, he wish to part away after WC 07.

Why BCCI can not depart him now, do they think we at India do not have a coach, when Cricketer like Sandip Patil, Ansuman Gaikward, Kapil Dev and many more around there?

Too Little Too late
by Chanchal Banerjee on Oct 31, 2006 11:40 PM

The board gets such a lot of money. Why not terminate his contact now and get a coach who cares. Why wait till we lose the World cup like we lost the last match.

Thats an awesome news.......................
by Bill on Oct 31, 2006 11:11 PM

This is fabulous news, great for India, greater for Indian cricket and greatest for Indian cricket fans.

Mr. Chappell should be gifted few pairs of chappals (used) in his sent-off party from BCCI and Ganguly should be the chief guest in that (he has taken him in India and he is throwing him out of India).

Could have been extra-ordinary if he can be thrown before the world cup itself.

Next Step:
Ganguly to get the captainship back
