Fuad
first Kashmiri
by Fuad on Mar 01, 2006 11:07 AM  | Hide replies

Why is such a contentious issue as to whether Abid Nabi is the first Kashmiri to play for India? I am getting a feeling that the guys who seem to have taken it to heart -" first Kashmiri"- feel it is their moral duty to point out the incorrectness in the article. And of course not to mention the "political" tinge put in by one of the readers about muslim and pandits. let us feel good that he consistently bowls at 140kph and hope he plays for India, if he is good enough. as a Kashmiri, I would feel really proud.

The youngster seems to be exceptionally talented and sooner or later break into the national side. Being from J&K its something to be proud of and all the fuss about Nabi not being 1st etc is a non issue and waste of time. Please keep this lousy politics out of this and appreciate this talented lad and pray he gets into the Indian side soon.
Chappel & Dravid could well draft him in asap and groom him as one of the speedsters for the coming worldup.

What are the powers-that-be of Indian Cricket waiting for?

Take the lad in the team, and let him have a go at the Poms!

Vivek Razdan was the first Kashmiri to play for India.

Suresh Raina is also a Kashmiri.

So can we stop these comments of the first Kashmiri to play for India

You are wrong!

Factualy you are wrong! Suresh Raini is a kashmiri pandit, he has already played for India. You do not have to be Kashmiri muslim to be the first from kashmir to play for india.

Logicaly! you are right, as Nabi has played his cricket from Kashmir only while suresh raina played for UP.

Not the first Kashmiri to play for India
by Rahul Razdan on Feb 28, 2006 03:14 PM

Abid Nabi would definitely not be the first Kashmiri to play for India, if at all he does manage to play for India, unless people have already forgotten a whole community of more than 7 lacs of Kashmiri Pandits.

For your kind information, Vivek Razdan and Suresh Raina (though playing for different States in India) are Kashmiris and have already played for India.

Suresh Raina is a Kashmiri

Suresh Raina is a Kashmiri too. He is already playing for India. I do not know if he is the first one or there were some Kashmiris before him to play for the Indian cricket team. Please check your facts before writing such an article.
Or is it that rediff does not consider Kashmiri Pandits as Kashmiris anymore???

Incorrect Reporting

Interestingly rediff seemed to be aware of it and actually wrote about Suresh Raina in the same context some months ago. Of course, at that time Vivek Razdan was forgotten about - now you already forget Suresh.

Rediff should stop sports coverage- if they are going to be so shoddy.
