It's a big loss for the people who dont have cable connections. DD should be more prepared in future for the matches. This issue will rise i n a big way in the comming future as the result channel owners will Increase the rate of & we have to bear it so. DD must take their bid & rights in a proper way.
For people living in other part of country except chennai, it doesnot matter much because atleast they can ask their cable operator to get connected to tensports transponders at a small price, if they are not connected already. In chennai (the only city in India), their is CAS (Conditional Access system) in force, therefore the only way to watch is to purchase the Settop box (a big investment). We would be deprived of the live coverage. Its really amazing here that there is no pressure from public to put an end to CAS, which is a total failure in India.
This is not a good news. Because Ten Sport channel does not have access to every indian. Only cable connection holder can see the matches. DD has a very large network and most of the people may enjoy the matches on this.
A normal point of view that everyone has is that DD is making huge money and Ten sports is spending lot of money for the rights, however it has to be understood that DD is a not for profit organisation and has a larger social responsibility and coverage than any other broadcaster. However these foreign Broadcasters only want to make profit which is bad or atleast they should have the courage to accept that telecasting of these matches for them is purely business and they dont have any idea of promoting the game. The people supporting Tens Sports are basically from the Urban India who only pay a monthly fee and get all the channels, the day they have to shell out money for individual channels through CAS, they will realise. As for billions of indian cricket lovers, this is going to be a hurting verdict.
