India looses again from winning position
by Sudhakar on Dec 31, 2006 06:15 PM

When the chips are down Indian players -old and new-are down the drain. We (Indians) have biggest star, highest run getter, big hitters, great wicket takers etc etc but never a winning team.

SRT and Waugh!
by apdxb on Dec 31, 2006 03:10 PM

If ever there was a stage were SRT could have stamped his greatness in the game is if he could have stayed to save(the least) or win (very optimistic) the 2nd test game.

The difference between greatness rather than style/exhibition is when one is under stress and chips are down...Steve Waugh always rose to the ocassion..while SRT most of the time failed...his batting is no doubt good and attractive...but Steve Waugh...his grittiness and a 'premium price' on his wicket he is much better bet than any...even a Lara or a SRT fall much behind......we Indians like to keep treasures in our cupboard...expecting always a high return....SRT is one such treasure..it is time to put him in one of the BCCi cupboards!
As Ganguly recently said...SRT has never been dropped.. will the selectors have the ....?

Disheartening
by prasad on Dec 31, 2006 02:12 PM

Why do NOT people understand and give more importance to Other Games rather than CRICKET. I presume all the players should be given the contract paid-for-the-performance. Otherwise pack all the guys back, its like a circus

Reverse batting order
by Roshan Sequeira on Dec 31, 2006 01:05 PM

In the last few matches, Indian tail has performed in batting. So, my suggestion is to send the 10th and 11th men as openers. I find this is the best and only solution. Senior batsmen will be motivated by the batting of tailenders.

What say guys??? Bring back Irfan as a batsman... we need one. It is high time the team management considers Irfan as a average batsman. In any case our senior and experienced batsmen are performing poorly.

umpiring and dropped chances
by bsd lover on Dec 31, 2006 09:33 AM

What about the shocking umpiring. Dravid was clearly not out in the first innings. Boucher was clearly out in the first innings. Then there was saching grassing of Prince's chance in the first innings.

What I dont understand is the insistence of the middle order in trying to "graft" an innings when it is clearly in contradiction to their natural tendencies. I mean Tendulkar playing 63 of 173 delieveries.. ??? Laxman 50 off 277 ???? And this happens because the openers who should be doing a grafting job are clearly not up to the task.

Once the batting turns to a mindset this negative, it allows the bowlers to settle into the same line and length and put immeasurable pressure. Its playing right into the hands of the opposition game plan.

My main frustration is that no one and I mean NO ONE in the batting line up has shown the basic technique to bat. The basics of footwork and the ability to play the cut and the pull are just not there.

Ah well. At least the bowlers are bowling better than I have seen for a long time.

Oh my God this Biased IDI*T is back again,Rediff is such a good website that over the years this guy was one Black spot in their column section, never one to let Sachin down and never one to leave some players like Kapil alone every time they open their mouth,so typical stupidity in his columns like Dr Arvind pointed out.
Mr Prem Every time a foreign player send out statements like your fav Sachin did at the start of the series that Indian would be victorious you make it a point to tell them about their foot in their mouth, why are you quiet now that India lost all ODI matches and the Test Match, are you waiting till they loose the test series to ignore Sachins remark?
This guy has been proven biased know it all been there type of writer.I dont know why he is back again,Rediff please get rid of this Prem Panicker please

India's woes of its own making
by Ram on Dec 31, 2006 05:25 AM

First of all I would like to ask the Indian think tank like any crazy indian cricket fan why Gambir was not selected in first place. He was showing top form with his bat in tour match and Dravid still believes Jaffer can do it??. India has lost so many matches sticking to people who has been proven to be good a decade ago. Come on think why Australia is a champion team, because they play eleven who will win matches unlike India who impresses captians or infact the current coach. Adding another woe is Shewag, I have been a big fan of him but I'm not convinced he is playing his potential.I would say at this point show him the door!!.

Indian cricket
by NSB on Dec 31, 2006 04:19 AM

Come on guys just a few days we were praising them to the skies and now this. We are becoming too familiar with our reactions. We all know that the solution to the problem is long term and we Indians, as a habit, never have the long term objective. (i think it is in our history). We were just plain lucky to have extraordinarily talented batsman in Sachin, Dravid and to some extent Laxman and Sourav. They are not a product of Indian cricket. They just happened to play together. Imagine Indian cricket 2 yrs from now and it will be worse than the worst of West Indies cricket. So save your harsh censure, you need a lot more later.

Thanks Indian cricket team
by simran on Dec 31, 2006 01:40 AM

First of all, I would like to thanks Indian cricket team for approving my decision once again to step backwards for watching Cricket(especially Indian cricket matches).I prefer to watch australian cricket, because that team played with MEN,not chokers.
Secondly, i would like to thanks Indian Cricket team for this performance, as they are trying their best to help normal public to understand that their are other sports except cricket in country and its the right time now to concentrate on them.
